David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM

David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, is associate clinical professor of epidemiology & public health and medicine, and director of medical studies in public health at the Yale University School of Medicine. A board-certified specialist in both internal medicine and preventive medicine/public health, Katz has 15 years of clinical practice experience. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College, his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and his MPH from the Yale University School of Medicine. He was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Preventive Medicine in 2001 and was voted onto the boards of the American College of Preventive Medicine and the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine in 2002; he leads committees for both organizations.

Katz founded and is director of the CDC-funded Yale Prevention Research Center, where he serves as principal investigator for numerous studies related to cardiovascular risk modification, obesity prevention and control, nutrition effects on health, behavior change, and chronic disease prevention. He is also the founder and director of the Integrative Medicine Center in Derby, Conn., a clinical facility in which conventional and naturopathic medicine are blended to offer patients the best of both, generally with a strong emphasis on nutrition and nutrient therapies.

Katz' work and expert opinion have been cited in numerous publications and he has made many radio and TV appearances. Katz authors a weekly newspaper column on preventive medicine in the New Haven Register, a leading newspaper in Connecticut. He serves as consulting nutrition expert and columnist to O, the Oprah Magazine.

Katz has authored numerous scientific papers and chapters and has authored or co-authored six books, including Epidemiology, Biostatistics & Preventive Medicine; Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine; and Nutrition in Clinical Practice. His most recent book is The Way to Eat.
