I have a hiatal hernia which lead to esophagitis. I seemed to have a remission for about a year when I started drinking aloe vera juice (look in this, it helps acid reflux) but I have a bit of a return of my acid symptoms so I'm back on this medicine which has worked pretty well in the past. Chest bloating, mild chest pain. A little tip to save money, get the cheaper pill form and a pill crushe...

After taking this medicine for a week, I started having constipation despite Miralax every night, high fiber diet + 8 glasses of water/day. Finally had to quit b/c it "paralyzed" my colon and I was unable to have a bm. It took 3 days of Milk of Magnesia and another week before I was able to go - then developed crampy diarrhea. I will NEVER use Carafate again!!!!

My GI Dr. put me on the liquid after she did test & found out I had a stomach ulcer. It worked best, she took me off of it after another test said it was half way healed.Told me to keep taking Dexilant for 2 weeks in the AM & Nexium at Bedtime, then stop Dexilant. This was after 4 weeks. After 2 weeks of doing without it,I started having problems. My regular Dr. put me back on the pills & they are good too.I am supposed to go back to GI doctor the 8th. of September & see what she says.I have a friend that is a nurse & she said she didn't know of anyone that has been put on Carafate,to ever be able to stop it without symptoms coming back. It does work for me,while I am taking it.I do have a hard time keeping up with separating my other from it as far as time.I can't take it with my thyroid med. or a few others.Read More Read Less

The doctor had my try the pill because she believes I have gerd. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2005. I have pain in my right side that's why she gave me this pill. This pill gave me severe headache and stomach pain so bad I was sick. I stopped taking it and going to get a second opinion.

Developed body rash. Medication is either reacting to other meds or I'm allergic to it. Have celiac disease and am careful to watch for ingredients that might cause problems. This was a surprise.

I had an ulcer back in 1985 and this was the only thing that healed me. Now I guessing my ulcer is back and this once again was the ONLY thing that took away the pain. Love this stuff!

I am recovering from esophageal cancer, After going thru radiation and CHEMO, my lower esophagus and stomach was removed. the intestine was attached to the remaining esophagus. Food regularly hangs up at the surgery site. My doctor asked that this medicine 3 times a day. I hope it helps, we'll give it go! My review is a wishful review, not fact, will review in full at a later date.

My gi doctor prescribed carafate because I have Bile Reflux induced Gastritis in combination with IBS I also have to take Prevacid. CARAFATE causes a lot of side effects Constipation ,dry mouth, stomach pain, back pain, and it makes my IBS constipation worse. With having both conditions I feel like I am going through a merry go around one Arafat's is supposed to protect my stomach from the bile reflux which I already as diagnosed with Before I had my gall stones removed 3 years later I had my gall bladder removed but bile reflux did not get worse after that which usually happens it's just the same as before the surgery. Being on Arafat's and prevails for close to 4years it is so not at all beneficial for my joints and bone density.Read More Read Less

I have had this prescribed months and months ago. Recently my esophagitis has been acting up real bad. I had forgotten how helpful carafate is for reflux and inflamation. I have read some of your reviews and it has given me hope that taking this 3-4 times a day will help this terrible heartburn and pain in the chest that has been causing me so much grief and anxiety. I will update my review after awhile to say how it's going.

After 10yrs and 3 ER visits for food logged in my throat and 1 OR procedure I'm now symptom free thanks to 900 Carafate 1GM/10ml SUS AXCA. This is a Liquid. Here is what I do. 1) 1 Aciphex 20mg tablet at 8pm. 2) 1 tablespoon of Liquid Carafate at 9pm. 3) 1 tablespoon of Liquid Rolaids at 10pm. In Less than 1 week almost all my symptoms has disappeared. I had a stabbing sensation in the middle of my check whenever I drank anything hot or cold or when I swallowed food. After one day on the medication the problem was solved.

On this drug for 2 days, had every side effect, including excruciating back pain. Woke upn in the middle of the night with dry mouth and throat and acid washing up onto it, not a good combination, set me back several days. Awful Drug! No better than Maalox.

Nexium wasn't working so I went off it but when you go off Nexium, you have a rebounding acid reflux for up to 2 months, however by taking this, I do not have the acid reflux and I do believe that taking this without Nexium would have worked initially.

I have constipation from this medication. I have been taking 10ml twice daily. Now I have a bad case of constipation. I am passing grey colored water and stool from dulcolax and miralx. Along with this I have had a pulsing headache on one side of my head. I know this is all related. My gastro took me off the med. I am due for a endo. Thank you

I have been using this medication for about 3 days now. I had gastric by pass and this ulcer is painful. This med works but not for long before the pain comes back. I am hoping after 1-2 weeks it gets much better. I am also taking omelprazole. The taste of this med is not too bad either, because I HATE liquid meds. They make me gag. It is also not a thick liquid.
