My doctor gave me this medicine because I had a staff infection. This medicine is used to treat tuberculosis, I had all the side effects nausea, vomiting, headache, fever, muscle weakness, joint pain. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with renal failure. I only took this medicine for 3 days. It took me weeks to recover after I was out of this hospital. I would not every take or recommend this medici...

I was exposed to TB at some point in my career, but I'm not sure when. I found out I had LTBI (latent tuberculosis infection) through a physical for a nursing program. I have been tolerating the rifampin for the most part, but it feel like I have the flu all the time. I'm a newlywed who works full time and goes to nursing school full time. The flu symptoms definitely interfere with work and school, as well as my personal life. My joints hurt 90% of the time and if I don't take it with food it makes me sick to my stomach, even though it isn't supposed to be taken with food. My treatment is halfway through. I am counting down the days until this is through with.Read More Read Less

I had a few side effects that lasted 2-3 days such as a rash, headache etc. After a week or two into my treatment plan, there were no side effects. I would take the medication first thing in the morning. It has become part of my morning routine.

All I can say is yuck! I had a mastectomy and reconstruction and got an unusual bacterial infection, heavily Vancomycin Resistant. I've been on this with fucidin for about four months. It just makes me feel dreadful in the mornings - sick, lethargic, revolting, nausea, the works. This has not let up for a single day since September! That said my infection has closed and hopefully will not return. Be aware this reacts with almost everything - contraceptives, painkillers, most antihistamines. It turns tears and urine an orangey red colour. For me this can sting. Read More Read Less

Here again i was prescibed this drug without any of my drs having first checked that it would be in conflict with the methadone that i take for relief of cronic pain.it has only been four days that i have been taking the 600 mg tablet, however the side affects are the worse i have ever encuntered.so much so,that i had to be taken to the emergency room during the night to seek relief of the extreme pain and uncontrollable spasms i have been having. Unfortuneatly i didnt read about the conflict between the rifalin and my methodone untill i had taken another tablet.Since i havent had an hours sleep in the past 48, i am extremely worried about what i am to confront this evening. Lesson learned, don,t put implicit trust in your dr.take the time to do some research on your own.Read More Read Less

I took this for over one year, without side effects, also clarithomyocin and ethanbutol. I had to stop as I started to have violent reactions to this med. I stopped for 6 months and was told by my doctor to try it again. I started shaking, fever vomiting and sick in bed for a day. I will never go back on this medicine.

I was prescribed rifampin for MRSA infection in my nose..I originally got MRSA from an SSI from spinal surgery 5 years ago and it was I thought resolved until I had a nose infection in April where a culture showed MRSA..I was put on Rifampin Doxy and Mucipricin cream..I had to stop the Rifampin 600mg/day as my body and joints were in pain. I stopped the rifampin after 2 days Recently three months later I had nasal lesions again and the doc wanted me to do the rifampin, doxy and mucipricin again..this time I am on 300 day,,I started on 600 but the pain was so severe..I am now on day 5 of 300 mg and am miserable..joint paint plus I find out that rifampin interferes with uptake of opiate medication,,I have been on pain meds from my accident and surgery and I feel like i am getting no pain relief an my joints are killing me..I don't think I can take it for 15 more days..I am not sleeping and had to stay home from work, I am afraid to take it and afraid to stop..anyone have this happenRead More Read Less

I was hospitalized in 2004 with an enormously swollen eye and severe headache; otherwise I felt fine. An infectious disease doctor eyeballed me as he stood over me lying in bed, and diagnosed it as CA-MRSA. Community-acquired MRSA was new at the time, but I had zero risk factors for it. He put me on IV Vancomycin, Gentamycin, and 1 other antibiotic. Made me terribly sick. After 2 days a nurse said my preliminary test for MRSA was negative. I was getting worse and refused further IVs. Doctor resisted, but finally sent me home with rifampin. After the second dose, I suddenly felt like pins and needles were coursing through my bloodstream. It was so intolerable I wanted to go back to the hospital to be put in a coma. That seemed unlikely, so I considered slamming my head against the fireplace to become unconscious. Even in my incoherent state I realized I could do serious damage and still remain conscious. I paced and begged for it to stop. Finally the feeling abated, but returned as soon as I took my next dose of alprazolam (0.5 mg 3x per day). I had stopped the rifampin, and began to break the alprazolam into eighths, which lessened the pins and needles effect. I was unable to eat or sleep for 3 days. Everything had a horrid metallic taste. Finally the rifampin got out of my system, but I was in a fog for a while. My PCP sent me to an ophthalmologist who correctly diagnosed ocular herpes (HSV1). After nearly 10 years I still have some use of my damaged cornea, but much was lost due to the misdiagnosis and insistence of first doctor to treat me for MRSA even after testing showed it was not that. I am continually amazed that an ophthalmologist was not called in at the hospital since my only complaint on admission was my eye. Read More Read Less

Developed thyroid problems (nodule and goiter), kidney cysts and stones, liver cysts, breast cysts, exhausted after 3rd mo complete. Constipation(took miralax, helped) and took acidopholous to stave off yeast infections. So far ok on that. Hoping these clear up after done with meds for a while.

Side effects diminished when taking in conjunction with milk thistle! Also felt better to take in AM, 2 hours after eating. Drink lots of water all day! Think positive.

It worked very effectively combined with Bactrim DS two tabs bid along with Rifampin one cap twice a day to suppress a flare up of MRSA inside of my knee post knee replacement.I nver had open wounds or drainge assoc with MRSA. It has always been contained to knee and leg. I get severe pain and swelling of knee and leg. Aspirations of knee just show tons of WBC's and no bacterial growth even before the start of Rif. Last 3 aspir. showed 33,000, 44,000,&55,770 WBCs. Had knee replacement June 2007 and had to be removed secondary to MRA in sept 2007. After three more surgeries using spacer and IV Vancomycin for 4-5 months, had re-implantation of knee. No problems with flare ups until August 2010. At first flare ups were short and far between. As time went on, flareups became more severe and lasted longer and were more frequent. Ex, 8/10, 12/10, 1/11, 4/11, and 5/11, and presently, 12/11. This last one was so severe that Ortho. doc scheduled me for surgery to have knee replacement removed again!!! Luckily for me, each of those flare ups responded well to above mentioned drug regimen. This last flare up responded so quickly that both the ortho and infectious disease docs were extremely and happily surprised.Needless to say, my surg. was canceled. Side efects that I have experienced this time: yellow/orange urine, foggy head, and blurry eye changes which are quite annoying, and decreased appetite. I do not remember any of the changes with previous treatments except urine color changes. I would love to know in more detail what the eye changes are that are associated with the use of Rifampin especially since I will be on it for at least a month. I am a physician myself,(OB-GYN).Read More Read Less
