Sol Gordon, PhD

Sol Gordon, PhD, received his doctorate in psychology from the University of London. He served as chief psychologist at the Philadelphia Child Guidance and the Middlesex County Mental Health Clinics. Gordon taught at Yeshiva University and Syracuse University where he was professor of child and family studies and founding director of the Institute for Family Research and Education (1970-1985). Gordon is a professor emeritus, with a distinguished career as a clinical psychologist and sex educator. Upon his retirement from Syracuse, Gordon was a fellow of the APA, a member of the National Council of Family Relations, American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and SSSS.

Widely known for his work in clinical psychology, Gordon is a popular lecturer on topics such as sexuality, family studies, relationships, and suicide prevention. He has received many scholarly awards, including the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) Award. He has appeared on such television programs as Oprah, Today, and 60 Minutes, as well as many radio shows. He has published more than 100 articles in professional journals and has authored a number of books including How Can You Tell If You're Really in Love?, Why Love is Not Enough, and Raising a Child Responsibly in a Sexually Permissive World. Gordon resides in Chapel Hill, N.C.
