I have never been on any birth control other than using condoms and decided to get an iud, Skyla more towards ladies who haven't had a child. Did lots of research and it is a shame that you only find negative and scary stories online bc no one will take the time to write a good review. I am a woman who does not ever see side effects from any medication, everything always works as it states on ...

I went in to get skyla inserted today. Most painful experience EVER! It was like really bad cramps x1000. After inserting my doctor said I should be fine after 5 minutes. I wasn't. I was in so much pain I was shaking uncontrollably and almost fainted. The nurses said my body just "rejected" it. Needless to say my doctor had to remove it. Worst experience with birth control ever.

Insertion for me was very quick and painless I was just very nervous b/c of the scary things u can read online. Keep in mind all woman are different. The recovery was terrible for me because I was bleeding for up to six months and I had bad cramps and pelvic pain. Meanwhile my causin who also has the iud skyla had no irregular bleeding no cramps and her period eventually stopped. After the recovery my period went back to normal. On time every month and there lighter with no cramps. Sex is the same only down side is my partner can feel the strings depending on the position but, skyla must be working because no babies here. Overall skyla is great just the recovery was god awful for me after that everything went back to normal canâ??t even tell I got it. Read More Read Less

I had the Skyla IUD put in 6 weeks after having my daughter. Although I didn't experience many of the physical side effects many women do such as cramps, bleeding, and irregular periods. The emotional side effects took a toll on not only me, but my partner as well. One minute I would be fine, the next I would feel overwhelmingly depressed. I was at the point of crying everyday. I've never had a history of depression in my entire life. I tried waiting it out for a year hoping it would wear off and balance out, this is what I was told would happen. It only got worse. In fact, when I expressed my concern about hormonal mood swings, he told me not to worry. He explained the hormones would stay localized in my uterus and not effect the rest of body. BS! I know my body. My boyfriend had to endure my severe ups and downs. He even started to question whether or not I might be bipolar. Besides the lingering feeling of sadness, the fatigue, back pain, the heavy feeling progressively was getting worse. So with that being said, My boyfriend and I did some research and made the decision to remove it ourselves. It was totally painless. I've had it out 15 minutes now and I feel as though the thorn is no longer in my side. Ladies, if your life and relationships have gone south since getting an IUD, take my story into account. Pull it out. I feel angry that women aren't educated or warned of the mental side effects as well as they should be. It's all about the money for many doctors and they can withhold information to make a buck. It is our jobs as women to do our homework and be aware of what is being put in our bodies. I have heard there is a "Mirena Crash" while the hormones leave your body. I've been crashing since I got this IUD. It's a small price to pay for a happy and healthy state of mind. If my story helps just one woman, or boyfriend for that matter (it wasn't easy for him either) then I guess there is a silver lining.Read More Read Less

I got Skyla two years ago. The pain of insertion wasnâ??t bad for me. I didnâ??t have pain reliever beforehand either. Before Skyla, I never had acne, dry scalp, thinning hair, or weight gain. Now, my face and back are covered with acne, my scalp stays dry even after many scalp treatments, my hair is thinning, and Iâ??ve gained 30 pounds. About a week before my period starts, my cramps are so bad. My periods have begun to last 10 days and occur every two weeks. I decided to get Skyla removed two days ago after having daily headaches, nausea, and dizziness. I feel so tired all of the time. The removal didnâ??t hurt at all. It just felt like a quick pinch. I had mild cramps the day of removal but didnâ??t bleed. Today, I am bleeding like a stuffed pig and I was just on my period last week. I hope my body gets back to normal soon. I will say Skyla did its job and I never ended up pregnant. It just didnâ??t agree with my body. If you do decide Skyla is the right choice for you, just be aware of any abnormal changes in your body. Read More Read Less

