I have been taking Marcrobid for years and I do not experience any major side effects. I may occasionally experience softer stools but that's it. Within 12 hours of taking this medication I feel 100%.

I rarely, if ever leave a review for much. But after my experience taking this antibiotic, I am going on as many sites as I can to inform others about this drug. I was prescribed 100mg of Microbid every 12 hours for 7 days for a UTI. I am not sensitive to antibiotics I have taken in the past, i.e. amoxicillin, Cipro, Z-pack. However, this antibiotic made me feel awful. I didn't see any change ...

This antibiotic is great. I get UTI's often and have tried several different antibiotics and this one works the best and I experienced no side effects. My symtoms go away after just one day. (No more using Azo Standard-yay!) I like that you only have to take it twice a day. Very convenient to me.

I began taking Macrobid after the culture came back saying the original med prescribed wouldn't work. I developed a high (103) fever, couldn't take a deep breath, had zero energy for about four days. Called the pharmacist to describe my symptoms and she thought it was a reaction to Macrobid- went back to doctor and he thought it was delayed reaction to Bactrim (the original antibiotic). I took the last of the Macrobid, then was told to start taking the Bactrim again for the viral infection they thought I had. Ended up with a rash all over my legs that itched terribly about a week after I stopped taking Macrobid. Was prescribed low-dose Macrobid by gyno for after-sex use- took one and had the horrible joint pain all over again. After reading reviews here, I'm convinced it was a Macrobid reaction (both times) and that perhaps I'm NOT allergic to Bactrim after all. Too bad about Macrobid- I've had 7 or 8 UTIs in the last seven months. If I keep developing allergies to antibiotics, where will I be...?Read More Read Less

Have taken Macrobid many times for recurrent UTIs and would recommend it to anyone. Only problems experienced were nausea when not taken with food and the occasional diarrhea.

I was one of the rare few who developed unusual muscle weakness along with severe leg cramps, lower back spasms, tightness in chest etc. I have never had a reaction to an antibiotic in my life. This was horrible. I would suggest taking your first dose at home and with someone there. I had no idea this was going to happen to me.

Upon taking my 3rd pill for UTI I had terrific chest pain, abdominal pain, and upper back pain. The pain was so severe that I thought I should go to the ER. I have never had a heart attack but if it feels anything similar to the pain that I had, I would not recommend this medicine to anyone. The pain was about a level 10.

Was given this as a prevetative after having a cystoscopy for persistent hemeturia without UTI. 2 pills a day for 5 days then 1 a day for 14 days. After 3rd day I developed what I thought was spring time allergy; runny nose, cough, fever, aches, etc. Took last pill last evening and this morning have a rash all over my feet and ankles moving up my legs. Fever has been as high as 102. I was ready to go to ER to get a chest x-ray and make sure no pneumonia but after reading this site I may need to get prednisone or other for allergic reaction. Am allergic to penicillin/amoxicillin and now apparently this as well. Can't say about effectiveness as this was simply for a preventative measure. Thanks for all of the input.Read More Read Less

I took this pill for 3 full days -- 3 full days longer than I should have. I felt overly fatigued and when I tried to get up and/or go out, I had an extremely elevated heartbeat, would get lightheaded and dizzy, and started to have tunnel vision. The symptoms did go away within 12 hours of when the last pill I took should've been effective till. I will never take this medication again. Just reading the side effects, I have to wonder what is in a medication that makes it cause lung disease if it is used long-term. As someone with asthma, I double-checked with two different pharmacists to make sure I could take this medication at all without any harm to my lungs and they said I could because it was only prescribed for 7 days. Though I didn't have any immediate breathing issues, I had acute asthma issues less than 2 days after ending the medication.Read More Read Less

This antibiotic was prescribed for my 8 year old child - since the liquid suspension form costs $481 out of pocket & she had no insurance, the physician changed it to capsule form. The inside (crushed) of the capsules tasted horrible (mixed with moist food like pudding or applesauce.) The drug caused side effects, THUS FAR, of diarrhea, nausea & neurological problems. My child has since been treated in the ER TWICE for NEUROLOGICAL SYMPTOMS associated with this medication!!! These symptoms include severe, sudden onset of headache, numbness & tingling in the arm & hand and blurred vision/partial blindness in one eye, again with a sudden headache. The first ER physician advised to stop this medication & said it was likely to blame. Her liver count & glucose levels were quite elevated as well. I hope the damage I've seen is temporary - PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN GIVING THIS MEDICATION TO PEDIATRICS PATIENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!! We will NEVER, EVER use it again!Read More Read Less

After third pill I was sicker then with UTI. Severe headache, backache, nausea, high temp of 103. Couldn't get out of bed. Felt like I had been beaten. Bad effect wore off after about 24 hours of last dose. I won't ever take this medication again.

I've taken Macrobid for frequent UTI's. I've also taken Cipro a couple of times, but Macrobid was always my and my dr's drug of choice. I never had any side effects until my most recent infection. I am now allergic to Macrobid. Rash and itching on neck, shoulders, etc, all those lovely unlikely side effects. I will always be a proponent of Macrobid for UTI's, just taking too many times may create an allergy?!

Experienecd severe dizziness, nausea and fatigue - I could barely get out of bed and when I did I staggered around as if I were drunk. Couldn't make it past the third pill. Even taking it with food didn't help with the stomach issues. I will never take this again.

I have to admit after reading the reviews I was terrified to take this stuff. I did take it though and I am glad I did. It worked well for me and I had no side effects. I was on Cipro before this one and it didn't get rid of the infection but gave me a yeast infection instead.

I was scared to death of this medicine after reading the reviews--but took my full dose (7days) without any side effects. It has been one week since finishing dose--UTI is gone and still no side effects. It worked great for me.

Took Macrobid for one week to treat mild urinary infection. Took almost two weeks for symptoms to clear up. Experienced intense diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomach pain & nausea, low backache chills & sweating, exhaustion. Cipro cleared up worse infections in 3 to 4 days. I cannot recommend this drug.

This drug should be taken off the market! After taking only the 2nd pill, I had extreme muscle/joint pain, fever, chills, dizziness, nausea, headache with this medicine. It made me very sick.

I took it for a UTI and i broke out in hives after using it for 6 days, and had to hospitalized for one week. Furthermore, my liver was damaged from its effects on my body. After a month and a half I'm feeling better, but what an ordeal. We should file a complaint with the FDA, because there are so many other better treatments for UTI, and besides I found out through medical advise that this drug is outdated.
