Norman H. Edelman, MD

Norman H. Edelman, MD, is vice president for Health Sciences and professor of medicine at SUNY Stony Brook University. He is also Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the American Lung Association.

Edelman is a member of the Association of Physicians, American Society for Clinical Investigation, American Federation for Clinical Research and the American Thoracic Society. In January of 1990, he was appointed to membership to the National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians.

A former member of the Editorial Boards for the Journal of Applied Physiology and the American Review of Respiratory Diseases, Edelman has published extensively in the field of pulmonary diseases and control of breathing. In 1990, he was named recipient of a MERIT award for the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He is the author of the American Lung Association's Family Guide to Asthma and Allergies.

A graduate of Brooklyn College, Edelman received his MD degree from New York University.

Edelman has appeared on a number of national news programs, including Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Dateline NBC and MSNBC to name a few. Several major newspapers and wire services, such as USA Today, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Reuters and the Associated Press also have interviewed him.
