I got my first Depo Shot six weeks after my son was born. That was 14 years ago. I love not having to try to remember to take a pill and not having a priod. I go every three months and get my injection, I have even bought my own and had my husband do it at home. Absolutely no problems. I gained a little weight, but I am losing it slowly (5 lbs a year) I had a bone density test and I have the bone ...

DO NOT GET THE SHOT!!! I got it a week ago and not even 7 hrs later I began experiencing stiffness and pain in the joints of my hands and arms. About 1:30 in the morning I woke my husband up crying because I litterally could not move! The weight of the sheets on my upper body was causing extreme pain! I couldn't lift my head off the pillow or roll over on to my side. It took us close to 20 minutes...

I have been using the depo for a little over 4 yeara now, and I love it. But reading the ratings that other women have wrote, I am a little disturbed about the bone loss and other complaints. I also had no idea that it could possibly take up to 2 years to get pregnant after discontinuing the depo. I just got my shot last week. I am seriously considering discontinuing the depo. The depo is very easy to use, but I dont know if it is worth the long term hassle.

I have been taking depo for 5+ years and I think that it's great. I did spot rather continuously for the first year, but not having periods since has been absolutely wonderful. I wish there were a way I could continue taking depo and simulatneously conceive later on down the line :) . The only other side effect I have had is loss of interest in sex, although sex is stil as enjoyable as without depo, it takes more effort to become stimulated.

I've had terrible mood swings(almost everyday), no interest in sex, I've been on a lite period for 3months straight with no end in site, acne breakouts. My side effects are too severe to continue the contraceptive. I'm sure my husband thinks I've turned into a monster.

I had my first shot and experienced a 6 lb. weight gain in the 1st month and very moody. I was talked into this by my doctor. I have extremely painful periods and leg pain and she thinks I have endometriosis. The alternative is a hysterectomy.

The so call less severe side effects got me right away. Scalp hair loss, depression, abnormal sleeping, and others. It was great not have a period, but hair loss is not worth it for me. I didn'd go back for that second shot. Doctors done volunter any info any more you got to do the research yourself. unfortunatly I was to late.

I have been taking Depo for about 5 years. Overall, I have been very satisfied with the medication. I have experienced minimal side effects while on the drug. I have only gained a couple pounds over the last 5 years, and do experience some moodiness that seems extreme time to time. I do not have any periods, except spotting for 2-3 days around the time I am due for my next shot. I did have one bad time period where I was very emotional at the time I received on of my scheduled shots, and I spotted for practically the whole 2-3 months until my next shot. That was very frusterating, but only happened once. Other than that, I am very pleased with the Depo shot.Read More Read Less

It seem great at first - no periods, and its so easy to use - but after being on it for a while it started to mess with my moods, I was sad and depressed and crabby all the time. I also had mild hair loss, terrible acne and gained 10lbs. Not worth it in the long run.

Just so people know it has only been recently discovered that some people will have bone desity problems that take depo. I have been on depo for 15 years and I to was just told to go get a dexa scan and I was ok no problems if ostoprosis runs in your family it is advised to be careful taking depo. I have had no real side-effects to speak of I take depo due to a ovarian cyst that causes pain and bleeding. I have to say not having a period is a great side effect!

this birth controle worked for me but I was not aware that it could take up to 2 years to become pregnant . if I had been aware of that I never would have taken it as me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for a long time now and have been unable due to reasons associated with the depo shot .

I have been on the Depo shot for 6yrs now. Though I have experienced depression with taking it, that is no where near the depression I would have had had I ever gotten pregnant again..lol. I was on the Pill when I got pregnant with my daughter at 18yrs old. I have found that taking my vitamins on a regular basis does ease alot of the symptoms that may occur with the Depo shot, for me atleast. I have had the Bone Density test and it came back great. That's not to say it will next time, I do realize that. I think that this shot is wonderful...virtually no worries, in and out of the doctors office..it's great!!!Read More Read Less

As a contraceptive, "depo" is great. No periods, no pills, just a quick Dr. visit. The down side has to be the bone loss. After 5 years, I developed osteopenia and was advised to stop the depo. Please, please have regular Dexascans if you plan to start or are on long term Depo use.

I not only use this for BC but I also have endometriosis, so periods for me were horrendous. I love this drug I don't ever want to stop taking it. I no longer end up in such awful pain that I can't function anymore.
