Kerry K. Assil, MD

Kerry K. Assil, MD, is regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts in refractive surgery, having made significant advances in the field with his numerous inventions. Additionally he has the unique distinction of having trained thousands of eye surgeons in the latest refractive surgical techniques. Dr. Assil has authored more than one hundred textbooks, textbook chapters and articles on refractive surgery. He has served as editor and reviewer of multiple scientific journals, and appears regularly on all major television network news programs as a pioneer in refractive surgery. He also leads educational forums for other eye care professionals, which have included featured lectureships at Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and Tokyo University.

Since 1990, Dr. Assil has invented or pioneered numerous refractive procedures, including the Intrastromal Corneal Ring (ICR), combined technique RK, Phakic IOL, and myopic and hyperopic LASIK. In 1992, the International Society of Refractive Surgery honored Dr. Assil by naming him as the youngest member of its Board of Directors. Eye surgeons travel from around the world to have Dr. Assil perform on their eyes.

Currently, Dr. Assil is the International Medical Director of Aris Vision Institute and Medical Director and CEO of The Sinskey Eye Institute in Santa Monica, California. In his free time, Dr. Assil donates his surgical talents to the Southern California Lions Eye Institute and to several other charitable organizations.
