I had a colonoscopy on friday and drank the golytely the day before. It was a 4L jug and I was directed to drink 8 ounces every ten minutes. First thing I did was wake up early , mix it and put it in the fridge. They are right that it tastes better cold. I had it in there for over 8 hours. Used for colonoscopy prep. Worked well with no cramping, nausea or vomiting. It does have a bad taste. Best way to tolerate it for me was not to smell it while drinking it -hold your nose or what ever you need to do do while drinking it. I just held my breath and drank quickly. I wiped my lips with a wet cloth, and drank a mouthful of lemon ginger tea immediately after drinking and sipped on this during the 10" between cupfuls. To tolerate this every 5-10 years to initiate a good exam, for me, isn't a big deal. Hope this info is useful to someone. Read More Read Less

Copious amount of vomiting after the 1st half coming out my mouth, nose, and eyes, the same time as fire hose diarrhea out the other end. The worst experience of my life! Death would’ve been preferable. Whoever invented this should be shot for crimes against humanity.

Please do yourself a favor and ask alot of questions before using this product. As many, I was attempting to follow my doctors orders to start my prep for a colonoscopy that was to occur this week. Every single step was followed. I received the prep solution and followed the instructions. The bottle is a HUGE jug of salty tasting solution that reminds me of ocean sea water tasting. After finishing half the gallon jug as recommended, with great difficulty as the mixture is a gagging taste. After 1 and half hours, I experienced a bright redbeet color in my face, tingling, across my cheeks and lips and suddenly became violently ill, throwing up the entire half gallon. Afterwards, I did not experience any cleanse what so ever, making the entire process of fasting and drinking the solution worthless. Currently, I am still feeling the effects of feeling very poorly with less out put of urine and otherwise. I have contacted the company and received a less than sympathetic customer service report person who claims, all preps do similar, NOT TRUE. From what I learned there are many preps available to use, with different amounts of liquid, everyone is different and the effects will be different as well. I however, wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy, and the worst part my test was canceled and one that was very much needed. So very sorry, I ever was referred to this product. I've used this and other versions of the gallon from hell routine. Key is to keep it cold as you can get it. I did mine at 8 oz every 15 minutes and it went smoothly, it's really choking it down the last qt.

SO disgusting. Before starting this GALLON of it I read the reviews and thought oh come on it cant be that bad. It totally is. Very thick and salty. Exactly what I imagine it would be like drinking saline. Its horrible. It says to not mix it with anything but I tried anyways. It made it even worse than it on its own. Only thing that eases it ever so slightly is I had put ice in it to make it as cold as possible and the ice ended up melting before i got to it because its that gross i COULD NOT get 8oz down every 10min no matter how hard I tried. The melted ice made it less thick I guess but heaven forbid theres a next time I will def be asking for a set of pills instead. Aside from the taste it does do the job. Read More Read Less

I took this medicine before my first colonoscopy. I can't say it didn't work, but it was the most miserable night of my life. I actually did not find the tast bad, but something about the consistency, closest I can describe is ungelled gelatin, and it would go down, and come right back up. I pushed thru till it ran clear, but I was a blubbering mess by the end, and it took me from 5pm till midnight to get down 3/4 of the bottle. I couldn't leave the bathroom the whole time, and had to have a bucket next to me, as well as the toilet. I have had 2 more colonoscopies since, and I flat refuse to take this medicine again.Read More Read Less

I received instructions from Mayo to follow their instructions and not the instructions on the package. I'm glad I did, it was smooth sailing. My procedure is Friday. I did not eat anything solid on Wednesday or Thursday - and my Thursday night prep is no problem. I drank it at room temp and did not get cold, no nausea, and clear (yellow) water within 3 hours. Oh, and glycerine suppositories b4 the prep helped grease the pipes so no soreness. I drank 3/4 on Thursday night and will do 1/4 three hours b4 procedure. I recommend this product. I have had to take this on two different occasions. The first one was from being backed up and constipation. It certainly worked. The next time was before a colonoscopy. It did not come with a flavor packet and I didn't realize you could put Crystal Lite in it. Wow, all I can say is get some Crystal Lite and chill well. It took me four hours to down the bottle..mainly because I was on the verge of vomiting most of the time. I played a computer game to distract me from the misery. I had weighed myself right before the ordeal and afterwards when the toilet runs subsided, I had gained 2 pounds. Depressing to see after not eating all day! The rest was still coming out the next morning. Drinking 8 pounds of liquid however is just scary to me. So my tips are get Crystal Lite in flavor of choice, it probably would be better than what is supposed to come with it...find a distraction in between running to the bathroom.Read More Read Less

When it was time to drink the golytely I did two half glasses at a time. It was easier to gulp down. After the second glass I chased it with a juice box of apple juice (minutemaid kind). To me it tasted like bad tap water or water that has been sitting in a plastic canteen for too long. It took me almost five hours to drink the entire jug... longer than I wanted it to. At one point I put some Vick's vapor rub on my upper lip and near my nostrils so I was smelling that instead of the golytely, and I would also take a breath before drinking trying not to breathe through my nose thinking if I can't smell it than I can't taste it. Chasing it with apple juice really helped me the most though because it covered up the aftertaste. Drinking it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I wouldn't want to do it again anytime soon. At least now I know how to drink it without any gagging involved. I hope my suggestions on how to drink it might help someone else facing the same situation.Read More Read Less

I found it very difficult to drink so much liquid. It was not so much painful as extremely unpleasant, but at the last couple of glasses I was vomiting up bile. Frankly, I remember this as a horrible experience.

I developed a severe headache within two hours of starting this drug. It was not a migraine or due to dehydration. I kept myself hydrated knowing it was imperative to do so. In addition, I began having muscle spasms in my legs, back and neck. I also had severe dizziness. The headache lasted for two days after my procedure and the pain was a 9 on a scale of one to 10. Nothing helped the headache, including medicine given me at the procedure nor prescription meds my dr. prescribed. The muscled spasms continued for another four-five days. I was left weak for an entire week following the use of this med and had intermittent dizziness. I looked back at the ingredients of the prep and the flavor packet which was lemon. The flavor packet included maltodextrin and natural flavors. These two ingredients contain gluten. I am gluten intolerant. I realized then that I'd had an allergic reaction to the contents of the flavor packet. I was shocked that my dr. prescribed this particular prep. I was also shocked that the product didn't state that it contained gluten. As a general rule I don't eat things that are not labeled gluten-free. However, this being a prescribed drug and my dr. knowing I have an allergy to gluten, I trusted that it was OK. I will never use this product again. I suggest that the manufacturer indicate that it contains ingredients known to cause problems for gluten-sensitive people. Better still, why not try to use flavoring packets that are gluten-free?Read More Read Less
