I began taking Synthroid for my hypothyroidism. My TSH came down, but my free t3 levels remained low and I was still having many many symtpoms - hair loss, extreme fatigue, swollen eyes and feet, muscle aches, depression....on and on. My endocrinologist added Cytomel to my treatment & it has been wonderful!! I am not completely symptom free and I know I need a slight increase in meds, but the chan...

I have been taking this pill for 3 weeks now and I have not seen any change. I have not lost a pound. I am very disappointed. I have gained weight since being on synthroid and though (as the doctor)I might loose something being on Cytomel. NOTHING!!! Maybe I haven't been on them long enough but...

I have been on Synthroid from 150mcg to 100mcg for 15 years after my thyroid was removed.I never felt good, overwhelmingly sleepy, weepy,Very poor memory, blurred vision. When I got warning at work for poor performance I had to act. I conviced my Dr to put me on combined Syntroid 75mcg plus cytomel 5mcg.My blurred vision lifted instantly,Unfortunetely my sleepiness did not. After 1 month I split the cytomel in half and take it twice a day and this works better actually I never felt so good in 15 years. It wears of though. When I started cytomel I had headache and higher blood pressure, insomnia for several days but it lessened now.I just wonder whether decresing the syntroid did the trick or adding cytomel.I still need to tweak this dose till I find my optimum. But believe me I am so thrilled to feel so much better after 15 years of being told that my numbers are ok but not me.It is more likely that the cytomel does that because when I take my second dose at 2 pm I feel really energized at 4pm.It would be great if somebody could develop symptom online forms we can fill linked to doses of synthroid and cytomel. I realize that we have this TSH ranges because we are all different but this will certainly help. I hope sharing my experience helps somebody. Read More Read Less

After years of feeling slugish and over all like crap the doctors thought that maybe my thyroid was to blame. Mind you this was all after a full hysterectomy. The doctor stated me on synthroid, I was so tired I was falling alseep all the time even while driving. the Docters kept upping my dose with no real luck. Then I saw an endocrinologist who felt there was mor eto this then what meets the eye. He put me on cytomel 5mcg 2 times a day in combonation with my synthroid. I do not feel like I did before all of this but I sure feel 110% better that I have in a long time. Read More Read Less

I had my entire thyroid removed and was on cytomel....loved it!!! After radiation I got put on snythroid......hated it, tired, didnt feel like doing much. I got switched back to cytomel and feel like myself again. Im in the gym 3 days per week for an hour and 45 minutes. Although I am having a hard time losing the weight I gained, it may also be my calorie intake.

I had my thyroid removed in 1991 & had total hysterectomy in 1995. In 2008 I after being frustrated with only Levothyroxine treatment started Levo. with Cytomel. Started on 100 mg Levo. w/5 mcg. Cytomel. Feeling improved but not as good as I know I could. Maybe I will try 75 or 50 mg Levo. and 10 mcg of cytomel. My big problem is no metabolism left-I had hoped Cytomel would help with lossing a few pounds. Maybe I just need to adjust my dosage. I am 5"8" and 163lbs. Used to be 145lbs.

Immediately after thryroid removal as a result of cancer, I was put on Cytomel. I felt very good, lots of energy, but was told by my followup Endocrinologist that the long-term effects of this drug was not known; the long-term effects of synthroid was. I began to get "draggy" on synthroid and continue to be. I would like to be put on Cytomel again. It's great when you feel good and no one knows that but me, myself, and I.

I've only been taking Cytomel 25 mg q.d. for 2 weeks and was told it would take some time to get in my system. I do not feel any different than I did before starting the Cytomel. I am still tired all the time, I have noticed acne on my face, chest, and back which I never had a problem with prior to using Cytomel. At times I feel dizzy and feverish. I am going to stick with the 25 mg per day and see what the doc says at my next appt in 2 wks. For those of you who have been on Cytomel for some time now, how long does it take for you to notice significant changes overall???Read More Read Less

I really can't say that it's helped me overall. The blood tests say it has, which is great. My endocrinologist has prescribed this for my T3, and also said it may help my energy levels. She's said that about my other thyroid meds, too, but none of them - including this one - has affected my energy. Oh well.

I was prescribed this medicine to help out depression meds. Then when I got off, the thyroid was not working well, so I got back on. I was then prescribed double the dose I had been taking, and felt good all the time I took this dose. Then I was told that I was overmedicated, and was prescribed a very low dose of synthroid, which hasn't made me feel nearly as well as the cytomel did.

Love this med. I have had hypothyroidism for many years. But I never felt myself. I am in my 50's now and told the doctor I was tired of being tired. My brain fog was getting worse. I ached all the time. I just felt that my chemistry was not right. He put me on Cytomel and I got immediate results. My aches and pain are gone. I feel more alert. Love it. I also take Levoxyl for the thyroid. The combination of the two has given me my life back.

After being starting on Cytomel I have felt horrible. The Dr started me on 75 mcg right off the bat and my body, after 1 1/2 weeks, did not respond well. I ended up in the emergency department with a racing heart, sweaty, higher bloodpressure, nervous, anxious, crying. The doc in E.R. thought that was way too high of a dose just to start on. She said they usually start low and work your level up as the weeks go by. I don't want to take it anymore, but they had me stay off of the Cytomel for 2 days and now starting me off at 25 mcg per day. I hope this works cause I can't go through that again...I FELT HORRIBLE!Read More Read Less

I was put on cytomel after having cancer and the thyroid removed. I will have an RAI scan in a few weeks to see if all the cancer cells are gone. Since on the cytomel, I am very tired, all my muscles hurt, I get headaches, even more sleepless than before and am somewhat quicker to anger. I have to stop cytomel in one week and then go on a low-iodine diet for two weeks, then the RAI scan. I was told I would need synthroid for the rest of my life, so I don't know why (if at all) I would take the cytomel as well. Given the way I have felt since soing on it, I hope not.Read More Read Less

I had to get off synthroid and go on cytomel for a R-131 full body scan after thyroid removal because of cancer. I love it. I keep weight off easier than before.

I am impatient enough that I did not like the wait between taking the medication and eating breakfast, but the medication, given time, worked wonders at restoring my energy and reducing many of my related symptoms--however, the medication caused a persistent, intense headache which only stopped when the medication was stopped.

I feel much better when I take Cytomel 1 hour before eating or drinking anything else. Cytomel is blocked from getting into your system, if taken with vitamines & some foods! If I run out, I feel tired, fatigued, and not like myself. It does take a little time to get out of my system or a few days to kick back in. I also take Levathyroxine along with cytomel & have had good results with my energy level, sleep, mood, and sex drive. I have gained 50lbs.in 2 years, that was 5 years ago, then lost 20 last yr. only to find out my thyroid tests had gotten much worse from dieting & exercise. Taking away from the body, only makes the disease worsen. Its not worth my health, just to look better for others! & I am a Salon Owner, that is in the publics eye all the time! Sometimes we learn hard lessons! I remember taking diet pills all the time when I was young, in my 20s(at about 125 lbs). I was always worried about looking fat!!!! Now I wonder if this is the price I have to pay at 40, for the stupid pills that probly screwed up my Thyroid! Read More Read Less
