I have recurrent sinus infections/problems, and my ENT recommended this drug for me. It breaks up phlegm, clears my sinuses, and helps me to breathe more freely through my nose. I highly recommend it.

This medicine has caused me alot of grief. I highly suggest to read all of the reviews and all of the information on this product before taking it. I failed to do that and I blacked out while driving and wrecked my car. You always hear how good Mucinex is but I can promise you that I will never take it again. I have had a chest x-ray, cat scan and lots of blood work and everything was good. ...

Works great! I have been battling virus, colds, and bronchitis on and off for the the past 2 months. Thank God that is over with the help of antibiotics and codeine laced cough syrup. When I woke up 3 days ago with sinus pressure, sore throat and runny nose I wa so discouraged. The doctor said no more antibiotics for you - just try Mucinex D and Afrin nose spray. I am feeling much better after 2 days except I have been woken up 3 nights in a row energized at 2am! No sleep is not good, but well worth it because I feel so much better ;0)Read More Read Less

My doctor recommended that I take Mucinex D with my Ammoxicillan for an upper respiratory infection. I have never taken it before and didn't think I'd be able to take it. I had tried Claritin D when I was a teenager and it made me insanely shakey. I was surprised at how fast this worked for me and how much energy I had. I felt almost instantly better and cleaned my whole house...without the jitters. I also have no appetite. It's worked much better than I ever imagined. However I have heard from friends that it has some nasty side effects...one had really high blood pressure with it. For me, it is a new miracle drug that I will turn to next time I have a sinus infection or upper respiratory problems.Read More Read Less

Takes a few days to accumulate, but it works for me just fine. One dose every 12 hours is easier than every 6 or 8. Other counter meds take two to three weeks to clear me out. Rarely, I get a fever for a couple hours, but it clears me out in a week or less. I dislike antibiotics, so this stuff works great for me.

The pharmacist at CVS recommended I try Mucinex D after I was diagnosed with a viral sinus bug and it was discovered that I had a lot of fluid in both ears. The Mucinex worked very well as far as relieving my severe congestion, but please use caution if you have an anxiety disorder like I do or have ever had a problem with pseudoephedrine. I took the drug around 7:00 in the evening and went to sleep just after 9:00. At 1:00 in the morning I jolted awake having a panic attack, which has never happened to me before. I was covered in a cold sweat, my heart was pounding like crazy, and I couldn't catch my breath. I was finally able to fall back asleep a few hours later, but it is now 9:30 the following morning and I am still feeling extremely edgy and anxious. I realize that this is a rare reaction, but I advise anyone who has ever had problems with anxiety to explore other options before using Mucinex or any other drug containing pseudoephedrine.Read More Read Less

I had a horrible cold, went to the doctor and she recommended I take Mucinex D. I took 2 tablets as directed by my doctor as well as what it said on the box and within a few hours, I had a terrible headache, a fever and felt really out of it. I would say if you are going to take it, make sure and drink lots of water and definitely only take one pill, not the recommended dosage of two.

I had nose, chest congestion. Can feel pressure in head from nose congestion. I Started taking it for the first time today at 4pm. took 2 of the regular strength, as directed. It worked fast, drained a lot from nose.Coughed more but didn't seem to help with chest congestion. 4 hrs later, nose is back to being congested and chest is still congested. I did NOT experience any of the side effects like sleeplessness//nervousness/leg cramp, etc. Overall, just ok with product, helped only for 4 hrs. Read More Read Less

I have had some inner ear fluid buildup without an ear infection. My symptoms were a congested chest and nose with mild ear pain/discomfort. I took the Mucinex D maximum strength and within an hour I was able to blow my nose and cough up mucous. Within 2 days my ears were feeling better an after 4-5 days I am completely cleared up. I have to agree it (D) is a daytime medicine for most people as the psuedoepdrine does cause excitability and sleeplessness. I took the Mucinex D in the morning and the the Mucinex DM at night. You can also take Tylenol PM, or Advil PM or Excedrin PM with the D if you want at night without any interactions. I also used a Saline nose spray a few times a day to help moisten the nasal passages once I was able to blow my nose. Read More Read Less

Serious, cronic sinus infections led my doctor to suggest MucinexD several years ago. It has been amazing. I take it only when needed, if unable to breath through my nose while trying to sleep, and only one tablet at a time. I don't take the time to smell or taste the tablet, I just quickly swallow it, along with a small glass of water. It clears my head within 1/2 hour, so I can get back to sleep. I have never taken it immediately before going to bed.

Having spent the majority of my adult life on powerful prescription allergy medications, the odor and taste of Mucinex D aren't a major issue for me. The drug works fast, myself and my mother have both seen results within an hour, with decreased sinus congestion, and more over the ability to breath though the nose. However I've taken serious issue with the dehydrating effects of the medication. I've always worked at jobs with high heat, humidity, and manual labor so I've gotten pretty good at staying hydrated; however I was stunned by how quickly one can become dehydrated while using the drug. In terms of douses, the 18 tablet box translates into 4 1/2 days of treatment (the 36 tablet box is 9 days treatment). The low amount of douses makes this drug alarmingly expensive, although it probably all balances out for me now that I don't have to drive around three towns paying co-pays and filling-fees, for pills and a nasal spray. Though the drug clears up symptoms it is going to cause insomnia if taken late in the day, however when taken between 6 and 8 I usually don't have difficulty sleeping between 9 and 11, so give yourself at least a three hour gap before going to bed.Read More Read Less

I had been sick for 11 days... 7 days of the commom cold, and 4 days with a sinus infection. On the fourth day of my sinus infection, I went back to my doctor and she suggested Mucinex D. I took the pill at 7:30pm (with lots of water) and within an hour I felt so much better. At this point, this is the only medicine that has worked for me - even the antibiotic Levaquin. I was in constant pain with my sinus infection and Mucinex cleared me up within a few hours. *Oh, but I'm not completely satisfied - I would not recommend taking this at night. I had trouble sleeping. However, I'd rather "toss & turn all night and feel GREAT" instead of "crying myself to sleep at night due to the pain."Read More Read Less

This drug kept me awake ALL NIGHT. I took two pills at 7:00 pm and didn't sleep at all. I will only take during the day. It also made me nauseated. It did clear up the congestion in my head but wasn't worth missing a whole night's sleep.

As an everyday marijuana smoker, I never realized that I had some congestion that didn't cause any coughing or discomfort when awake but when asleep affected how well I slept. While Mucinex D is only a temporary relief of the congestion it does seem to clear everything up fairly quickly and I get THE BEST night sleep if I take it before bed, the suggested dose is 2 pills for an adult, I am 21 and I take 1 and it does the trick.

Over the past two seasons, I have used this product for three different chest colds and it has done absolutely nothing more than leave a bitter taste in my mouth for hours. Highly overpiced and completely over-rated. Is useless as an expectorant - simple cough syrups work much better. Company should can the childlike cartoon advertising and present some adult facts about this questionable product. Extremely disappointing.

This is a wonderful drug to relieve nasal congestion, but the taste I have had in my mouth & nose is hard to deal with. I feel like I have ate a large onion. I am also having trouble sleeping as it is 12:00Am & I am wide awake. I gave this drug to my son & asked him if he had a bad taste in his mouth, he said no & has been asleep for over an hour now. I will take Mucinex D again, but only in the early morning.
