I have been on Solodyn 7 months for the treatment of PLEVA. I am starting to question the side effects. For the last two to three months I have been dizzy and feeling"out of sorts" along with blurry vision, headaches, and recenlty muscle aches. I recently read that this drug was tested by the FDA for a period of 12 WEEKS. Is there any info on the long term effects????

My daughter was told to be put on solodyn (65mg)as of today. She has a very very slight case of acne. We were just going in for a facial wash if that. After reading all the bad side effects of this, there is NO way I will put her on this medication. There is hardly anything on her face to begin with and for our Dermo to put her on such a messed up medicine, No Thanks. So I want to thank all of...

My skin cleared up so perfectly. My dermatologist wanted to put me on Accutane but I saw too many bad reviews on it so the next option was Solodyn and I do not have one complaint on it. Works perfectly, clear skin again! Yay!

I took this medication for only 8 days. On the 6th day my scalp was extremely itchy but I didnt expect it had much to do with the Solodyn. Next day same thing with on and off headache. By the 8th day my body began to break out in severe hives. I called my derm and they said to stop the treatment. 9th day I awoke to shortness of breath, extreme hives, went to ER my BP was very low. Benadryl did nothing for me. I was given a mix of Benadryl, Pepcid, and Prednisone. 6 days off the meds and I am not in much better condition. Obviously an allergic reaction but I also have a thyroid condition and after lots of research, this medication is not a wise choice for someone with an autoimmune disease. Please check it out before taking it!Read More Read Less

This medicine actually worked quite well for my acne. I actually had beautiful skin. However, through the fault of my doctor I guess, I was kept on it longer than the standard three months (almost 10 months) and started having serious problem like joint pain and swelling that led to a false positive for lupus. I stopped taking the medicine and then I improved and didn't have anymore symptoms. By all means take this medicine, it does do its job, however watch the time period that you take it for.Read More Read Less

I've been taking this drug once a day (before bed) for about 1.5 months. I receive laser hair removal from my legs, so 10 days before my appointment, I stop taking the drug, then continue it after my treatment (doctor approved). I seem to have an upset stomach the day I start the drug but that is about all... No dizziness either. My Acne has reduced by about 95% with the occasional 'small' one, but it goes away very quickly. When I started seeing my doctor, I was hoping I wouldn't have to take a pill everyday for my Acne.. but it came down to that which is why I said 4/5 stars of satisfaction. This drug does not help with blackheads.Read More Read Less

After using for a couple of weeks I started noticing joint pain in my fingers wrists arms, toes, ankles and decided to discontinue use. It became so bad I could hardly lift my arms or open a water bottle. I reported to my dr. Who informed me I was having very rare side effects with lupus like conditions and told me not to take it anymore. I also has itching on my head face and my lips but with no rash. Hoping the pain subsides soon.

No more Solodyn for me, no thanks!! This product has so many side effects, it will get you dizzy for like 3 sec every time you make a fast move (get out the chair, car or bed), it will get you angry and cranky (my friends noticed that a lot), ladies: your period cycle will get messed up (instead of regular 5 days, it may be only 2 days). The worst side effect is you will gain weight, (I gained 8 pounds). I have been on Solodyn for 5 weeks, after all these side affects I had to stop, and throw it in a trash!! Now everything is back to normal. The only product I am using is Astralin Gel. It is the BEST acne cream you will ever use!! My acne is almost gone. You just have to be patient (2-3 months), it is expensive cream, but worth every penny))Read More Read Less

I took solodyn for three weeks. On the third week I broke out in red dots on my chest that don't itch or hurt but end up developing white heads that I can pop. I stopped taking the drug and am now on birth control, but it has been over a week and I still have the rash and it has now made its way up my shoulders. Somewhere I read it happened to someone else too and it took weeks to go away. Hoping that's the case for me too! However, on the third week I did notice my breakouts were less and since stopping it I have started to break out again. Read More Read Less

I have been taking the medication for a little less than a month now. It seemed to be working, but very little. I would't wake up with any more acne so thats good, but just 2 days ago something has been happening. I have been getting severe hives. They itch and burn very bad and it is not tolerable at all. Easily the most pain I've ever experienced. I believe it is an allergic reaction to the medicine.

