Carolyn Crist, Author at WebMD

Carolyn Crist is a freelance writer for WebMD. She writes about a variety of health and medical topics, including recent research and consumer trends. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked on WebMD’s daily news team to provide updates about the latest numbers and developments worldwide.

Her work has also appeared in Medscape, MDedge, AARP, Atlanta Magazine, Georgia Magazine, Parade, Reuters, U.S. News & World Report, and Wired. She has spoken at conferences for the Association of Health Care Journalists and American Society of Journalists and Authors.

Crist has a master’s degree in health and medical journalism from the University of Georgia, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UGA. She has also taught journalism classes at UGA and a podcasting course at Emory University.

She co-authored The New Science of Narcissism, a book about the latest research on narcissism across business, education, and politics — and of course, social media. The book aims to dispel myths about narcissism and offer tools for dealing with behaviors on all points of the narcissism spectrum.

In 2017, she spoke on the TEDxUGA stage about “ditching the 9-to-5 life” and becoming an independent writer who works remotely. She now serves on the TEDxUGA advisory council and enjoys speaking about work-life balance, messaging, and media trends.
