I was prescribed methenamine 1 gram twice a day for UTI prevention by my urologist. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me at all since I still got frequent UTIs while taking the drug. Worst of all, after taking methenamine with no problems for over six months, I suddenly developed sharp stomach pains/cramping and an itchy skin rash. Needless to say, I stopped using methenmine. Even so, it took...

I have had interstitial cystitis for 22 years. The pain is similar to a UTI. I have had 3 urinary infections during my life span. All of a sudden, I am allergic to antibiotics that I've never been allergic to in the past. Recently, I've had 2 UTI infections and am now allergic to Cipro, Levaquin, Z-pacts, and Macradation. Went by urologists to do another urine test and was put on this drug. I have taken 2 pills. I am praying this does the trick, but was told by doctor's office that I will have to take this the rest of my life. For me, the co-pay was a little much, but I'm on disability. These reviews have filled me with hope and I'm so glad people have taken the time to post it. God Bless, all!Read More Read Less

Mom (88+ Years) has been plagued by UTIs (various bacterial forms) for over 6 years. We could not stop them with other antibiotics (stopped for a few weeks and then had another one!) We used UTI Stat as well. Changed toileting hygiene methods. Still got UTIs. THEN her new urologist (whose praises I cannot sing loud enough!) put her on this medication. Mom has been UTI clear for over SEVEN months! This is a record for her. We are so grateful that it works. We also continue the UTI Stat. Her doctor said it doesn't work for every patient, but we are both so grateful it works for her. Read More Read Less

I'm a 60 year old female who at age 57 starting having recurring UTI's. I NEVER had a UTI prior, no lifestyle changes, and I have to assume it was hormonal /chemical changes following menopause. After an average of four UTI's per year for several years, I went to a urologist and was prescribed Methenamine Hipp. At first, taking the prescribed two (2) pills per day, caused burning, and I couldn't drink enough water in a day to properly dilute the drug. Then I switched to one pill in the morning, and I'm five months UTI free. The drug manufacturer should note on the prescription that the amount of water (4 ? 6 ? 8 ? glasses ??? per day) is critical to the effectiveness and side effects of this drug. The label instruction to "drink plenty of water with this prescription..." is NOT very helpful. I'm relieved with the results, and don't have to worry about UTI's all the time. Less physical and mental stress worrying about getting a UTI at the worst time. Read More Read Less

I have suffered from frequent UTIs for over 35 years and was prescribed methenamine by my urologist and it's helped immensely! Have become resistant to many antibiotics over the years, but taking this along with Vitamin C, I no longer worry that I'll be getting a UTI-any time now-as I did before! I have had no side effects from this drug either. My urologist did say I may still get a UTI once or twice a year, but that beats once or twice a month!! This drug is a life-saver!

I am 74yrs old and have UTI since I was 17yrs old. I've been on every antibiotic there is. Finally, my husbands urologist told me about this. I was taking 4 a day and I was free for the first time in years. Then I started slacking off of it to 2X's a day and it came right back. Now I'm fighting another one and back to 4X's a day. None of the doctors and urologist in my area had ever heard of it. When I ask them about it they have to look it up in their medical book. I would like to tell everyone about it. Also, my insurance covers it and my co-payment is only about $3.00. Read More Read Less

I am 74 yrs old and have had UTI's for many, many years. This med is the only one that has helped me and believe me I've tried tons. My husbands urologist is the dr that told me about it. I have told 2 Urologist 1 GYN and my primary and no one has even heard of it. I would like to take an add out in the paper to give people the relieve that I finally have.

My husband had a stroke 7 years ago, and was suffering frequent, and severe, UTI's. Finally, he was put on this drug. He has been on it for at least 6 years consistently and the results have been great! No UTI's!

I was getting UTI"s so often that I was becoming resistant to antibiotic's. I ask my DR. what they used before antibiotics because this is common in older women. He had to asked older doctors but this has been a life savor. In 4 yrs. I have not had one UTI. I think all women with chronic should be on this,so they will not become resistant to antibiotics.

I started taking this medication since 4/23/13 and as of today's date, it seems to be working well. After another 2 months, I will let you know if any reoccurrence has happened on the UTI's. My problem is making sure I take it at the same time twice a day. Some days it is hard to jive the times. Even with a phone alarm for notification to take the pill.

I have been on this medication about 4 months. It has worked perfectly. But in the last month I have developed what look to be small hives. I am wondering if they are a side effect of this medication. Has anyone else had this problem. I have never been allergic to anything in my life.
