This woman is truly crazy if she thinks bipolar is the same as diabetes. I have a nephew who was diagnosed with diabetes I at age 3. I am 55 and am on disability and have severe bipolarI with rapid cycling. I can cycle 4 times AN HOUR. Diabetes and bipolar are VERY DIFFERENT but at least he is a happy person. I am 40 years old - I was diagnosed Bipolar II about 3 years ago. I have been on so many medications and was resistent to Lithium. After the initial tremor subsided I have been happy with the results for over a year now. There has been some weight gain, but it's worth it for a peaceful mind. After trying several SGAs,depakote, tegretol, and neurontin, and still having instability I finally learned to accept lithium as the one thing that keeps me the most stable. I was resistant to lithium but in spite of weight gain and flattening of emotions and some foggy thinking, it works best as far as helping me keep my job and getting along with people.
