I've been using Avapro for about 4 years with great success.

This medication appears to be designed for use by men. After reading all of the reviews this medication only works well for men (other then the ED)then for women, in general. There should be a BP med specifically designed for women with little or no side effects.

I had problems with side effects from other HBP medications, and finally my doctor put me on this. It works great for me, and I have no side effects. It's a bit pricey, though since it's still under patent. In other words...there is no generic.

I am 77 years old & had problems with every other blood pressure med I tried: side effects and no drop in BP. With Avapro I have had no side effects and BP is normal. I highly recommend this medicine.

I have taken it for years along with a water pill with no problems. I am switching to a less expensive similar pill to see if I get the same results.

I just got back on Avapro 150 (was happy with it for 5 years except for the price) after trying some less expensive Atenol, lisenaprol & benazapril which were much less $$ ...BUT HORRIBLE SIDE effects Inc Choking, heart flips, lethargy, panic and anxiety plus many more I would have said I was 100% Satisfied except having gone off Avapro and not taken anything for a brief perod because I did not have the $$.... I realized It does have side effects but mild compared to the others. If your not happy with the other meds this is a good one will also try the Lorsarten/cozaar after next Dr visit and once I get my BP Stablized again. I did notice with all of them I get digestive & sinus problems.Read More Read Less

Tried metropolol, lisinopril, first one made me so dizzy I could hardly function at work. 2nd one gave me a horrible dry cough, very irritating. Avapro 300 maintains BP very well, however, my doc also insists I take HCTZ 25mg with it and it causes my pulse to drop below 60. I live in very dry climate, thus this causes me to dehydrate even more with HCTZ and I drink a lot of water. BP still seems to go up a little at night. Should I ask doc to give me a 75 mg at night? Have been taking for over 5 yrs, and just recently started have aches in my legs right behind knee caps. Hope it isn't the med, cause I don't have any of the other symptoms.Read More Read Less

Since taking Avapro, I have terrible heel and back pain. Perhaps the worst symptom is this annoying dry cough. I feel tired most of the time and it is not very effective in controling my blood pressure which is 140/85-90 whenever it is checked by the doctor. And, now, insurance will not cover it.

Avapro has lowered my bp, but I work outside and have no heat tolerence. This is the second time around, same result but better than the migraines with last meds. And now I know why I have leg cramps!

I have been on this med for over a year, it is somewhat effective in controlling my high B/P the negative things are on the increase, very bitter taste, now experiencing acid reflux....possible gastritis, nausea, severe dizziness 1-2 hrs. after taking, unstable B/P...very low for few hrs.after dose then high again after 8hrs. I am asking my doc to change me to a different drug. My heart rate is also much faster than it used to be...as far as depression & fatigue goes...whom woudldn't be with these side effects.Read More Read Less

It appears that most everyone taking this drug has leg cramps, I live in a hot dry city and I too suffer leg cramps when I don't drink enough water. Not sure if Avapro can be blamed for cramps. Now lack of libido in men is that not normal for men who are taking BP meds? I find 1 300mg a day keeps my pressure under control. Also take 25mg HCTZ (thus necessary for even more water intake) Have suffered none of other side effects. I agree...we need a generic sooner rather than later. Insurance co are not happy with us taking this drug due to cost. I pay $42 copay for 1 month supply, mail-in a little cheaper, but not much.Read More Read Less

I am a triathlete(endurance sport) and have been using AVAPRO 300mg for 2 1/2 years. My BP is sometimes between 96/64 to 128/78.I haven't experience any side effects described by others except for my potassium level is two or three points over the limit, may be is the effect of sport drinks and the medication(increase potassium levels). Now I am worried because the University Hospitals Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute’ have studies about the use of angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs)that can increase the risk get cancer. Was on lisinopril and developed a very severe cough for several months. Went to Avapro and after 2 weeks started a dry cough again. Not nearly as severe as Lis... but a constant problem. Have developed pain in both knees with no injury to account for it. Maybe just age (71) Am going to tell Doc. I want another pill as I will not take these. Priced way to high.

Have noticed that legs are hard and swollen. Chronic constipation. Other medicines in this particular category also give me the same symptoms. It has helped blood pressure to stabilize, however.
