After having taken Maxalt 10mg for over 8 years, my insurance company decided that I should start taking a generic. The patient info sheet listed a lot of ingredients that I do not eat or am not normally exposed to. I had no choice but try the generic. I had a difficult time opening the wrapper with a migraine. Once open the pill did not immediately dissolve. I had to take a teaspoon of water in m...

I have had migraines since I was 13 and have tried quite a few meds. This is better for me than Imitrex, which does very little. Like all of these meds, I have to take them as soon as I notice the very first sign of an aura. One dose does very little, so don't expect one pill to work the magic. Someone else mentioned tingling - it is true, this medicine makes the tingling/numbness in my hands and face worse. Great at controlling the vomiting, although you are still going to feel woozy. I also take Advil with this medicine. Read More Read Less

I have been talking Maxalt for years and recently switched over to Rizatriptan. It works pretty well, I do feel like it takes a little bit longer to kick in. For the bad migraines I also take a Naproxen with it and that helps a lot. I overall tolerate medicine very well, so I have not had any side effects. I do sometimes have a "high" after taking this medication but it's hard to tell if the "high" is from the meds or that my body is so happy to not be in pain anymore. Overall I like it and find it very effective. Read More Read Less

this worked great for my migraines, one pill does it all HOWEVER, I now have tingling in my toes and front part of both feet all the time. was originally only when I took the drug but have been off it for months and has not changed condition. so, if you get this side effect while on it, don't listen to your doctor - get on something else. they are still trying to determine if its permanent nerve damage or not!!!

The medicine only lasts 12 hours at most, then another pill is required.

Just like Laura (below), generic rizatriptan does nothing for my migraines and it's a challenge (putting it mildly) to open the individual packages w/o scissors. I tried it soon after it became available as an alternative to Maxalt, but I now use only Maxalt. It works, but not as fast or effective as zolmitriptan (generic Zomig).

I have taken maxalt for years and it works very well. I have been disappointed with rizatriptan. It doesn't seem to work as well for me. I'll be asking my dr to go back to maxalt.

This tablet works for me in just over an hour. If not taken, the migraine becomes severe.

My migraine was worse. I felt nauseous . Knocked me out. Felt a little better when i woke up but not much and I think it was just because I rested. Not worth it for me. Not taking this again.

Works great at defeating migraines, but the migraine will return in a week or two, so I now get more migraines per month than before. Medication makes me extremely drowsy & out-of-it...ok if you don't have to do anything or go anywhere. Serious side-effect was drug-induced hepatitis. My liver swelled up to twice the normal size and the liver doc ruled out all other causes. To be on the safe-side, get blood work done regularly to make sure all is well so as to avoid permanent liver damage.

Our insurance company no longer allowed the brand name Maxalt, which I had used for years, so I was forced to use Glenmark Generic's rizatriptan. When I took the first pill, within 20 minutes I knew something was wrong. Chest pains so severe, with sweating, and severe vomiting began immediately. Long story short, I suffered a heart attack as a result of Glenmark's medicine. I reported it to the FDA and to Glenmark. Never heard back from either organization. I did not suffer any permanent damage, but now, I have to report this on any medical information for the rest of my life. I will no longer take any triptan meds to treat my migraines. Only makes me drowsy for 1 to 2 hours. If I take it and my headache is actually sinus instead of a migraine, I will have no side effects at all, not even drowsiness.

I've been on Rizatriptan for over a year because of menstrual migraines. I think I have a 50% success ratio. Sometimes I'm relieved by 2 hours and other times there is no rescue. This may be due also to what day I'm in my cycle. But I now know to be careful of rebound headaches with Rizatriptan. There are months when I'm taking it every 12 to 24 hours. I need to avoid this because I'm probably giving myself another headache as soon as I get some relief. I find the packaging fine, not very problematic. I was on Maxalt for a short time before my insurance insisted I use the generic. I use Rizatriptan because it is the only triptan that has been somewhat successful. I've tried around 7 triptans in the last 10 years. Read More Read Less

The package is impossible for someone with a migraine to open!!!!! I've had to get help every single time. It takes well over 2 hours to start working (compared to brand name Maxalt mlt at 15 minutes) and doesn't take the headache completely away - even mild migraines, and for severe ones it doesn't work at all. I generally feel hangover-y for up to 2 days after taking it, and that never happened with Maxalt mlt. I will pay full price for the brand name in the future.

My head hurt so bad today that I wanted to cry. From my temples to the base of my skull, with nausea... I felt miserable. I didn't take the time to read the instructions before I swallowed 1 tablet (not sure if it was supposed to be swallowed, or allowed to dissolve?), but it worked fantastic, & very fast! :-) Within 10-15 minutes my head was feeling almost 100% better. I used to take Treximet, which also worked very well, but it took between 30-60 minutes to kick in. As far as I'm concerned, this medicine couldn't have done a better job; I am amazed by how fast it worked! 5 stars!! Read More Read Less

The patient info sheet listed a lot of ingredients that I do not eat or am not normally exposed to. I had no choice but try the generic. I had a difficult time opening the wrapper with a migraine. Once open the pill did not immediately dissolve. I had to take a teaspoon of water in my mouth to get the pill to dissolve. After about 15 seconds the pill quickly dissolved and that is when I ran into problems. I gagged and found my self over the trashcan with dry heaves. I started sweating and my breathing sped up like I had just finished running a mile. My headache became unbearable and I could not bare the pain in my head. The pain was so intense I swear I could hear the sound of my eyelids when I blinked. I was in bed for 4 hours before I could function enough to go to the fridge for a drink of cold water. My headache is still here after 3 days with no signs of letting up. I will never take this drug again. Read More Read Less

I took Maxalt MLT for 10 years, and it was amazing, though very expensive. My migraines were gone within 10 minutes and never came back the next day. The only symptom was lightheadedness for a couple of minutes, but not severe at all. I was fully functional for the rest of the day after taking brand name Maxalt. I was very happy when a generic came out, Rizatriptan Benzoate by Glenmark generic, but it has turned out to be terrible. It takes a little bit longer to kick in, and while it temporarily relieves my migraine symptoms, I become very sleepy. I usually fall asleep for 4-6 hours when I take one (after having had a full night's sleep), and the one time I was able to stay awake, I was slurring my speech, very tired, and my coworkers said I sounded drunk. Long story short, I am not functional when I take this medicine, and some of the side effects are as bad as the migraine itself. When I know I have to take it, I leave work immediately and go home to take it so I can fall asleep. Another problem with the generic is that my migraine keeps coming back for several days, so I have to keep taking this very expensive generic (it's $30 per pill vs. $35 for the brand name) for several days in a row until the migraine stops coming back. I'm going to discontinue using the generic and go back to paying full price for the brand name Maxalt.Read More Read Less

Makes me sleepy but this drug works wonders. I used to throw up if I had my sumatriptan without food but now I can wake up right away in the morning and take rizatriptan (dissolvable kind) and feel great within a couple hours. Best migraine treatment I have found yet. Take with Aleve to keep away repeat headaches and reduce inflammation.
