I have been on this medication for approximately 6 weeks. I have tried several other cholesterol meds but nothing worked and I had extreme joint pain while on the other meds. After one month, my cholesterol dropped from 260 to 140. My tri dropped from 390 to 240. My dr also had me take 5000 units of Vitamin D one week prior to starting the Livalo and continuing for two weeks after I started th...

I've been on Livalo for 4 years. A couple of years ago I began complaining about bad foot and leg cramps. Mostly up my shin and the outside muscle running from ankle to knee. My doctor didn't seem concerned or relate it to the Livalo, so I kept taking my daily 2mg. In the last year the cramps have become severe and debilitating. I've cried and screamed in pain, scaring my husband. I took myself off the Livalo and the cramps have become less intense and less frequent. While the drug has lowered my cholesterol, it most certainly has not inprove my quality of life.Read More Read Less

This is a drug from hell. It lowered my cholesterol, but appears to have killed my immune system. I have been sick ever since taking this drug. First, I had a 6 weeks long cold--the worst cold in my live. Then I caught a sinus infection and bronchitis at the same time. I have never felt such a miserable constellation of symptoms--total fatigue, exhaustion, chills, fevers, cold feet, cold hands, bone rattling cough, chest mucus, runny nose, congested sinuses, eye pain, total loss of appetite for all food, abnormal tastes, no desire to drink any fluids, headaches, etc. I regret every single day I have been on this pill. My M.D. has discontinued it, but he said it will take weeks to clear my system.Read More Read Less

It did bring my numbers down after only a month. But the body and joint pains were not worth it. I have been one 4 different statins and each one has given me pain. I have a life to live and this is just not the way I wish to live it. I've always eaten pretty healthy but three months ago I changed everything, became a vegetarian and started exercising more. Today my numbers were only slightly higher so I am going to keep doing what I am doing in hopes I can live without statins.

This gave me terrible muscle and body aches. The muscles in my thumbs became like charlie horse pain and I can not get rid of the pain. I NEVER HAD Carpel Tunnel, but I think this may be worse. And as with a Charlie horse, the pain just lingers. It also gave me a terrible side ache and muscle cramps in my legs.

Crestor & Lipitor were causing intense muscle aches to the point where I had to lift my legs to climb stairs. Livalo has worked well and accomplished all that it was mfg. to do. However, I won't be able to continue with it since my insurance no longer covers it. It's over $200. in chain drugstores. In fact, many ins. companies I looked into don't cover it. Wonderful medication! Highly recommend.

This medication worked great to bring my numbers down but I started have aches and pains same as with other statins. It started with my hands tingling and I could hardly close them. My legs ached so much and I could hardly walk up and down stairs. I've been off now for over 1 month and am feeling much better. Not the cripple anymore. My hands don't bother me anymore. I had blood test this week and my numbers are up again but I don't want to live to an old age if I have to feel like I do on statins. I started to have afib episodes while on the medication. Don't know if it is related in any way but will not be taking anymore statins.Read More Read Less

I just started this drug, been on it for a week. Have developed flu like symtoms. Chills, muscle aches, cough, pounding heart and headache, loss of appetite. Tried several other statins and this one is supposed to be better tolerated. I am going off of it and giving myself time to feel better. Will try again in a few days to see if it happens again.

In one month bad cholesterol dropped 40%. Triglycerides dropped 60%. Good cholesterol went up 30%. All good. Much less pain than Lipitor and a few others. 2mg of livalo is much better than 40mg of Lipitor!

I was previously on Avorastatin but had to discontinue because of muscle aches and nightmares that it gave me along with raising my blood sugar. I stopped avorastatin and through diet brought my A1C from 5.7 to 5.5 within a few months. Then my doctor wanted me to use Livalo. Initially it lowered my total cholesterol to 169. After 4 months of use my cholesterol and no dietary or exercise change it then raised my cholesterol to 201 and my A1C to 6.0 which is the higher than it's ever been. I am discontinuing. Also my doctors says that since I am prediabetic anyway that I will become diabetic eventually. I don't agree as I know of some people that have been pre-diabetic for their whole lives and never became diabetic. One fact to note is that their is evidence to show that some people will have higher blood sugars levels on statins. Read More Read Less

I have been on Livalo for approximately 6 months. I have blurry vision, constipation, memory loss, pain in wrists and thinning hair. I am going to discontinue use and see if these symptoms disappear.

Livolo is the third statin I've tried following rouvastatin (Crestor) and pravastatin (Pravachol). Side effects start within days: achy all over (similar to coming down with cold), strong pain in upper shoulders and back, exhausted, sleepy, frequent lapses in concentration. I have no clue if the pravastatin or Livolo are effective as I've stopped due to side effects before cholesterol testing. I took the Crestor for months and suffered. I had no idea the Crestor was causing my issues until I did a search online and made the connection. My doctor at the time didn't think the issues were related but my new doctor seemed to accept the side effects as statin related.Read More Read Less

I have been on many cholesterol medications. They all weren't that effective and caused muscle pain. My Dr started me on Livalo 1 mg over four months ago. I had a blood test after taking it 3 months and my numbers were all within normal levels. I finally have a LDL reading and triglycerides were cut in half.My Dr and I were so pleased. A few months ago I started having lower back pain, shoulder pain, headaches and now such pain in my wrists and my fingers lock. I hurt all the time but seems it gets worst around 8-9PM and going to bed sometimes is a nightmare. I can't turn over in bed because the cheeks of my but, my shoulders and hand hurt so bad. This pain was so bad that I have been going to pain management. Had injections in shoulders, hips, back etc and only eased for a week or two. No mentioned it could be the medication. My mom (88yrs old, who was a nurse) kept telling me to get off the poison. I am off it a week and I still have pain but I guess it builds up in your body. I will stay off it but in the meantime I need to find something, other than meds, to help me. I have been going to a personal trainer 2xs a week and couldn't go today because of all the pain. Can't make a fist. In other word, this med is definitely a poison.Read More Read Less

Started 2 mg Livalo in mid-Feb. 2014 and in 2 weeks my cholesterol dropped dramatically from 317 to 213; LDL from 224 to 99; HDL went from 69 to 80. Even though every day I had flu like symptoms I vowed to stay on it until I couldn't stand it any longer I quit on 4/23/14. I had headaches all day and night, my body aches never stopped,queasy/nauseated, and extremely tired all the time. Tried to keep up my exercises but it only added to my body aches. Told my doctor my symptoms and was authorized to reduce my dosage 1/2 on 4/23/14 but by then I was sick and tired of being sick. Three days after stopping my headaches went away, then my body aches, tiredness and queasiness. I'm seeing a Naturepathic doctor because I can tolerate Red Yeast Rice capsules which has a small amount of statin drug in them plus I will go vegetarian if I have to. Have tried Crestor with the same results plus increase in my liver enzymes so had to stop. Statins work but for some people at what price?Read More Read Less

After not tolerating several other statins, tried Livalo which caused severe fatigue and muscle soreness. My liver function tests went up to 4x upper limit of normal and after 2 months are not improving. My total cholesterol went UP from 220 to 278! I also developed kidney stones! Repeat labs off the Livalo showed my total and LDL were lower being OFF the drug! My doctor said it inflamed my liver and it in turn produced more cholesterol in reaction. NO MORE STATINS!! They are TOXIC!

The muscle pain was intolerable. I had cold chills and felt like my toes and fingers had frost bit. I was sick to my stomach and had diarhea. My headache was so bad, I could not tolerate the light. This is a very scary drug.
