If I get the vaccine, can I stop wearing a mask? For now, you'll still need to wear a mask even after vaccination. The reason is the primary goal of vaccine trials has been to see whether trial participants become sick with COVID-19. It didn't test everyone to see about asymptomatic infection.

So we aren't sure that if you get the vaccine, that you still can't catch the virus, have no symptoms, and still spread to other people. There is some preliminary data that suggests the vaccines might prevent that type of spread, but we probably need a few more months of data to know for sure. I got the vaccine recently, and I'm still wearing a mask.
