My daughter began TOBI podhaler on June 10th. She experienced significant nausea from the outset. She also began having her period within 24 hours. Two weeks later she was still having her period and extreme nausea had turned to vomiting. She was admitted to the hospital on June 24th with elevated creatinine levels (kidney function was being effected). The last dose of TOBI was the evening of the 24th. By the evening of the 26th she had finally stopped bleeding and her kidney function had returned to normal. She has received tobramycin intravenously before (approximately 8 exacerbations of CF over the past 5 years) and she has used nebulized tobramycin on at least 3 occassions before with the month on month off cycle lasting for 6 months. Never before has she had any ill effects. The last time she was on tobramycin was 8 months previous and it was intravenous. I don't know if the absorption of the drug into the blood stream was greater as a fair amount lands in the gut as well as the lungs. I don't think there has been enough patient experience yet to make such a determination. My daughter is small, just about 100 pounds. Maybe a decreased dose might have avoided the complications. She certainly enjoyed the convenience of the TOBI podhaler at first, but after about 10 days of continuous nausea she was wanting to switch to the nebulized version. I hope this information may be helpful to someone.Read More Read Less
