I have been taking Marcrobid for years and I do not experience any major side effects. I may occasionally experience softer stools but that's it. Within 12 hours of taking this medication I feel 100%.

I rarely, if ever leave a review for much. But after my experience taking this antibiotic, I am going on as many sites as I can to inform others about this drug. I was prescribed 100mg of Microbid every 12 hours for 7 days for a UTI. I am not sensitive to antibiotics I have taken in the past, i.e. amoxicillin, Cipro, Z-pack. However, this antibiotic made me feel awful. I didn't see any change ...

I suffered a severe headache for 2 days while on this drug. I thought I had a migraine. About two weeks later, I broke out in hives which were releived by a steroid shot. However, two days later I broke out in a severe rash over my entire body and my eyes were practically swollen shut. I've had two more steroid shots, am taking oral steroids and am on THREE different antihistamines. My hands and knees are swollen and my skin is extremely sensitive to the touch. Although this drug cleared up my bladder infection wonderfully, I have never been so miserable in my entire life.Read More Read Less

I was instructed to take Macrobid twice daily. Within an hour of taking the first pill, my legs were cramping, my head was spinning, and I was extremely weak. My legs felt as if they were going to give out when I walked and I had to use the wall for support. This occurred again after the second dosage. I called my doctor the next morning (after waking up with swollen eyes), they advised me to stop taking it immediately. I'm not sure if it cleared up my infection at all though, I only took it for the one day.Read More Read Less

This was my second UTI in 6 months. SO, my gyno put me on this medicine...I woke up with a full body rash. My arms, legs, face, neck-pretty much everything but my feet-broke out within two day. I stopped the meds two days ago and am still waiting for the reaction to subside. But, it did get rid of the infection.

Don't take this medicine if you can avoid it. I took a day's worth 1 1/2 days ago. Severe dizziness, heart palpitations, nausea and feeling like I had to vomit. Called my dr. who would not believe me. If any medicine makes you feel worse than actual illness, something is not right. Trust your intincts.

I thought I was dieing on this medication. Took it for almost 2 weeks before I figured out the drug was the problem. Tongue was swollen, mouth and teeth went numb, bruised all over, stomach hurt so bad I could hardly walk, night/day sweats, nightmares, dizziness,oh and don't forget the severe headaches, back pain, fever, chills, nausia, vomiting, increased heart rate (over 100) blood preasure 159/118 and weakness. I could go on but I think you get the picture. My Doctor made me feel like I was making this stuff up and told me I needed to see a Dentist and he thought this was a dental problem (I have perfect teeth by the way). I have the greatest faith in my Doctor but it was somewhat disconcerning that I had to figure this one out instead of him. I first got a UTI a week and a half ago and my doctor started me on Bactrim for 3 days. I felt fine after I finished the bactrim, but woke up Monday morning with the horrible UTI feeling again. I went back to the doctor and she prescribed me the macrobid. I took one pill Monday evening and decided to get another one in before bed. That was was a horrible idea to say the least!! I took both a\pills about 5 hours apart from eachother and it may me so sick to my stomache. I was honestly on the verge of vomiting at any moment. I called my doctor and she said to wait for an hour and if the symptoms do not let up then I need to go to the ER. I felt so much better after the hour! The next day, I didn't start the medication until the last time I took it the night before. I took the pill and has no symptoms at all. I took another one this morning and I feel fine. A bit of diarrhea and tiredness, but I can deal with all of that. I still feel a bit uncomfortable in that are, but I assume it's because I just started taking the medication.Read More Read Less

My mother only took this drug for 3 days and I believe she was very close to death. She was very sick at her stomach, which increased over the course of 3 days. On the night of the third day she woke up gurgling and could not breath, she could not get up and had to be lifted off the bed, she also wet the bed. Her symtoms went on stopping the medication. I have no doubt it was this medication. So, if you decide to take this med, good luck. Also, My brother-in law took it and he said he thought he was going to die!Read More Read Less

I get a lot of UTI's and my doctor prescribed this medicine for me once a day for a month. The whole time I was on it I had no problems, but as soon as I went off of it I had another UTI a few days later.

The drug made me severely nautious. I could not even get out of bed without feeling like I was going to vomit everywhere. I only took it for two days and I was miserable. It worked good but I couldn't deal with the nausea.
