Charles D. Kay

Charles D. Kay is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Wofford College. He has served as president and vice president of the South Carolina Society for Philosophy. His philosophy teaching curriculum includes several courses on ethics, including, Bio-Medical Ethics, Ethics and Business, and Principles of Ethics, as well as a course in the Philosophy of Science. He also presents lectures on medical ethics at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and since 1993 has served on the Mary Black Hospital IRB and Ethics Committee.

Kay has been named to Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. He has taught at the College of Charleston, Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Pittsburgh. He received his AB degree from Princeton University, and M.A. and PhD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He served as first chairman of the Spartanburg campuses of Habitat for Humanity and several years has taught "Building a Better World," which involves students in volunteer work through Habitat, Total Ministries, the Soup Kitchen and other area projects during the Interim term. In 1994 he coordinated a two week seminar funded by the Knight Foundation, titled the Many Cultures of Science. Through the study of texts by C.P. Snow, T.S. Kuhn, Evelyn Fox Keller and Paul Feyerabend, the seminar addressed the significance of the division in academia between science and the humanities.
