Tried Niaspan and had terrible flushing side effects. This seems to work better for me and no side effects. I also recommend Flax Plus cereal by Nature's Path. Each servings contains 500 mg of Omega 3 and it tastes good. This along with my medication have my lipid profile where it needs to be.

I was on this medication less than a week and had severe reactions to this. Eye twitching, muscle spasms, constiptation, nausea, bloating and other GI issues.. This drug did everything but it was it was not supposed to be doing. I do not recommend this drug at all! My doctor now has me on an over the counter ORGANIC VEGAN Omega 3, EPA/DHA supplement and its doing amazing!!!! No after burping, fish effects! My body loves this more! This is the worst drug out there.

I've been taking Gemfibrozil for years at my doctor's suggestion to reduce mildly high Triglyceride levels (175 -263 mg/dl). It never changed until I went on an intermittent fasting diet, cut down on the carbs, and lost 15 lbs. This dropped my Triglyceride level to 116. I'll be dropping the Gemfibrozil and won't miss its side effects (dry cough, dizziness)

Like 95% of the drugs on the market; this one too is absolute garbage. Headaches, dizziness, nausea. Threw the whole bottle right in the trash on day one. How do these drugs companies get approval to sell these drugs? If it only helps one in 100 people without serious side affects what's the point?

Been taking for 3 years. Dropped Triglyceride from 1200 to 250's when taken consistently. Difficult to remember to take (30 min before morn/eve meals)and causes mucous buildup in throat.

I started taking two pills 600 mg of Gemfibrozil per day on 6-30-17 and stopped as of 9-6-17 due to intense pain in both shoulders and neck. The next day I felt a big difference as most of the pain subsided 75%. Also I had no motivation to do anything. I felt sluggish and tired all the time. Now that I stopped this medication I will start eating oatmeal and whole grain cereals to get my cholesterol down. My cholesterol levels are in the 300's. I will never restart this medication!

In two months time, my Triglycerides dropped from over 1,100 to 242. My cholesterol level dropped from 380 to 198. However, at the beginning of this two-month period, I also became a teetotaler, which I am sure contributed to the dramatic drop in these numbers. No side effects.

After 6 months the numbers have not been that great and now I'm having pain in my shoulder, knees and achilles tendon. These are the same symptoms I experienced when taking a statin. I'm planning to stop this drug for a while to see if these symptoms disappear.

Reason for taking, to reduce Cholesterol & Trig., since circa 1985. Did not know cough was a side-effect. July 2006, diagnosed that the cough & bronch & wheezing were side effects to an ace inhibitor. Doctor discontinued & replaced b/p med with non-ace inhibitor. A long journey of pulmonolgists -ENT-allergy testing. Harsh coughing, day & nite. Two pulmonolagists ruled out Asthma; however 2013 diagnosis is "narrowing of upper airways(treated with Singular). Sept 15-18, 2015, hospitalized for bronchospasm. Chronic Bronchitis diagnosis, added to the 'narrowing of UPPER airways". My current doctor (since 2011) has been working diligently to 'find cause of the on-going chronic cough'(reason for the Specialists' consults. Exams following the 9/2015 hospitalization & based on cholestrol & Trig improvements; removed Gemfib., still taking Welchol (unable to use statins (as I had an elevated liver function, with Mevacor) that took 14 years to return to normal range. I'm beginning to wonder about the Lopid-Gemfib) (had taken Lopid and the generic), as to it being a contributing factor to the wheezing, chronic cough, episodes of Bronchitis. I had recently thought about a support group. My husband & doctor understands; but if a person has never experienced 'coughing day and night for 9 years or more; there is no way, to understand. It affects 'social life'. At the local Y and various places, someone will ask "Are you O.K.? Do want water? Do you want a cough drop (which seem to make the cough worse). The older I get; the exhaustion from coughing & hoarseness (since Sept. 2015) is very difficult and tiring. Thank you for allowing me to share comments. Read More Read Less

I'm taking/was taking this for high triglycerides. However, I have no set schedule so ended up taking pills in a hit or miss fashion. Then sort of forgot about it. I need to get back on it because it caused no side effects. And I really need to lose weight, & comments here about feeling full make me REALLY want to start taking it again because I hardly ever feel full. Now the TV is showing commercials for Belviq, which looks promising but probably will cost an arm & a leg.

All the bad side effects hit me at once. I realize this stuff works for some people, but I never felt so bad in my life after just 3 days. You name it, it hurt! Could not sit down without pain, yes, that bad. Felt awful all of the time. Diarheah, gas, flatuation, really no energy at all. Tired. Thought I was going to die.

I have been on this med for about 6 weeks. I've experienced sluggishness, headaches, dizziness, floating. I'm not on any other cholesterol meds but Gemfi. I was on Tricor(Fenofibrate), but new Insuraance put a stop to that. Never had a problem on Feno for 9 years. My mother is a retired nurse pract. and has her own cholesterol issues. She is now on a natural cholesterol-lowering recipe: 64 fl. oz. welch's grape juice (No Sugar), 48 fl. oz. apple juice(No Sugar), 1 cup pure, raw honey, 1 cup apple cider vinegar. Mix thoroughly in 1 gallon jug. It has naturally lowered her levels with no side effects. I've tried this for a few days now and I do feel better. It's just an alternative that most Doc's will probably argue against. Since there won't be any kickbacks from Welch's!Read More Read Less

I have been taking Gemfibrozil for approx 15 yrs, for past 1-2 yrs my white blood cell count and red blood cell count have declined I was referred with a blood specialist, did not know reason for declined, no signs of cancer, thought maybe it was Gemfibrozil or Metformin, Iam also taking Simvastatin and Losartan/HCTZ ,started taking multiple vitamins ,Vit E,C, any immune boosters my CBC levels now under normal but also experienced all the general body aches and pain, achy bones. My Triglycerides and cholesterol levels are under control, so I just keep taking the Gemfibrozil Read More Read Less
