My Army Doctors all have panic attacks when I tell them I am using Afrin, but other Rx nasal sprays (cortico-steroids and anti-histamines)have almost no effect, except side effects. I have asked them why Afrin is so bad, but the ONLY side effect is that you may become dependent on it. Being that I have literally been congested my entire life without pause, Afrin is a lifesaver! One could argue tha...

I’ve been using this product for a while now but this last night it reacted differently. Burned the living crap out of my throat it’s been 12+ hours and still in tremendous pain. Definitely calling the company. This needs to be off the shelves. Easily one of the worst days I’ve ever had. I’ve never read worse reviews on a product in my life. DO NOT TAKE. BEWARE. Found the Walmart Brand in my medicine bundle at home. I've had hay fever which turned into a sinus infection feeling miserable for two weeks now along w/ dust blowing in from out west. I was absolutely hopeless until I found this! This stuff WORKS!!! BUT IT BURNS SO BAD!!!! The stinging/burning sensation lasted about 2-3 hours but at last I could breathe and live w/o intense sinus pressure. The burn went through my nostrils all the way to the back of my head and into my ears. Made my nose run like crazy and sneezed a ton, so I had to keep tissues nearby blowing my nose every 3 minutes for about 4 hours. But as crazy as the side effects were, I'm so happy I realized I had this stuff laying around. Would rather that than take Sudafed and feel miserable mental side effects. Hopefully I won't need to take it again for a long while!Read More Read Less

I have used nasal sprays before, at night, when my nose has been stopped up. Last night I used the Walgreens brand - maximum strength - oxymetazoline nasal spray. OMG! My nose, sinus cavities, behind my eye, and my head instantly started burning like Iâ??ve NEVER experienced before! It felt like I had snorted some sort of acid! Was scared that irreparable damage was done! Excruciating! Tried breathing in steam, cleaning our with saline, etc. nothing helped or relieved the burning! Lasted over 3 hours. BEWARE! Donâ??t Use! Wouldnâ??t wish this on anyone!Read More Read Less

I felt like someone removed the skin and tissue from my face and blew cold air directly into my sinus cavity. My eye watered relentlessly. Searing pain.

Oh my goodness, Iâ??ve never been in so much pain!!! First time using it. Two sprays in each nostril, followed immediately by excruciating burning in my sinuses and throat. Now Iâ??ve got this intense headache and my eyes hurt in addition to the burning. So terrible. I canâ??t get relief. I rinsed my sinuses with a netti pot, but that didnâ??t help at all. Iâ??m in so much pain!!! This is so bad! Donâ??t use this product! I wish I had read all these reviews first. How is this product still on the shelves!? I may end up going to the ER.Read More Read Less

I have used this nasal spray many times during allergy season oh my Lord I have never felt such an extremely bad burning pain in my life I thought I just sprayed acid up my nose, my eyes are extremely red like if I had pinkeye. I have the worst headache my sinuses are still burning. I would have thought this was tampered with but it wasnâ??t a new bottle. This was the most horrible experience I have ever had and still in pain.

Extreme burning sensation. Extreme discomfort. Rinsing with hot and cold water, saline, and steam did nothing. Marijuana alleviated the pain take it as you will.

I went to ER, and was diagnosed with laryngitis. I'm scheduled to have an upper GI. I have so much pain here and there and so many things going on, I did not pinpoint it as the problem, until this morning, when my throat had finally stopped hurting and I took a squirt and it instantly flared back up. Do not take this stuff, I thought I was going to die. For real. It should not be on the market, it's trash. Anything that hurts that bad has to be doing some damage. wth

Let me preface this by clarifying that I have used different versions of this nose spray many times, but this is the first time I have had such a severe reaction. I've been having allergies pretty bad, so yesterday at work, I decided to use some Walgreen's brand maximum strength oxymetazoline HCI 0.05% nasal spray. I did two squirts in each nostril per the directions. Like many have said on here, almost immediately I started feeling the burning in my nose, throat, and whole head. I thought it would pass shortly, but it just seemed to worsen as time went on. 15 minutes after using the spray, I felt like my head was on fire. Most of it must have drained down my throat, because the most intense burning was in my throat, but the other intense feelings I had were in my gums and teeth. Strangest thing ever, but all at once, I desperately needed to floss my teeth because my gums were actually burning! I tried several things to get relief: drank several glasses of ice cold water. That didn't seem to help at all. I tried taking some liquid Maalox. That helped momentarily, but not for long. I tried gargling with warm salt water and did get relief doing that, but only while I was doing it. It was, as many have described, as if I'd eaten a dozen ghost peppers and they had burned my throat. I took some ibuprofen, took a couple of Tylenol too, and some Benadryl. I had some Chloraseptic throat lozenges, which normally numb your throat, and even those were barely helping. Nothing was cutting it. After two hours, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to go home. I didn't bother going to urgent care because I knew there wasn't anything they could do, but I had read that someone had tried a milkshake and that had helped, so on my way home I got a large milkshake. I drank that all the way home from work, and finally got relief. Plain saltine crackers seemed to help as well. It was still burning when I went to bed, but seems okay this morning. Please be careful using this stuff!Read More Read Less

This medication is horrible. My nose and throat burn so bad! I will never buy it again, in fact it’s in my garbage can. No amount of flushing with normal saline has helped to ease the burning.

I purchased this for nasal congestion. It's been a chronic problem for years. Even surgery didn't help. I was heavily congested and sought relief with drug store brand Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride Spray. It worked right away, but only have me 4-6 hours of relief each dose. I used it twice per day for almost a week before I really noticed the side effects start. It started with what I thought was a sinus headache, not uncommon with my sinus history. It wasn't until the 3rd day that I noticed I was yawning all day and felt fatigued. I don't remember eating that day. I was looking forward to going to bed that night. I took my dose of spray about 30 minutes before bed (10:00pm) and didn't get to sleep until around 2:30am. When I woke up it felt like I hadn't slept at all. 3 days off repeating this and I finally searched for information on the side effects and usage. I wish I would have done my research prior to trying to spray. I'm writing this at 4:00 because I can't sleep and just made the connection with this spray and what's been happening to me. 1) Headache 2) Heartburn feeling 3) Itchy eyes 4) Decreased appetite 5) Increased heart rate 6) Trouble sleeping 7) Fatigue 8) Feel like throwing up - sort of an occasional dry heave It does work well however, just do not exceed 3 days in this stuff. I will not use it again as I am seeking a long term solution to a chronic problem.Read More Read Less

I did 1 spray in each side. Right after, the roof of my mouth, my nose, and my throat started burning. It's been 2 hours and the pain is still as bad as when it started.

The worst decision you will ever make. Only take this is you want to feel like you’ve snorted ghost Chile pepper spray and be crying for hours in terrible pain. This spray needs to be taken off the market immediately.
