My Mother just recently nearly died after using this drug nightly for stuffy nose, she has high blood pressure, could be from 35 years of using this stuff daily, her heart stopped and we came so close to loosing her, I thought she had stopped the use of Afrin years ago, was suprised to find she had not and in the end this was the reason for her near death experience. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT...

Stay away! This is the devils drug! There i was minding my own bushiness when a cold comes along. We always keep this demon drug in the house and i never suspected it could do any harm. I took it twice a day during my cold, but even after all my other cold symptoms were gone, congestion was still there! And it was getting worse. I researched it and as it turns out, Afrin is addictive. Very addictive. And the only way to get rid of it? Afrin. Ah yes a vicious cycle indeed. Rebound congestion is the worst congestion i have ever experienced. I have been usuing for around 2 or 3 months multiple times a day. There are people out there who have been using Afrin and Afrin like products for decades! Needing to take a hit multiple times per hour! I can only imagine what trying to quit is like for them! In severe cases some people need steriod injections into the nostrils to cure the addiction. Not to mention the song term damage to your nasal cavities! I'm in the process of quitting now. Cold turkey. I haven't used it in 36 hours and i wont go back because the fear of starting over is too much. I slept 1 hour last night. So far no improvement. And no other congestion remedies help. Not Sudafed, not a neti pot, not sinus massages, nothing. And believe me i have tried everything you could possibly think of. This should not be an OTC drug. Quitting is torture and i doubt i will be able to sleep for the rest of the week.Trust me don't get this stuff. Its evil. Just suffer through your cold and allergies for a few days. The congestion you feel is a a walk in the park compared to the rebound congestion of Afrin. No me gusta.Read More Read Less

I used Afrin Nasal Spray for a severe cold and it worked well but after using it one time I could not taste anything. It's going on two days. After reading several reviews on other sites there are many people complaining of the same issue, plus loss of smell. Very concerning.

I came down with a cold-type flu 10 days ago which was bad at first, then got better, but is taking a while to go away. Have taken Afrin 1-2 x per day since then without a problem. But suddenly this morning while at work I realized I was experiencing a fairly high level of anxiety. It's a weird, anxious in my neck and chest-type feeling. I first noticed this because while as I was doing my work I realized that I was doing some strange kinda chewing or swallowing-type behavior I found hard to just stop. (Luckily, I was talking off and on, so it was probably not noticeable.) it's hours later now and I'm still kinda anxious. Guess I maxed out my tolerance for whatever stimulant is in Afrin. Works so well I will use it again, but not for so long a time. Sudafed I have to be careful with too, because too long on that -4-5 days??- and I have a hard time sleeping.Read More Read Less

Every year in the month of march and october when the seasons are changing, i get nose bleeds. The weird part is, the blood does not come out of my nose, it stays in my sinus cavity and then drips into my throat causing a server sinus infection that has put me in the hospital 4 times do to my throat closing on me. The doctors given all kinds of medication that didnt work, and some just made the problem worse. One of my friends told me about Afin and how they use it when they have sinus problems. I was little hesitant at first to buy it. But I did. After the first time I used it, it cleared out my sinuses. I used it for three days and it was like I never had the problem in the first place. Afin has kept my servier sinus infections from making it to a servier sinus infection. This product works wonders! Read More Read Less

Tried a generic version of afrin and almost immediately I was able to breath out of my nose clearly. I'm very impressed because I can't remember the last time I had both nostrils completely clear (I have bad allergies as well as a deviated septum). I had slight burning in one nostril for about 15min after use and a little post nasal drip for about 30 min. Overall, i was extremely satisfied with the effectiveness. However, I would like to do a little more research on the side effects and any possible dangers of prolonged use simply because I heard negative comments about this drug from users on webmd as well as people I asked.Read More Read Less

I love Afrin. I have tried the oral decongestants and none of them work nearly as well as Afrin. I only use it before bed so I get a good nights sleep when I have nasal congestion. I am very careful with the frequency of use so I don't end up with the harmful side effects.

I lost my sense of smell and taste after using this product. There are dozens of other people who had the same reaction. I will be making a report to the FDA.

I always use afrin when I have a cold that causes me intense nasal congestion. Quite simply, it is the only drug that I can use that will allow me to breathe perfectly fine, and it works quick at that. Very effective at what it is used for. My reason behind 3stars for satisfaction is as follows. First off, the rebound effect, which is claimed to only occur if one uses the product more than directed or for prolonged use, simply isnt true. Trust me when I say, you will be spraying afrin again after the 12 hours is up, because going from breathing perfectly fine to stuffy within minutes just isnt comfortable. Bear in mind, I only use one spray per nostril in a 12 hour period, so the rebound effect isnt due to "overuse". In addition, it is a pain to get off afrin, even after the cold subsides, because it is hard to tell when the cold is over if your constantly feeling the effects of the rebound congestion! My second fault behind this product is the side effect of a runny nose. Maybe it is just me, but whenever I take this product, the first hour or so is simply splendid, and then after that I end up having to blow my nose at every hour due to runny-liquidy nasal discharge in my nostrils. Again, a pain. So overall, id say this product is awesome and recommended. It is effective, but do beware the side effects before using. They can, at times, be more irritable than the cold itself.Read More Read Less

I got a prescription for the maxiumum strenghth Afrin. It stopped my nose from running and being stuffy, that was great, however, after a short while the inside of my face felt as if it were on fire. The back of my throat, the back of my nose, and all down the back of my face where the medicine had dripped was burning for hours. Even after I had feel asleep I was awakedned by burning burning pain. I will never use this product again, I would rather have a stuffy nose.

I used the extra moisturizing version for the first time today b/c i was congested and felt severely dried out in my nose and sinuses.. well i put 2 sprays in each nostril like the box said and immediately it felt like the inside of my head was on fire... this went on for hours and it still aches, also it makes me feel very anxious.. i can breathe easier, however i ended up leaving work early because i feel so terrible.. i would not recommend this to anyone

This should be prescription only. I didn't follow the instructions and used 1 light spray/day for years, thinking the only reason to not use it ongoing was the rebound effect, which I never had with light use. Not true, I developed atrial fibrillation that increased in intensity and duration causing one hospitalization. It took me years to identify the cause. Now I'm ok with saline rinse twice a day with my ongoing allergy prescriptions spray (Nasonex). NeilMed sprays are easier to use than neti pots. It was hard to quit: headache and stuffy nose for a couple weeks. You need the saline rinses to quit. Read More Read Less

Works almost instantly for me. This is the only OTC medicine that will relieve my nasal congestion. I've tried Sudafed and don't have any results with it.

I used Afrin for 2 days and ended up in the emergency ward in the middle of the night with severe hives and a swollen mouth. I know it's rare, but it happens.