August 2016, I had my skyla placed. It was awful and I could feel the blood pouring out of me, and all over the paper covered "bed". This OBGYN had previously given me 2 c sections. I have not had a period since I had it inserted. Not even one, until December it was an idyllic form of birth control: since December I've gained a little over 40lbs, had a freak gallbladder rupture, I had ONE 1mm gal stone and so I've had my gallbladder removed. My skin was always dry and I have had oily skin since November 2016. My anxiety and depression medication was not working. I fact it made me crazier, so I stopped taking that. However where I feel so down in myself for being this heavy, heavier than each of my 3 pregnancies at full term. I am not emotionally stable, honestly I don't feel my skyla was worth all the stress, trouble and just how overall unhealthy I am and feel. I've been strictly dieting for 3.5mis and I have not budged one pound. I make well over 10,000 steps a day. I am scheduled to have it removed September 11th of 2017. I hope to have my life back soon. I had Skyla inserted in April of 2016, and I took it out in March (2017) because my experience was so awful. I gained 40 lbs in 3 months, my face was covered in horrific acne (which I have never had before), I bled at random every week at high volumes, and the cramping was near constant for almost a year. I heard the insertion was painful, so I expected that (don't wear jeans!), but after giving it time to work, I finally had to take it out after passing out in class because of the blood loss I was enduring constantly. If you have any iron deficiency problems, be very very careful with this. The only plus side I can think of is I didn't get pregnant and the extraction wasn't nearly as painful as the insertion. I'm back to birth control pills now, and my acne cleared within a month. Read More Read Less

I got my Skyla inserted in early May, so I am about at the 3 month mark. I decided to get the Skyla after being on the pill for a month and hating it. After talking with my OBGYN whom I LOVE, she recommended the Skyla since I'm going off to college in the fall and wanted a long term birth control that wouldn't be a hassle. After reading lots of reviews online and talking with people in my life who have/had an iud and what their experiences were, i decided to get it. I made an appointment and my doctor told me to take 800 mg of Motrin/Advil about a half hour before my appointment. DO THIS! After reading reviews of how horrible insertion is, I was preparing for the worse. My mom drove me and I had canceled all plans for the next 48 hours. I don't know if it was me or just an amazing doctor, but insertion was not bad at all. Not a walk in the park, but not torturous. There were two bad cramps: when she opened my cervix and when the skyla was inserted. Both of those cramps sucked but I've had period cramps way worse. I just turned on my favorite calming music and focused on that. Insertion took maybe 10 min tops. No dizziness or lightheadedness afterwards. A little cramping later in the day, but I just took another 400mg dose of advil and was fine. The first 2 months I did experience spotting and breakthrough bleeding daily, but that has stopped, as have my periods. I do experience some liquidy discharge some days that require a pantyliner or divacup, but my doctor says that should end soon too. Birth control aspect has been effective and amazing. I can't quite reach the strings to check them so I have my partner feel for them during foreplay now and then (LOL). I do experience some PMS symptoms for about a day or two around the time I would be getting my period, but nothing extreme. Overall I HIGHLY recommend this product and will most likely get it replaced when the time comes.Read More Read Less

I had the skyla inserted earlier this year after talking about my options with my provider. The insertion was less than pleasant and followed with a full day of sever cramping. Knowing that some cramping may be normal I kept the IUD in for a little over two months and had so many complications with that. Most of the complications I was experiencing is what most women would experience after having it inserted for more than a couple months. It started off with stabbing, shocking pains in my lower abdomen where the Skyla was. When I got my first period this birth-control inside me it was the worst experience of my life. It was the heaviest period I have ever experienced and also the worst cramps of my life. I would decide the pain of being in labor and having contractions. When I called my OB/GYN she had actually told me to go to the emergency room and get the Skyla removed. To avoid any hospital fees I waited until I was able to see my provider to get the Skyla removed. Upon removal she did a pelvic exam and everything seemed to be fine. The removal of the Skyla was also very uncomfortable which followed with sever cramping and fatigue. It is now been over one month since I had the skyla removed and I am still experiencing severe cramping during my periods and lower abdominal pain at times I am not ovulating. It has also effected my sex life since I suffer with pain during intercourse at times. My provider told me that it may take up to two months for me to go back to normal. I honestly really hope that I do not suffer from side effects from Skyla for longer than the two months she had said. Before Skyler I never had problems with my period, let alone problems with cramping. Read More Read Less

