I started drinking senna tea for the relief of constipation which began towards the end of my junior year abroad in Italy. It initially helped but then my constipation got worse so I started drinking more tea, and at first it helped. But then it got worse again and this spiraling pattern repeated itself again and again. My doctor never said anything about senna tea only being a short term treat...

I take Smooth Move tea and am very happy with the treatment. I've tried every prescription and non-prescription medicine to help with severe constipation and this is by far the most effective and gentlest. It doesn't make me bloated nor give me sharp cramps like so many laxatives. Some tips: 1. Take at night to produce bowel movement first thing in morning. Be prepared for several movements throughout the morning. Mine typically ease up by lunch. 2. To avoid nausea, chills, fatigue, cramping, etc, drink plenty of water. It also helps to drink an EmergenC or some other form of electrolytes right after or before your bowel movement. Dehydration causes all those nasty side effects so keep yourself hydrated and your electrolytes up. 3. Be sure to take your probiotic to replenish the healthy digestive bacteria again. 4. Avoid spicy foods, fried foods or anything particularly rich while on senna. Stick to bland foods that your stomach can easily digest. Remember, the senna works because it's irritating your stomach/colon lining. Don't add anything to the mix that will further irritate it.Read More Read Less

I have IBS, started taking Organic Smooth Move tea with 1080mg of senna once per day after dinner. It works when I get up for work, sometimes I have to go a couple more times in the day. Very loose stools. Some cramping before it hits. Worth it!!

I have just discovered the wonders of Senna tea - it works like a miraculous charm. Sometimes I get slight stomach cramps, but nothing major (and the end result is definitely worth it). However - only use ONE tea bag - I thought I'd be clever and brew a double-strong cup, won't be doing that again (I'm currently using Alvita, which is just plain senna leaves - I will soon be trying out tripleleaf bc it's flavored better and includes other stomach-soothing herbs like ginger). You should probably drink a few cups of water before or after too, couldn't hurt. Read More Read Less

After eating homemade bean tacos/burrito's for several days with all the trimmings I was plugged up big time. Nothing helped me. I ran across senna leaves in a health food store that I worked in and tried them. I don't remember how many leaves that I used maybe 6 but I brewed them in some strong coffee. Getting past the nasty taste was the hardest part. The mixture worked like a charm. Some intestine pain but well worth the suffering to get things moving again.

I had occasional problems with hard stools and tried all the over the counter medicines like dulcolax, miralax, philips milk of magnesia etc. Only Milk of magnesia provided some relief and all others did not work. Fortunately I found this Yogi Senna tea bags and I tried one tea bag and was amazing. What a relief, pooped 3 times loosely in one day and that never happened in last 1 year. Next day onwards, my stools were normal and was easy to pass. Its been 3 days now. I hope I do not have to use anymore.Read More Read Less

I have been so constipated, I haven't pooped for 6 days and I bought a "SLIM DIETERS" tea from the local asian market. It worked like a charm. It sure did clear me out and I had no abdominal pain. After drinking a cup, I will not go anywhere that day and have to be near my toilet, but it is well worth it to get rid of the constipation!

I took my first two tablets of Senna before going to bed and I ended up with terrible Tinniyus and still as constipated as I was before taking the pills.

I have taken Senna in pill form off and on for years to treat occasional constipation and bloating with excellent results. But the last couple of times it has resulted in huge headaches, extreme weakness and severe malaise. I feel so awful even though my symptoms are totally resolved. It never used to affect me this way. First, rocky stool elimination, then a very soft, large stool, then diarrhea. But the headache and general flu-like side effects are horrible. Maybe I am getting older and have less potassium. Not sure, but now I don't know what to take because it works so well. I will lower the dose next time.Read More Read Less

I had constipation for weeks when I was put on an anti-anxiety medication (very low dose). I tried bran, prune juice...I'm a vegetarian, so I was also eating plenty of veggies. Nothing. I decided to take senna in a tea (Smooth Moves). I drank a pot (2 bags' worth) at night, and the next morning woke with pain in my lower back and abdomen. I had a moderate bowel movement, went to work, had another cup, and had a large, very soft bowel movement that became diarrhea. I feel non-bloated for the first time in weeks. However, I've been feeling very tired, spacey, and headachy- so I'm happy with the results of the tea, but I'm going to watch my dosing to see whether I can avoid the side-effects, which aren't pleasant. I just want to lie down and pass out.Read More Read Less

I Drank a tea with Senna in it and it worked as far as making me go to the bathroom, however, the side effects are not worth it. I have a terrible cramp in my stomach that comes and goes all day, i have had this feeling for 3 days now. I have a constant headache and I feel very weak. The first day was the worst, I was completly out of it and in pain. Now its day three and I have not taken the senna since monday and I am still in pain! I will never take this again!

The tea worked very well ( smooth move tea) I drank at night, in the morning I experienced a ripping pain sensation, ran to the bathroom, produced massive very soft stools. However, I had severe chills and nausea and a very bad headache. It felt like a bad hangover that lasted all day - finally subsiding around 4pm. I have used the tea several times , not always with the "hangover" but always experienced the ripping pain sensation before going. I have now deduced that it is the senna leaf causing the headache and nausea, a person who performs colonics told me that the senna leaf causes irritation to the intestines. I think it is way too strong for me. I am not going to take it again. I don't care to be sick all day long with a hangover that I did not deserve!Read More Read Less

Just curious... I'm near the end of the bottle of colon detox I got at the drug store (pill-form, senna leaf powder) and with the last couple doses, I've had pretty bad chills. I'm not finding any information about this being a side-effect, anywhere. I'm slightly concerned, but not overly worried, as the chills subside within a couple hours... Has this happened to anyone else?
