Just started this medication this week for a current sinus/bronchial infection. Used it before with great results! Just a note: eat 2 yogurts a day while on ANY antibiotic!! one in am-one in pm. Antibioics kill ALL bacteria including the 'good' bacteria that lives in the intestines/stomach. This leads to diarrhea, cramping, etc. Choose yogurt with 'live bacteria cultures' and eat 2 x a day until ...

i took this medication before finding out i was pregnant with my son in 1998. he was born with congenital heart disease, has had 3 open heart surgeries, is autistic, has a seizure disorder and many other health issues. DO NOT take this medication if you think you might be pregnant!

Had 2 endoscopic sinus surgeries and still get serious infections due to allergies etc. This drug did clear the infection quickley but as everyone says there are side effects. HINT: take some probiotics now so popular! Stopped my diareha and cramps in 2 days

I was prescribed 2 500MG tablets daily for 7 days for pneumonia. It made me feel SO SICK, extremely nauseated, shaky, weak, gave me awful drug induced nightmares that I can never forget, horrible moodiness, depression, crying, and an awful taste in my mouth I couldn't get rid of. I could not function at all on this drug. I have to go back to work tomorrow so I've decided to stop the course early. I have 2 left, but I can't handle it anymore. Will call my doctor tomorrow to tell her. Hoping she will be in.Read More Read Less

I got a good book (also a big book) and have used the sleepless nights to benefit. The diarrhea has been quite cleansing and the bad taste is strongest at night. So I munch a lot while reading. Effective from the first day for solving a long term sinus infection.

This is the first antibiotic I've taken that hasn't caused diarrhea, but I'd rather have that than the incessent bitter taste (worst at night and in the morning) and the insomnia. I'm halfway through the 10-day dose, so I will probably just finish it but will never take this drug again.

Prescribed by dr because of repeated bouts of bronchitis & sinusitis. Z-pack was not effective for me. Was told to take 500mg twice a day. Like most of the othe reviewers, this caused severe nausea, throbbing headaches, and terrible metallic taste in my mouth. After 3 days of of that I decided that the bronchitis was preferable. Not surprisingly, chest pain & congestion returned. I am now trying 250 mg twice a day. Not experiencing the nasty side effects, hopefully that will still treat the bronchitis. I paid a small fortune for these pills - hated to throw them out so I'm trying to use them in a way that I can tolerate. For those having trouble sleeping, I've had great results with melatonin supplements. Read More Read Less

This is a terrible drug. I started getting it in liquid form in the hospital and within a day my sense of taste and smell were shot. After I got home it was prescribed for 10 more days and after the first day I had to stop it. The terrible metal taste and long lasting after effects of swallowing this stuff lingered and it was quite obvious this drug was doing extensive damage to me. It has been over two weeks since I stopped it, and my sense of taste and smell have not returned. This is serious, and this drug should be taken off the market. It is very dangerous. I've taken this medication about 3 times in my life and each time it gave me a yeast infection. So I told my doctor to give me something else, because even though my cough went away, I had a yeast infection. And they suck.

I am on day 2 of this medication as prescribed to bronchitis. The metallic taste is pretty bad. I have yet to notice a significant change in my symptoms. My cough is wetter sounding and maybe that is what is supposed to happen. But, I still have the gurgling sound in my breathing. I am on 1000mg twice daily for 5 days, then 500mg for 5 days. I have spent 5 days sick and I'm hoping this medication works soon.

I've had chronic sinus issues for years that other antibiotics have failed to treat. So far this has been the best at kicking it fast. The horrible metallic taste that everyone else has had I've had as well but I've had it with every powerful antibiotic I've ever taken. To me it just tastes like antibiotic. I honestly think its caused by it being so powerful. I've had the diarrhea and stomach cramp problem twice out of the 7 times I've taken it, but within a day the diarrhea was over (or a few hours the last time once I started eating yogurt, which really helped.) I do have weird dreams/hard time sleeping during the pills, which is only worse because I'm an insomniac. Trying to take sleeping pills after just makes it 10x worse. Overall the day or two of being down is overshadowed by the fact in two days I can breathe out of my nose again and within a week I'm all better. I definitely recommend taking on a Friday and having the weekend to get used to it and see how you react! Read More Read Less

This is the worst antibiotic i have ever taken. Woke up the morning after the first dose with loose stools and cramping. worst side effect was the taste in my mouth, tasted like bile and could not get rid of it. I quit it after the first dose. Never again!! I would rather have the Sinus infection!

Had to stop taking this med. Trouble breathing, depressed, lethargic, achey, headache, stomach cramps and the worst taste in my mouth ever. Will deal with the sinus infection. Would never recommend this med to anyone.

I'm taking Biaxin XL 1000mg 1xday with a meal and took my second dose earlier today. I have been very scared to take this because of all the side effects. I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and this is like asking for a major flare up! anyways since taking this med I have been extremely sleepy, and my body feels weak and achy with the sweats every so often! I have been getting really strong hunger pains making me want to eat, even with this horrible taste in my mouth! my mouth is dry and pasty! I feel dizzy at times and like I will blackout but haven't. And all I keep thinking about is.. WHEN WILL THE STOMACH CRAMPS BEGIN with DIARRHEA! it's only day 2 so hoping it doesn't at all! Read More Read Less

Well, this drug definitely works, but is very strong. I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs, so when I get a sinus infection I do not have too many options. I really hate taking this drug, but it does make you feel better. I had upset stomach, cramping, nausea, and bitter taste in mouth. All very common side effects. Had weird dreams a few nights. Found out that it helps taking the pills with a scoop of peanut butter to hide the taste. I have to eat pretty much all day so my stomach does not hurt. I also have been eating a ton of yogurt to try and help. The yuckiest side effect of all is the yeast infection that follows (if you are prone to them with antibiotics). Just be prepared for the side effects.Read More Read Less