Before getting Skyla, most of the comments I read were negative. I promised myself I would write a review if I had a positive experience. So here I am, nearly at my 3 year mark, and I cannot say enough positive things about Skyla. I love this IUD. I am so happy I went with it. My periods are light, and I used to suffer from acne but Skyla has not increased either my acne or my weight. Insertion was painful, but brief. It does NOT feel like cramps. I recommend taking the day off from work, and having someone available to drive you home. But one day of brief pain and discomfort is worth 3 years of not worrying about getting pregnant. I've been on birth control for 17 years now, and I can say with confidence Skyla is the only one I've been 100% satisfied with. I just wish it could be in longer.Read More Read Less

I am 15 years old. I got Skyla inserted in February 2017, so I have used it for about 3 months. I was terrified to use this type of birth control especially since I saw a lot of negative reviews. However, I decided to get it anyway. I was in the room alone with my doctor, and she was very nice and walked me through step by step. As the Skyla was being inserted, I remember feeling two giant cramps and I probably groaned in pain a little, but given that I am so young, I have never even had sex or have given birth, I feel as if I handled it very well. After it was finished, I sat up without a problem. I took 3 Motrin about 30 minutes before the insertion and I was already on my period so I felt little to no pain afterward. I can say I am very pleased with Skyla. My first couple periods were irregular and my cramps were more painful, but the doctor said that is normal and I should expect to see lighter periods the longer I have the IUD. So to be frank, I would recommend this to women who don't want to become pregnant and have somewhat of a high pain tolerance. If you've given birth, Skyla will be a piece of cake. If you plan on getting the IUD, don't read through reviews and talk yourself out of it. It was well worth it for me and I will have birth control for the next three years. every woman is different, so I'm not saying that just because I had good results, everyone else will. I'm saying, take the leap and put on your big girl panties because most likely, everything will turn out okay in the end. If not, your doctor can always remove your IUD and you can get your cycle back to normal.Read More Read Less

I had Skyla placed Feb 2017. The insertion was not as bad as everyone says. The pain only lasted for about 20 seconds during insertion. I had mild cramping for a day and then it went away. The only thing I am disappointed with Skyla is I have been bleeding non-stop for the past 3 weeks and it is now the month of May. My period is very irregular. My doctor said that it is normal to bleed 3-6 months, But I am SICK of having to buy tampons every week. I can't seem to stop bleeding. If this continues for another month I am considering in having my doctor take Skyla out and choose a different form of birth control. Read More Read Less

Insertion was a bit painful but not unbearable. You go from no cramps to very strong cramps and pressure. After the first day of so the pain went away and I was spotting for about a week. I've had my Skyla for almost 3 years now and will taking it out in a few months. I love the simplicity of it, no pills to take and no worrying if you forgot to call in a new prescription. The only down fall to it for me was the cramps. I wouldn't cramp all the time but when I did they were strong! I would bloat and cramp all day, even spot a little and then they would go away. I even felt like sometimes I had cysts on my ovaries because the pain was localized to where my ovaries were. But overall, I would definitely do this again! Read More Read Less

I have had my Skyla for approximately three months. There was some cramping when it was placed, but nothing terrible. That evening I had very bad cramps, like on a heavy period, but nothing a heating pad and some anti-inflammatories couldn't fix. I spotted for about two weeks after and since then I have had a regular period about every six weeks. The IUD has not affected my sex life and my hormones are much more stable when I am on my period.

Of course it hurt during the insertion, but nothing unbearable. And it only lasts around 20 seconds for the insertion. I love it so far, of course I have longer and irregualr periods but I KNEW about the side effects. It is annoying but HELLA LOT BETTER THAN A BABY. Plus my body is still getting used to it and my doctor said I may not have periods at all after awhile. Some weird cramps but nothing that requires pain meds. I would recommend it for college students and younger crowd who dont want kids. Its a very VERY LOW dose of hormones, it just releases mirco amounts everyday. So i dk why people complain about weight gain and hair loss etc. The pills didnt work for me and my doctor recommend this. Works amazingly. But everyone is different. Read More Read Less

