I took St. John's Wort against my medical doctor's advice. He wanted to put me on an antidepressant due to anxiety and depression. Within a short time of taking SJW I started to feel better. My depression and anxiety were non-existent but he didn't feel it was the SJW that helped. I stopped taking it after several months and slowly but surely started to feel the depression and anxiety again. ...

I used tinctures in juice, per label instructions. I tried two 1 oz bottles of this and I didn't see any noticeable difference in my depression. Went on prozac and I did see a difference. I've since gone off prozac and have found that outdoor exercise, lots of fruits and veggies, getting a steady job, and california poppy were all effective too.

I started taking adderall this year without the knowledge that it majorly depletes your body of serotonin. I started experiencing extreme anxiety and depression. It was the scariest time of my life. I started taking 300 mg of St. Johns wort and 100 mg of 5-HTP three times a day and it has literally saved my life. I don't have anymore anxiety and my depression has diminished. I quit adderall 3 months ago and i've been taking SJW and 5-HTP for a month now. I highly recommend this to anyone suffering anxiety or depression.Read More Read Less

I took St. John's Wort for 3 years for mild depression and it worked wonderfully!! Things got real tough a few years ago and I let a doctor talk me into taking a prescription anti-depressant. Anyway, I have been through about 4 prescription antidepressants and NONE have made me feel as good (mentally) as when I was on St.John's Wort! Right now I am trying to "taper" off my current med (Effexor XR) and get back on SJW. The drug companies hate St.John's Wort and tried to fight its FDA approval. That fact alone should tell you how effective this herbal remedy is!! Read More Read Less

I always had to take paxil if i wanted to feel better.. my overall problem is anxiety.. so from this i tend to get obsessive and paniky. From this i felt a mild depression. I started taking sjw three months ago, and it helped lots i felt happyer with energy. Helped me with my therapy. This disorders dont go away with any medication, most of the work it has to be done by us. But sjw helped me so much!! I will never go back to paxil. The only side effect was sensitive to sun, have to protect my self ,sunblock,hats,umbrellas... but its ok. I have leared in the bible that Jehovah God, will take away our tears from this problems. When I take this I get extremely nauseous for the first 20 minutes or so, then it goes away. Also, my eyes are more sensitive to bright lights throughout the day, but nothing some sunglasses can't help. Overall, I have noticed a significant improvement in my mood stability, and my mood swings are less severe. They haven't gone away completely, but you can definitely notice a difference, even those around me have noticed.

I have used St. John's wort on and off for mild depression. It seems to work about as well as Prozac did for me. It is cheap and non-prescription, and I am uninsured, so the easy availability is an important factor. Exercise and a healthy diet help too.
