I had 2 spinal operations and was using morphine, roxicet and even harsher drugs which didn't help to ease the pain. I had a Medtronic pump inserted and even though there was some relief it was minimal. When my doctor told me about Prialt I jumped at the prospect of not having pain running down my legs and interferring with my ability to walk. Since I've had the pump (Prialt as the primary & fe...

Worst life changing drug ever taken!! Started by hearing voices from my computer for 3 days which turned into my bones feeling like they were literally on fire. Then could play music in my head and slow it down reverse it and knew every lyric to songs I didn't know before. I had my own disc player in my head anytime I got around electronics. Then started the demonic voice of killing myself because of all I was experiencing. Have never been suicidal in my life but almost took my life because of this drug! After 3 trips to the E.R. and a second trip to the pain center I finally convinced my Doctor it was the Prialt.Had the medicine removed and took about three days for the effects to wear off. Sad thing is now I have lost strength in my hands and front of my thighs possibly from mini strokes I was having when I thought I was dying from heart attacks from all the burning and pain. It's been 8 months ago and I am still mentally traumatized from the incidents. PLEASE run if this drug is mentioned as an option for pain control.Read More Read Less

Prialt did work for pain relief although it did create a new pain problem; burning pain in my feet and legs. I was able to sleep through the night, but the side effects were horrible and I had to get off of it. I had visual hallucinations, I heard music and talking that seemed to come from the air conditioner when it was running, I experienced episodes where I didn't know where I was and even thought that neighbors were spying on me but the final straw were the panic attacks. Xanax worked only a short while before the panic was back and worse than before. I became too fearful to drive. I couldn't bear hearing anything negative as it exacerbated the panic attacks. I consider it a bad drug. I was started at a very low dose and increases were only at 10% per week, but the psychiatric side effects were terrible! I knew the hallucinations were not real but no knowing where you are in a place I've lived for 43 years is very scary. From what I understand, of the 10 patients my home health nurse had who were on Prialt in 2015 as I was, all have been taken off for the same reasons that I was. The panic attacks stopped within 3-4 days and I was back to my normal self in less than 2 weeks. I remember the day I realized that all of that mess was gone and I was grateful to be back to myself. The test done to determine the effectiveness of this drug isn't long enough to determine what side effects you will have and passing the psychiatric evaluation required before getting the pain pump and starting Prialt was not a valid predictor of whether or not the side effects would be experienced or not. I think it's a bad drug.Read More Read Less

I have so many side affects, my balance is off, there are times when I can't sleep and times when I cant wake. Scales are all over my thighs, my skin is horribly dry, I cry all the time, and my temper is short. My dosage is set at 1.2, on my last refill they accidentally set it at 12.0. I barely made it home when suddenly I couldnt walk, stand or sit up. I threw up every time I raised my head. It needed to be turned off but the Medtronics Rep. Who handles my unit was 2 hours away. It took the paramedics 35 minutes to decide if I needed to go to the ER even after talking to my doctor, they even made me walk from my den to the ambulance, throwing up like crazy. They waited an additional 10 minutes before left my house. When I arrived a nurse asked what was delay and he sort of shrugged his shoulder, dhe told them to take me to the observation room as we have to watch vitals and make sure she doesnt sleep. He told he didn't understand what was wrong with me.She told him my doctor gave me a lethal dose of medicine in my pain pump and we have no way of turning it off. The medtronics Rep. Is still an hour away. She wont last that long. Once thst hapoened the paramedic attitude changed completely. Read More Read Less

I have facial nerve damage after surgery. Have been on a ridiculous amount of narcotics for 3 years. Tried lots of things. Started on Prialt mid-August and had titrated up slowly. After last titration, I started having a burning sensation all over my upper body. I thought it was hot flashes/menopause. Very dry mouth

Prialt put in my husband's pain pump. After 11 weeks and no pain relief at all, side effects were bad, hallucinations, memory loss, shortness of breath, hearing voices, etc. Told nurse to stop medicine, they said had to reduce slowly, but never got the chance as he died from respiratory failure. Please read all you can before taking this drug.

