I took this for complex partial seizure. After taking Tegretol (general) for about 2 years, I still have blank stare sometimes, so Doc. switched me to Tegretol XR(extended release). I am taking 200mg X3 per day. It is more effective in controlling the blank starring and gradually the zombie, lost of words and out of reality feeling were all gone by now (it's been more than 2 year now on extended r...

I was on this drug for 19 years. It was of no benefit to me at all. Even though the seizures wasn't so frequent, i still had very bad side effects which included depression, hypothyroidism, agression, irritability and hullucinations. I thought i was going mad. When i came off the drug and went on to another, i very much improved. The side effects have gone. My new drug is leaving me seizure free. ...

I was prescribed Tegretol XR for Trigeminal Neuralgia 100 mg. 2x day, most of the pain was in my head with tingleling numbness on one side of the face, which was relieved, but after six weeks I had an allergic reaction and broke out in a rash. I recently stopped the medication to see if the rash will clear up. I had reduced the dose to 100 mg after three weeks because it made me feel "dingy" and I couldn't think straight.

I found this drug fantastic, I was having combined visual and auditory seizures every 30 minutes and lasting for up to 5 minutes, within 3 days of being diagnosed and treated for Epilepsy 4 years ago my seizures stopped and have been almost seizure free for 4 years and when I do have them its only about once a year lasting a few seconds and only a tingeling in my hand though I still have full function with happening.

I had my first seizure after a car accident in 1975. I was on anything and everything for seizures. When we moved to Colorado in 1997 from Maryland and found a rural doctor who was quite knowledgeable of seizures he changed my meds to Tegretol and took me off of 4 other meds. I have been seizure free for 12 years using Tegretol (brand only). Currently using a maintenance level of 400 mg per day. Tegretol has left me with no side effects. Stress level is very low here in the mountains - which helped my blood pressure, anxiety, etc. Read More Read Less

Have had epilepsy 52 yrs., since I was 4. Have been on numerous meds over the yrs. Topamax being the absolute worst. This works for my seizures, but I'm so tired I can't hardly function. Bruises like crazy. Go to the Dr. soon, will see if he will change it.

Since my first grand mal seizure, 12 years ago, I was put on Tegretol. The only time my seizures weren't in control were when I was trying to go off the medication or simply forgot. I never have a worry while taking this.

After being tested by primary care physician, & being referred to many specialists, & having an MRI of her brain, plus 24-hr monitor of body systems.. tegretol XR at 400 mg was begun. My child of nearly 18 finally exp. the ability to get 8 hours of sleep, in a row! She has been having "fainting" spells throughout the day, which were really episodes of seizure - every time, when "tired," or sleepy - since she has not been entering REM sleep, nor had a reg sleep cycle for ?years. After only one wk, this med seems to be the miracle worker, for her. Thank you - A relieved MomRead More Read Less

Though suffering from seizure disorder, there is also a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia related to this ongoing condition. There is always fear of all medications in this situation. There must be an ongoing commitment of allowing the patient to understand the difference of this tegritol compared to previous tegritol without xr affixed to it.

They think I had partial/complex epilepsy all my life but a head injury (and post truamatic stess) brought it on at about 13yrs of age. My neurologist was a moron who would not even consider any other drug and kept me on this for yrs. When I finally got a new neurologist we changed meds and tried several different varieties until we got it sorted as best we could. I don't remember any side-effects but I was very traumatised when I began taking it. As for the effectiveness - forget it. What a complete waste of timeRead More Read Less

I suffered with trigeminal neuralgia for a few years before my doctor tried this drug for me. I took a little time to get the correct dosage, but it has been wonderfully successful in relieving my extreme pain.