I got Skyla about a year ago. The insertion pain was excruciating. I wish my doctor had told me more about what it would be like. I had a lot of cramping pain for about 3 weeks after getting it in. I had to take pain medication constantly. I didn't have periods for the first 6 months after getting it, but I would experience heavy cramping once a month probably when I would be getting my period. I now get light periods about once a month and the cramping is worse that before I got the IUD. I don't have much cramping other times of the month though. Ultimately, I don't know if I'd do it again. The cramping has been bad at times, but its nice to not have to worry about getting pregnant or taking a pill. Read More Read Less

I'm now officially one month into Skyla life, and I have had a much more positive experience than other women seem to have had. I'm married but never had kids. The insertion pain was THE WORST I've ever experienced, and I had taken 800 mg of ibuprofen 45 min. beforehand, and I was dizzy and sweaty for about 15-20 minutes after insertion. Then I had cramping for the rest of the day/into the night. But then...nothing! I traveled on a plane the next day without any issues. I was on my period when it was inserted, so I continued with my period for the next few days (but it was very light, barely needed a tampon) and I've had maybe 5-6 days of spotting within the last month. Sex felt a bit weird the first time, like I knew something was up there, but I am unsure if it was just a placebo effect or not. I've had no issues with that since then. Just today I started cramping again, but very, very mildly (less than my typical menstrual cramps), which I have been prepared for, as I would be getting my period around this time. Otherwise, I've had no issues with the IUD and thank myself every day for getting it!Read More Read Less

After insertion, I had light spotting for about two weeks then went away. I never had a period again. After 8 months in an annual gynecology appointment, my doctor was unable to find my strings. This prompt them to do an ultrasound which showed that it has actually moved inside my cervix. Since it was a very painful insertion, I was looking forward to not having to deal with it for another three years but within the first year I had to go through the minor, but painful experience again.

I got skyla on May 25th 2016 to help with a hormone problem and heavy bleeding. I was sleep when it was implanted so i do not know if that part hurt. But I have been up,down, happy, sad, angry all at once. I have had abdominal cramping 99% of the time since May 25th 2016. Im not bleeding as heavy as i was prior, but I bleed lightly almost everyday. I have had a low sex drive, fatigue, nausea and night sweats. The past 2 weeks the cramping has gotten worse and as of 1/10/2017 it hurts when I walk or use the bathroom and my vision blurry and constantly vomiting. I am going to the ER today to get it removed It may work for some just not for me.Read More Read Less

I am a 32 year old woman and had never had a baby when I had the Skyla inserted over 2 years ago. I had no pain medication and the insertion was the worst pain I've ever felt- definitely take tylenol prior to insertion. I had extreme cramping vomiting and felt like I was going to faint. Thank God I have vicodin at home because it was the only thing that stopped the pain. I gained 20 pounds over the 2 years and attribute Skyla to some of that weight gain as my eating habits and exercising did not change. I had 2 years of unprotected sex with my partner and never got pregnant. I also only got a very light period 4 times for the whole 2 years- hence the good review. The removal was not nearly as painful! We started trying to conceive 4 months after the removal and got pregnant on our first try! Good luck. Read More Read Less

I had skyla inserted in April 2016 and after a couple months of my body adjusting it was great! But, last month while having sex with my boyfriend I felt extreme pain in my uterus so we stopped. After a couple of excruciating hours trying to decide if it was skylas fault it hurt, I decided to go to the ER. The pain was so bad I couldn't even walk straight. After the ER doctor removed my iud I was instantly relieved. I'd never felt son relieved in my life. According to the ER doctor my iud had rotated slightly during intercourse and that's what caused the extreme pain. He also said that more often than not women came in to have it removed from it moving around in they're uterus. I won't ever get another iud.Read More Read Less

Today is the first day that I have my skyla so I can't say much yet. Other than I read so many reviews about pain and cramping. I did experience severe cramps but with Tylenol, they have lightened up. Sleep sleep sleep after getting it. Other than the cramping, it was not too painful. It was quick and easy. I think I'm going to be happy with my skyla.
