Charlotte Huff started her career at newspapers, reporting about medicine and health policy on the metro staff of several dailies, including the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
For more than a decade, she has freelanced full time from Fort Worth, TX, writing primarily long-form features and trend pieces for some three dozen publications, including Health Affairs, KFF Health News, Nature, Slate, STAT, Texas Monthly and The Washington Post. Some of her favorite stories: the science of lightning injuries; emerging research to make dialysis treatments more portable; and the struggle to keep hospitals and obstetrics units open in rural Texas. Huff has won various awards, most recently a first place in trade journalism from the Association of Health Care Journalists.
Huff grew up on the East Coast, studying political science at Wellesley College. She later earned a Master’s degree in journalism from American University. She’s moved a lot since for work: South Texas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and a stint in Madrid on a journalism Fulbright.
She lives with her family and two yin and yang cats in a Craftsman bungalow home in a walkable historic area of Fort Worth. Along with reading and traveling, she’s working on improving her Spanish and always looks for an excuse to make a break for the beach.
