I have taken 225mg of this drug 3 times a day for 4 years. It has worked very well and although expensive is still much cheaper than Rythmol. The only side effect I noticed was constipation.

after 18 months on amiodarone for Long QT I was was changed to Propfenone by a new cardio. He says 18mnths is too long on amio but has prescribed only one 150mg propfeno a day. I'm 80. I have about five or six seriously rotten days a month. Nausea, dizzy, unbalanced, fatigued, confused Any advice? Oldie

Propafenone has been a game changer for me. I'm a 53 yr old male who was having 2-3 episodes a week and now have been afib-free for ten months. No side effects except maybe a little sleepy at times (not much). I'm taking 150mg 3x daily.

Taking propafenone 150mg tablets 3 times a day now for two weeks. Starting about two hours after each dose and then persisting for another two to three hours I experience: - Dizzyness, confusion - stomach problems, metalic taste (have to take medication with food) - shortness of breath, gasping - extreme tiredness - sleeping problems (last dose at bedtime) These symtoms are debilitating as I am affected for 6 to 9 hours daily during which time I have difficulty performing normal activities. Other effects include foot swelling, itching of scalp, eye floaters/spots and minor dry mouth. I assume that the medication is keeping my heart in sync. Hope that my Dr. perscribes an alternative medication. This is not working for me.Read More Read Less

I am 53 and started heart problems at 47. I had an ICD implanted in 2007 because of HCM and VTACH. I have been taking this med for about 1 month, 2x a day, 325mg. I am also a diabetic, type II, and have notice difficulty keeping my blood sugar levels in check. This was not a problem before I started on tis medication. I have noticed that constipation is a huge downside to the drug. Going to see if there is a different drug available that does not effect my blood sugar.

The side effects I have had are minor compared to heart issues BUT; I have had nodding off spells, bitter taste and bloating. About 30 minutes after taking I can hardly hold my eyes open. About an hour later it subsides. The bloating and constipation started after starting this drug and the bitter metal taste is cured with spearmint gum.

after cardioversion in the hospital, I returned to normal right away. I am so sick with nausea, metal taste in my mouth, and everything has an awful taste. I have to deal with the drug because it works? Let's hope not. I don't wish these side effects on anyone. I had a mechanical mitral valve replacement 5 yrs ago, at which time put me into a-fib. I was on pacerone then. I don't remember feeling this way then.

Works great when taken at specific intervals. I am 52 year old male and take 300mg 3 X daily most of the time. AFib comes around when I miss one or two over a 2 or 3 day period. Usually subsides within 1/2 hour after taking pill.

I have taken this for almost 4 years. It took a while before I really felt good, but it has done the job for the better part of 3.5 years. I have to take this and rythmol, which ends up being a little expensive, but what choice do I have?

I had been taking Amiodarone after being Electro-Converted. But, didn't like how I felt on the drug. I asked my doctor about Propafenone and started on that. No problems so far.

Went into afib first time in Dec. Pretty scary. Went to ER, they gave me propafenone, and converted in 3-4 hr. Happened again recently but self converted. I now carry propafenone just in case.

I have been taking this drug for a month and a half now and it has done a great job of slowing the afib down. The dosage is a bit awkward so my docter prescribed the Rythmol so I checked how much that cost and decided I could live with the generic. No apprent side effects [I used to take amiorodorone] so over all its been a pleasant surprise, first time in four years I"m feeling normal

Took this medicine for 12 years after having A-Fib twice 3 months apart. I had A-Fib this year so I chose to have & ablation. Cardioverted the first time & Propafenone fixed the second time & amiodorone this last time. I was on this medicine so long I forgot the side affects. I started out at 225mg 3 times a day for about 9 years & droped to 225mg twice a day the last 3 years.

I was changed to Propa after 14 months on amiodarone when a thyroid test showed TSH 38. A beginnng dose of 150 once/day still allowed heart skips. A dose of 150 twice day showed no heart skips in six months. I read that propa should not be taken if bundle branch block is present. I have RBBB and L anterior fascicular demiblock. So far there has been no adverse effect.
