In the past I have used Ambien 5mg and when my tolerance went up, 10mg. I used the 10mg dose for several years in college and afterward with great success. After a brief period with no sleep medications I was prescribed Ambien CR 12.5mg. This medicine works great, IF you follow your doctors instructions. Takind it on an empty stomach works best, and you must take it literally right before bed. ...

It wasn't working so my dosage increased but so did the side effects. I drove to a store, came home and tried to drive over a curb and fell on my nightstand. I have no memory of this but a ding on my car and massive bruses on my leg, arm and eye. I thought it was great for the first 2 years, but after this and charging over 500 on my credit card, I knew I had to go off it. Big withdrawal.

Ambien CR 12.5 worked for me for 2 years but with 1 mg of lorazapem an hour before to wind me down (generic of Ambien - zolpidem did not help at all). After two years, I am waking up several times in the night and having trouble going back to sleep. I am fortunate when I get 6 hours of sleep. This once gave me 8-9, leaving me feeling rested. Now, I am tired all of the time.

My doctor prescribed 12.5MG Ambien CR for a sleep study. It had very little effect. I took it at 10:30PM and didn't fall asleep until 2:00AM. I still only got 3.5 hours of sleep. That's not the worst part. The entire following day my heart rate skyrocketed to 130BPM, even when I sat down it was around 105MPB. Insane diarrhea, I literally went 5 times. Nausea, felt like I was going to vomit at any moment. Dizziness and a "out of this world" type feeling. I felt like I was in a movie. I would not recommend taking this drug due to it being ineffective and with horrible side effectsRead More Read Less

This medication had horrible side effects! I was sleep eating and carrying on conversations with no knowledge of what I was doing. I highly do NOT recommend this sleep aide.

It's 5:20AM & I'm still awake. I had been on Ambien CR 12.5 mg for about two years (was on something else previous to that for many years, >10 ) and the recommendation came out saying women should only get half the dosage which went into immediate effect. I didn't notice the difference for about a week but since then sleep is elusive to me. I also have been diagnosed in the past year w/sleep apnea which probably started in w/my severe insomnia in Jan. 2007 & that produced a weight gain of 65 pounds in less than a year. I've had problems w/sleep for 12 years but in 2007 went off the scales. I am not happy w/it now but some sleep is better than staying awake for up to 40 hours (several times before CPAP started) and CPAP gear is too heavy to keep on. I am waiting to see if they can Rx the nasal plugs for the apparatus vs the nasal (small) piece I wear now w/o much effect.Read More Read Less

I took ONE Ambien and woke the next morning to find I had a hole burned in my bedspread the size of a dinner plate. With NO memory of doing it, I must have gotten up and walked 20 ft. to my bathroom-and back and lit a cigarette, took it back to bed with me (I never smoked in bed before) and fell back asleep with it still lit. I am lucky to be alive. I flushed the remaining 30 Ambien's down the toilet. And I had no memory of ANY of this.

This stuff has been a godsend for me. I go to sleep quickly, wake up refreshed and ready to face the day. I have not had the side effects that others have mentioned. I hope this is always available and the FDA doesn't ruin it for the people it truly works for.

I've been on this since I was 17 and I am now 24. The first year, before I was familiar with the side effects, I would sleep walk, talk, eat, cook, even drive. This drug should be taken right before you go to bed because you won't even notice when your brain slips away from you and does the sorts of things you might do while asleep dreaming. When it says only take this med before bed, make sure you are IN YOUR BED when you take it and dont get up and wash dishes, do laundry; trust me, you will end up doing pilates while eating freshly baked brownies! I have severe insomnia and this is the only thing that has helped me get a good nights' rest so the strange date-rape effect it had on me was just something I learned to recognize and put my head down on the pillow. I have been on Ambien CR 12.5 mg for almost a year. I am able to sleep but I sleep-EAT and have conversations that I don't remember. I have researched and found that these side effects are common if you don't go straight to bed after taking the med. I guess memory loss worries me the most but I'm afraid I won't sleep if I go off this medication.

I have been taking Ambien for over 6 months and have experienced SEVERE memory loss. I will have a conversation on one day and not remember it the next. This is not a isolated incident either. But it works great for sleeping.

I took this before going on a plane to Spain, but found it just made me woozy and not so much knock me out. I wanted to be knocked out since I have a fear of flying.

I have taken Ambien CR (Zolpidem)12.5 mg for about two years now. I can't go to sleep or stay asleep very long, so when I found this it was a blessing, it is so wonderful to get an unerupted nights sleep, usually 6 to 8 hours. The bonus is no side effects. Other sleep enhancers would leave me feeling horrible the next morning, with Ambien, I can wake and feel good. My only worry was long time use, my doctor doesn't seem concerned as long as it's working for me, which it is. It was good to read that others have used it long term as well. Here's to a good nights sleep~Read More Read Less
