It's important to know which allergy medications interact with certain other medications is because you might end up having a compound effect of basically doubling the side effects of certain medications.

I usually tend to look for the drowsiness first, but there are other things, like, allergy medications do. Like, they can tend to dry you out, tend to get dried out and lose fluids, can mess with your electrolytes. It's a whole run of thing if you're not careful with what you pick.

When I'm counseling a patient or a customer on allergy medication picking something, things I tend to check is their age, their conditions. Like, the main two I look at are high blood pressure and diabetes because some allergy medications are liquids and they got a bunch of sugars in them, so that can mess with your sugar levels which also could lead to some problems.

Certain allergy medications like decongestants can raise your blood pressure. So you definitely want to talk to in your health care provider and let them know whether you're on any kind of high blood pressure medication just to make sure you're OK to take a particular allergy medication.