I have been on med for 18 months. I have had about all side affects mentioned. I currently have short term memory problems and have trouble focusing. Pain has been reduced approx. 50%. Lost most of my sense of smell. Worth it? I don't know.

I had an external pain pump put in 7 days ago. They put Prialt in the pump and I absolutely hate it. It has given weird feeling and has done nothing for the pain. I itch all the time, can't remember things, have dizziness when I try to walk and my whole world seems like a blur. I have been back once to have pump turned up and I go again Tue. to have it turned up again before getting it out on Fri. I can't wait. This medicine has made me so sick and tired all the time I can't take it anymore. I also suffer from depression and this has made it so much worse. All I do is lay on the couch. I feel I have no life. Are other people having problems with this medication? The nausea has finally subsided but only because I use phenergan. I am to get the internal pain pump in less than a month but if this is the medication they are going to put into it, I am not having it done. This medication is horrible. I have never felt like this before on medicine. Just went off of MS Contin and tho it did not relieve the pain very well it did not make me feel like this. When I told the Dr. last week about the side affects and how I felt I don't think they believed me. I feel hopeless. Anybody else feel this way on the medicine?Read More Read Less

Horrible!!!!! Had all of the above side effects and then some. I also memory lost. I was not told ahead of my treatment of any of the possible side effects. I first lost my speech. I could not operated the remote or telephone. I could not read because I didn't recognize the words. Other symptoms include not being able to sleep for 3 nights and pacing the floor in pain. I forgot who my husband was and that grandmother is dead and has been for fifteen years. I wanted to kill myself. I was agitated and irritable. I cried the entire time I was on this medication.yRead More Read Less

I have been using Prialt for 9 months in my pump for epigastric pain due to gastroparesis. I had the pump dosage increase every week by .1 mcg, and at 2.1mcg I am no longer needing any break thru pain medication and have very little pain at all. This has been the best drug I've taken for the pain. I recommend you go through a test first to see if it will work before you have it put into your pump!

I am a 38 yr old woman who had has a Medtronic pain pump for 2 yrs and am documenting for other's help what I am going through from a recent perspective of how Prialt is helping me. As a background, I have had over many surgeries and procedures including fusions on my lumbar, cervical and thoracic spine over the past 4 years due to severe degenerative disc disease. I have lost 2" of height and have tried all of the things others have like constant epidurals,18 months of physical therapy, massage, accupuncture, chiropractic care, TENS Unit, narcotic pain meds such as Dilaudid, Norco, Percocet, Oxycontin, Vicodin, (and others) and finally-pump trials with Morphine and Dilaudid before settling on Prialt (before I was going to be making a jump to Fentanyl.) When my Pain Management Doctor told me that he was having some success with another female patient that was having the same problems I had been having adjusting to other medications in my pump, I was thrilled to make the jump to Prialt. I have a wonderful relationship with him and he was very forthcoming about some of the issues others have reported. After doing some research, I decided to give it a try, as IHave had extreme trouble with Morphine (Severe Migrane for 9 months, constant nausea and vomiting 3 times a day and inability to get out of bed but INCREDIBLE pain relief!) And with Dilaudid, we got it up to 90% capacity and I felt as if it worked as well as 5 adjustments as Morphine did. Very limited relief. I have had Prialt for 2 weeks and have the following side affects: I feel as if I have the WORST hangover EVER. I can't lift my head without feeling it spin. I cannot walk in a straight line. Reading or watching a movie is impossible due to vision changes. My teeth hurt and are bleeding while flossing (I have gorgeous teeth). I have been having been having sweats then chills. I have memory loss of words when speaking. I hope it subsides. I am getting it adjusted in 4 days....Another review will follow. Read More Read Less

I had my pump implanted 6 weeks ago and so far am only able to tolerate 1.2 mcg. I had every side effect listed including the sensation that my skin is burning, electric shock sensations, memory loss, and an overall increase in my pain. This is by far, the worst medication I have ever used. My doctor is putting me on IT morphine and I can't wait! This medication has been awful. I had to go in 3 times to have the dosage lowered. I wish that it would have worked for me as I am tired of the narcotics but I'm only 25 so I can't afford to have side effects like this. Read More Read Less
