Here is my story with Avelox: There is no other medication that I have taken that has been so effective in knocking out infection quickly. This does, however, come at a price of side effects. If you EDUCATE yourself about this drug, you will know how to avoid some/most of these effects. This drug stimulates your central nervous system. Do not take in too many stimulants like nicotine, caffeine...
my mother had copd with a sinus infection and took one of these pills and died within 15 minutes.

My heavy chest cough began to improve just hours after my first dose. However, approximately 9 hours after my second dose, I began to notice some mood swings & a slight bitter taste in my mouth & back of my throat. This morning, after 3rd dose, my cough has not improved further, bitterness is worse, food & water don't taste right & I feel even more moody. I feel sorry for the numerous family members who will be near me today for Thanksgiving...I will not be taking any more of this drug. Thanks, WebMD & all those who've posted reviews. This site was very helpful & validating. Read More Read Less

I have taken this med before and it works but I feel that I should take it for 10 - 14 days because my sinuses always contain some junk and the longer it stays up there the greater chance of another infection; also after awhile it starts to travel South and I am always coughing up yellow to yellowish/ brown gobs of phlegm. It just nerver seems to totally clear up.

I have COPD and caught the flu, which went right to my lungs and left no breath sounds in my lungs. Within the first day of treatment, I found myself feeling a bit better using my nepulizer and Advair along with this medication.

This med has worked so fast for me!!! It was much needed. I felt better only a few hours after taking it, even though I had been stuck in bed 3 days prior to taking it. Only thing, a bit of dizziness and fast heart beat...

I've been on this once before and it was a godsend compared to the cipro and z-pacs i had always been stuck on. I'm allergic to penicillin so my choices to treat my constant sinus infections and subsequent bronchitis are limited. So far avelox has been the most effective and i feel relief sooner than the others. In all fairness though, i may be immune to the others. I was informed by my allergist, who also works for NIH, that this is the newest cousin of 'cipro' when i told him i usually got cipro. He said cipro is outdated and avelox is the way to go for someone like me. The only side affects for me so far are sleepiness and some diziness and i'm a fairly active mid twenties female at an average weight for my height of 5'9. I'd rather deal with being a little loopy for a week or so than to continue being miserable. My dosage was/is 400mg once a day.Read More Read Less

Ive been on this medication for 3 days. I'm feeling anxious, rapid heart rate, tired, lethargic, but like my heart is going to burst out of my body. The confusion along has made my life with home & work hard. I will be speaking to my doctor tomorrow about switching to another drug. I have been diagnosed with pneumonia, bacterial.

don't know if it's related but I ended up in the ER with Acute Pancreatitis shortly after taking my second dose. Five days in the hospital, and a multitude of tests later, they still don't know what caused it, but I know that I'll never, ever take this medication again.

I am half way through treatment. My staph infection is getting better, but the treatment is almost worse than the illness. It is hard for me to function for the first 7-8 hours after I take the pill. Nausea, dizziness, stomach pain. I am taking pro-biotics which help a little. I mentioned to my husband that I felt like what I imagine chemotheraphy might be like. Then I did research and found it described on another site as a "chemotheraputic drug". No wonder I feel like crap!

After 3 doses, I started feeling flushed and hot. I thought it was the prednisone, but suspected more and logged on to WebMD. I'm not feeling as poorly as most of the reviewers, but this is the most uncomfortable antibiotic I've ever used, and I'm very tolerant of most medications. The infection is breaking up, but I usually feel better than this by now.

Awful. This is the first time in my life I have actually went to a website to understand the side effects. I want to do this to warn others. Depression, mood swings, tingling rapid heart rate, sleeplessness... I have never been depressed and now I understand what depression is... I stopped taking it after the 9th day. The only reason I didn't stop earlier is that I wasn't certain why I was feeling this way because I was also taking a steroid with it.... My bronchial condition has not improved either. after reading the last seven reviews, I think I may have found out what is wrong with my 72 year old mother......she has confusion and is VERY unsteady on her feet. The memory loss is present...she too is scheduled for a CT Scan of the chest on Monday.....thanks for the knowledge...will recommend she be taken off ASAP.

Doctors and Pharmacists should tell the patient all side effects prior to prescribing this medicine. I experienced the side effects of depression, anxiety, rapid heart beat, confusion, and tremors within 4 days of taking this mediation. I am also told that these effects will remain until the medicine leaves my system in a couple of weeks. I needed to have known that this medication had these side effects. If I had not noticed that something was not right and traced the symptoms back to after I began taking the medicine, it probably would have killed me or at the least caused some sort debiliitating condition. I think this medication should not be prescribed to individuals who are not under the direct control and care of a physician and nurse. I teach for a living and these reactions to Avelox is impairing my ability to do so. Read More Read Less

I had severe reactions to this medication. I felt like I was having a stroke. My left side went numb and my legs felt like I had 50lb weights on them.I could not walk and was very confused. My arms were constantly shaking uncontrollably. This is a very expensive drug for 5 capsules, and I ended up having a MRI of the head and CT of my chest. It was very devastating for me. Once the drug gets out of my system, I should hopefully be back to normal. I have talked to a couple that this happened to her,but not to him. just be careful. Read More Read Less
