Many cancer survivors talk gratefully about the friends they met in support groups for people in treatment. Having emotional support from people who understand the struggle firsthand can be a lifeline. Groups meet online and in person so you can find support where you need it most. Sometimes, finding a support group is as easy as taking a trip to the doctor.

Whether you're a patient or a caregiver, chances are the people in the waiting room of a doctor's office are there for the same reasons you are. You could pass the time during a long wait by chatting with the other people in the room. They'll understand the stresses of cancer treatment better than anyone else. The conversation could be a pleasant diversion on a stressful day or the beginning of a real friendship.

We want to know if you've ever started a conversation in the doctor's office. Did you stay in touch with the people you met there?
