I started on this medication about 8 months ago. At first it was great in preventing my headaches. Still had a few but not as bad as usual. I had every side effect listed. Starting with tingling hands/feet. I felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was always seeing streaking lights or spots. I became very thirsty all the time and nothing tasted good but water. I have lost nearly 22 ...

DO NOT GO ON THIS MEDICATION, I was prescribed this medication for migraines and it has completely ruined my life. When I was on topiramate my arms and legs would go numb and I could not move them, I started to halucinate and have all kinds of mental problems. I also stopped being able to get an erection and lost all sexual feelings what so ever, including acheiving an orgasm. I also developed ...

I was prescribed this medication for anxiety attacks. My doc recommended it although it is used to treat migraines she said it would be pretty good for me and it has helped me very much since I started taking it. I have noticied a significant amount of drowsiness but I think that it is a very tiny tradeoff for the bigger reward of being rid off my fits of crying and random anxiety attacks and loss of sleep. I hope eveyrone finds something that works for them as well. =)

I am trying to get rid of a headache I have had for 3 months. Neurontin didn't work. Topamax is not working. It is mostly an all over pressure headache with a few zingers thrown in from time to time, but always there. MRI showed nothing. Most relief gotten is from taking aspirin > tylenol > ibuprofen > every 2 hrs when I remember or can get to them. But it is very hard on the stomach. Topamax is nauseating whether I eat or not though. Tingling - oofdah! Moodswings...I don't know if those are from the meds or dealing with the pain all the time. I'm starting to think my Dr. has given up; I sure feel that way sometimes. So Topamax for me and whatever this headache is from is a definite NO help.Read More Read Less

I have only been on this med for a little over a week and for the first time in over a year I have not woken up with that "feeling"! I have very little, minor, side effects, none that are life changing. The most annoying, if I can say that, is that fact that I can no longer drink any soda. It all just tastes like liquid fire in my mouth. There is no flavor, just painful carbonation buring my tongue and roof of my mouth. My I do tend to get a little slower about 4-5 hours after i take it and a tad confused (for lack of a better term) but it goes away and I feel good. I feel as if I am gettin gmy life back!Read More Read Less

I took this medicine for my anxiety....it gave me withdrawls, fuzzy head, memory loss, trouble concentrating. It turned my world upside down!! My days felt like weeks and I was very emotional all the time! My taste buds were shot, especially for soda!! No fizz!! My 3 year old got very confused on how I was acting!! Please get all the facts before taking this med for anxiety/nerves!!!

Posted on 6/17/09 with hair loss due to taking this generic. Am glad to say I am back on the brand and my hair is starting to return to normal and am starting to feel the same way before taking the generic. Wish I could take it because of the low cost, but too many side effects.

The genaric has not worked as well for me. Headaches returned, lack of concentration, and my blood pressure has been high since being switched from the Topamax.

In response to post from 6/17/2009, I had a very similar experience with hair loss. I am a very young 35 yr. old who started losing hair by the hand fulls. I quit using a brand name shampoo that I had researched and found out was known to cause hair loss! But my pharmacy fluctuates between the real and the generic, so my hair has stopped falling out now. But I agree with you that I would rather have the tingles, WHICH by the way ORANGE JUICE will help to ease those, Honest!! Some generics can pretty much do the same as their counterparts, but we should be able to decide which works best for us! I wish you luck with the hair issue. Unfortunately, it just took me relaxing, and allowing time and nature to take it's course, and my hair is now back to it's normal length and thickness. Read More Read Less

This is the poisoned version of Topamax, not the generic version. I started taking brand Topamax 6 months ago. Had some tingling in my hands(minor) and stomach upset(which just made me more aware of eating better) and loss of appetite/weight loss(but I could afford to lose some weight)--none of these I could not live with. I have had worse side effects on other prescriptions I have taken. Less than a month ago, I started taking the generic, Topiramate, and I have regretted it ever since. Have not helped my headaches like the Topamax and my hair has started falling out like I am on chemo. It is started to freak me out. I never had this hair loss on the brand Topamax even though I know it is listed as a very rare side effect of it. I honestly believe it is the generic--I went 6 months on the brand without this side effect. I am now back on the brand, but I am still losing hair like crazy. It is not recommended to quit this medication cold turkey and I am not looking forward to getting the headaches back, but I really think that I am too young to be bald, which is the way I will be if the rate of my hair loss doesn't cease. Has anyone had this problem switching? Please Please post!! If something helped, please put it on here. I am getting very anxious. I know they say that generics are the same, but how can they sell them so much cheaper and still keep the same effectiveness and quality as the original?Read More Read Less

I am greatful that I no long have nay mograines and one minor headaches a times, but wow...the tingling and numbness was really bad at first. So bad, I could bare it, but when I went back to my doctor for a follow-up appointment, he reduced the dosage and I am good as far as that goes. My taste buds are also affected in taking these meds and this iss what makes me self-contious. Seems like I always have a bad taste in my mouth and even worst, I shy away from being in people face becuase I'm thinking my breaths smells like the bad taste I have in my mouth. For a young adult going from meeting to meeting and social gathering to social gathering, I'm not sure it's the best solution. Read More Read Less

I just recently switched from Topamax to Topiramate and are having some annoying side effects. Had been on topamax since 2006. When I first started on it I experienced "trails" off of objects- especially at night, little to no sleep, weight loss, numbness in limbs and nausua/ GI issues and some really minor memory and motorskill slowness. Now that I have switched to the generic- my body is reacting to the new meds like I had orignally. It's making work a little difficult- and I really can't drive at night. Not sure if it might be an adjustment issue or if it's a bad reaction. Read More Read Less

I have used Topamax for years and loved how it regulates my migraines, but as soon as my insurance decided they would prefer I be on generic topiramate things went downhill. The first day I tried the generic on a Friday I noticed tingling stabbing pains in both my feet and hands. I woke up at night and both my feet felt like there were a million little needles poking them. I was continually nauseated, and I just didn't feel myself. Things were all a blur and I was forgetting simple things, not common for a healthy active 22 years old mother. After the third day of use, my hands and arms began to go numb and then my feet and legs. What scared me the most was my feet went numb when I was driving. I called my doctor first thing on Monday morning and luckily my insurance company allowed me to return to brand name Topamax. I thank my lucky stars. I have never had any side effects from any medication I have ever taken before, this is the first. The sides effects of this generic topiramate are very real and scary. Read More Read Less

I was using Topamax and my insurance switched me to this because is was cheaper.(generic) The bottoms of both of my feet were constantly numb and hurt like someone was poking needles in them. Needless to say without much arguing with the insurance company I'm back on Topamax and those side effects are gone.
