I started on this medication about 8 months ago. At first it was great in preventing my headaches. Still had a few but not as bad as usual. I had every side effect listed. Starting with tingling hands/feet. I felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was always seeing streaking lights or spots. I became very thirsty all the time and nothing tasted good but water. I have lost nearly 22 ...

DO NOT GO ON THIS MEDICATION, I was prescribed this medication for migraines and it has completely ruined my life. When I was on topiramate my arms and legs would go numb and I could not move them, I started to halucinate and have all kinds of mental problems. I also stopped being able to get an erection and lost all sexual feelings what so ever, including acheiving an orgasm. I also developed ...

I have found that for the first few weeks of taking this, I was very tired, and needed to take many naps and I noticed my extremedies tingling soon after I took the dose, and close to when it was time for another dose. These are all totally acceptable to me since it had eliminated my migranes, I am a much happier person, also I csn concentrate much better, and I have lost pounds of weight. I did take topomax for years untill the insurance wouldn't cover it unless there was a generic version. When I was transitioning from the topomax it was almost like I was not taking anything, so be careful of this. After the transitioning everything was great again. I have had no kidney stones, and the only thing it effected was the carbonated drink taste seems flat. Otherwise everything is great. This drug, in my oppinion, is a wonder drug.Read More Read Less

My neuroligist slowly put me on topomax in increasements of 15mg/week for 6 weeks until I was up to up to 50mg 2x a day (she did this so there wouldn't be alot of side effects she said) almost 2 years ago to help combat my severe 1-2 migraines a week and then 7 months ago for some reason the pharmacy switched to topiramate. Over the past four months Ive been quite ill with stomach problems and frequent migraines again that if caught sometimes I can treat with my Zomig. I am just starting to feel like a drug addict. And my family and Job are starting to suffer because of it. Over the past 2 years I have managed to lose 40 pounds! I never even thought it could have been the generic form. Read More Read Less

I was prescibed this medication to deal with persistent migraine headaches. Since taking the medication I've lost 17 pounds and noticed a slight tingling sensation in my extremities. I would say the most irritating side effect would have to be the loss off taste of carbonated beverages. All sodas and beers taste COMPLETELY flat now. It works great for migraines though.

Well do not go by my stars for much of anything... I have only taken Topiramate for 48 hours. But have already had massive amounts of body tingling... mainly hands... and have thrown up every meal I have eatten. I advise drinking ALOT with this because I have thrown up before even finishing the meals and without there being liquid its hurts your throat like hell... I'm going to see if the side effects calm down but to start off its a little scary, and I can honestly say never befor have i ever been effected by side effects... so Im suprised these were so intenseRead More Read Less

i started off slow, but now I take it twice in the morning and twice in the evening, I haven't had a migraine for the entire month I've been on it, but I do get agitated easily. I have also lost 7 lbs in a month, which is ok for me since I am a over weight. I do have a little tingling, but nothing bad. Overall I've benn good on this medicine. Oh and no tiredness for me.

I have been on Topamax for 2 1/2 years and 6 months ago began taking the generic version, Topiramate. I thought it was working the same but then developed intense migranes again 1-2 times a week so my doctor just put me on Proponolol, which has made me nausous daily. I have also noticed that my hair has become very thin and start falling out in clumps. Is this linked to the generic version?

Replaced Topamax based on cost. There seem to be some side effects that may not make it a good choice based on this decision alone.

Although my seizures were well controlled with Topamax, my insurance company will no longer pay for it, so this past summer (2009) I had to switch to Toiramate. Since that time, I've had an increase in seizure activity. My neurologist increased the dosage of Topiramate again in July, but it hasn't helped. This led to a second seizure medication being added for me. Generics aren't as effective in treating seizure disorders. Avoid them if you can!

I just recently started taking the generic form of topamax, which is topiramate. I have noticed a difference with my headaches since the switch. Is this common?
