I was prescribed methenamine 1 gram twice a day for UTI prevention by my urologist. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me at all since I still got frequent UTIs while taking the drug. Worst of all, after taking methenamine with no problems for over six months, I suddenly developed sharp stomach pains/cramping and an itchy skin rash. Needless to say, I stopped using methenmine. Even so, it took...

I had so many UTI's that I was becoming antibiotic resistant. I was given this to sterilize urine. works great. no more resistant to other antibiotics. no more UTIs.

Have been on Tamoxifen for 2 years and had 2 UTI's 4 months apart. Should have gone to the Urologist the first time. Anyway, turns out that Tamoxifen makes he bladder ruffled instead of smooth and the bacteria hides out. Have just switched to Arimidex for the next 3 years so I don't know how long I will be on this drug. Go back again in 6 months for a checkup. So far, so good.

I take two tablets of Cystex (contains 162 mg. of Methenamine) at night and it seems to have helped the recurrence of dreadful UTIs.
