Michael J. Holtzman, MD

Michael J. Holtzman, MD, is the director of the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine, the Selma and Herman Seldin Professor of Medicine, and professor of cell biology and physiology at Washington University School of Medicine.

As an expert medical reviewer for WebMD Health, he evaluates a sampling of asthma articles to ensure our content reflects current medical standards of care and is accurate and balanced. Holtzman is also an editor of the section on Respiratory Medicine for WebMD/Scientific American Medicine.

Holtzman graduated from Northwestern University before earning his MD at Northwestern University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center and his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco.

Since 1987, he has been an attending physician in internal medicine and pulmonary and critical care medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with additional certification by the Subspecialty Board of Pulmonary Disease, and is a member of the Association of American Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