I have been taking this medicine for almost 3 weeks now. The first week, I actually looked pretty good. I didn't get any new breakouts until a week ago, when I got my period. It was terrible! I have gotten a huge cyst on my chin and many smaller zits all around my lower face. My period has been gone for 4 days, but I am getting new pimples almost everyday. Just yesterday, I got another cystic pimple (although it isn't red so maybe that means the medicine is beginning to work) right between my eye brows. Beautiful. I was really hoping my face would be clear by homecoming (one week from now) but I guess I'll just have to cake on the make up. Also, the pimples I'm getting seem to linger longer than they did when I wasn't on the medicine. It's very upsetting...I've been crying a lot and fighting with my boyfriend because I don't want to see him when I look like this and it hurts his feelings that I'm avoiding him but I don't really have any other options. I'm hoping that this is just the medicine pushing out all the bad stuff first but I thought that the initial breakout would've been less than a week after taking it and wouldn't have continued for 2 weeks...oh well...I'll try my best to stick it out for the whole 3 months but if it keeps getting worse everyday then I don't think I'll be on this medicine long. As far as side effects go I've really only experience slight stomach cramps on occasion. I'll glady trade acne for stomach cramps. I really hope this stuff starts working soon because acne (not to even mention my existing scaring) is kinda ruining my life. Read More Read Less

Solodyne can cause vasculitis | 45-54 | Female | On medication for 1 to less than 2 years | Caregiver

My daughter took 55mg solodyne for almost 2 years, it cleared her acne at first, then it would get worse if she discontinued solodyne. After a year and 1/2, she developed tingling in her hands and feet, a number of rashes, pain in her body. 3 trips to the er, a neurologist, a rheumatologist, and a muscle and nerve biopsy, she was diagnosed with vasculitis. This drug was the culprit and it almost killed her. She had large doses of prednisone and 4 rituxan infusions, and she is still recovering after a year of fighting the effects of this drug on her body. It is well documented that some people can have this reaction from LONG term use of minnocylcline. Don't Take Any Chances on Solodyn! Read More Read Less

I took Solodyn for about 3 months and it made such a difference. Before i took this i would wake up with a new pimple everyday. i will admit that this pill did not start working until the last month i was taking it. but it was so worth it. i can finally stop worrying about having to wear makeup to even go to the gas station. i am so much more confident. i just got off of it for about 4 days now and i already broke out. so im going to ask my dermatologist if i can be on it longer. but overall, if youre willing to be patient and consistent it WILL work!Read More Read Less

DON'T TAKE THIS. I took it for a a year and a half and it helped a little, but it literally caused me to become depressed. I went to a private high school, was captain of the soccer team, had good grades, friends and a really cool gf and I couldn't figure out why I felt depressed all the time. I stopped taking it after 1.5 years and finally stopped feeling depressed. The drug suppresses hormones causing overactive oil glands (what cause acne, and can obviously suppress endorphins (or other hormones)that make you happy. DON'T TAKE THIS. Read More Read Less

My 17 yr old has been taking this for a month now. Her acne problem is on her back, not her face. This pill hasn't seemed to make any difference. I'm not sure if we should get another bottle and try it for another month or not. she has complained some of having a light head ache..

Im 15 yr old female & been on solodyn for 5 to 6 wks now. Within 2 to 3 wks I noticed the cystic acne (painful very stubborn under the skin acne) had cleared up. My face seems to be healing. Still had a few breakouts when my period came but these breakouts go away within 1 to 3 days as before solodyn they seem to never go away. As for the side effects...a lil tired & my chest broke out in lil red bumps (maybe hives) other than that so far so good. I have tried many topicals & other pills with NO help, this is the only med that SO FAR is working for me. We will seeRead More Read Less

I've only been on solodyn for two and half weeks therefore I can't write a complete review but I will share my experience so far. I've always had acne prone skin but at 16 I started taking BC and even though I broke out it wasn't terrible. Due to other health issues I had to stop using my BC and my skin not only broke out in cysts but it also became very dry and itchy. I finally went to the dermatologist and I was prescribed this along with spironolactone. Within two days the cysts that just sat there for months finally started to heal. I have had a few more pimples these past couple weeks but they're clearing up faster than before I started this regimen. My skin is also a lot smoother and its not oily, at all. My skin has never had the perfect balance between oily and dry but it does now. I'm confident that in time my skin will clear completely. It does make you dizzy, so stay hydrated. I took Solodyn for one week to try it out, because acne medications have never worked for me in the past. I am a very active 21 year old female, and I rarely get sick or hurt. A few days into taking this medication, I began having severe lower abdominal pains, nausea, and slight chest pains. The stomach pains were so bad that they kept me up at night, at which point I felt like my heart was skipping beats. I thought I was going crazy, but after reading the possible side-effects of Solodyn, I realize that it caused me to have an irregular heart beat. During the worst night, I considered going to the hospital, but I had a college sports tournament to play in the next day, and I didn't want to miss it. I assumed the symptoms would clear up during the daytime. On the ride to the tournament, I experienced severe nausea, dizziness, and anxiety. During the tournament, I broke my foot and sprained my ankle. I have never been injured like this in my life, and have never broken a bone. It may be a coincidence, but I'm assuming (worst-case) my accident was related to this medication. I'm so glad I stopped taking Solodyn before I ended up with irreversible symptoms. DO NOT TAKE SOLODYN! It cleared up my skin completely, but it is NOT worth it! Read More Read Less
