I have been on Solodyn 7 months for the treatment of PLEVA. I am starting to question the side effects. For the last two to three months I have been dizzy and feeling"out of sorts" along with blurry vision, headaches, and recenlty muscle aches. I recently read that this drug was tested by the FDA for a period of 12 WEEKS. Is there any info on the long term effects????

My daughter was told to be put on solodyn (65mg)as of today. She has a very very slight case of acne. We were just going in for a facial wash if that. After reading all the bad side effects of this, there is NO way I will put her on this medication. There is hardly anything on her face to begin with and for our Dermo to put her on such a messed up medicine, No Thanks. So I want to thank all of...

I've had moderate acne on my face and back since puberty (about 15 years). OTC creams and cleansers have helped in the past, but never really eliminated my acne. I finally decided to see a dermatologist and was prescribed Solodyn 80mg. Within a couple of weeks I started seeing a major reduction in the number and severity of pimples. It has now been 4 months and my acne is practically non-existent. The only side effect that I have ever experienced is a somewhat mild itchiness on my face if I start to get hot and sweat, which goes away when I cool down. But, that could also be completely unrelated to the pill. I highly recommend this medication!Read More Read Less

My 18yr old daughter has been taking this medication about 5 weeks now. Her face has cleared tremendously! What a difference and her spirits are lifted! It's working great for her so far with NO side effects. I don't know what all these people are talking about with these bad reviews?? Not here!

I've been taking this pill for a couple of months now. When I got it prescribed to me I took it for like 1 week straight then I will miss a couple days and so forth. I'm terrible at taking pills. It did how ever clear up my acne and I felt like I found my holy grail of acne medication. I switch jobs and lost my insurance so I tried to get the pills again they were 500 instead of 35 . So I decide to just take the pills that I had for when I have a bad break out. So weeks went by and I took a pill at the beginning of November. 2 weeks after that I got a terrible itch in my face and neck out of the blue so I pop an Allegra and went to sleep . The next morning it's was unbareable . So after work I went to the er. They said I had contact dermatitis and gave me a medrol pack and told me to keep taking the Allegra . But I don't have allergies. So I did what I was told and the next day at work I was still itch but then by the end of my shift I had difficulty swallowing and my neck got stiff so I went back to the er and they said its allergies . So the next day I went to work and I started to get bumps on my hands and they ache so bad it was painful to open a bottle of water . When I got home I seen I had a small group of hives on my arm and leg but no itch so I thought to my self am I allergic to my new job? So I continued my meds and the next day which was Saturday I went to work my hand broke out again I was itching everywhere at the end of my shift I started together chills and very tired and all my joints got stiff and I couldn't swallow again.I could barley drive my self home . The next day was Sunday I was off I stayed in bed all say I could move what so ever and I was itching like crazy I became light headed I couldn't move to fast because I became dizzy. So I just decided to rest that whole day. Monday came around and I decided to clean my area with bleach because I thought it was something I am touching . And I wore gloves through out my shift I got extremely Read More Read Less

My daughter took this med for almost a yr. From the start she felt very tired and complained of a sore throat and joint pain. Many strep and mono tests later her joints swelled and her eyes became extremely bloodshot. Bewildered Drs. ran test after test and sent her to infectious disease and rheumatology specialists. Finally I read this website and she stopped taking Solodyn and within a week all symptoms cleared and her rheumatologist agreed she experienced drug-induced lupus. Buyer beware!!

I've been taking this medication for 2 months now and like everyone else the side effects were horrible but eventually wore off. I've still gotten breakouts while on this medication so I can't say it was worth it.

After reading these reviews I wished that I read them earlier. I thought it was just me. My joints hurt, my legs were tingling and going numb, my body just felt weird. I felt light headed, having headaches and feeling like I was having tunnel vision. I stopped the drug and four days later feel way better then the days that past. Guess I'm gonna have to change my diet cause it is just not worth it.

My dermatologist put me on Soloydon over a year ago. At first I thought this was great as my acne cleared up. I am a teacher and have always had a hectic schedule and considered myself very active but lately I can hardly go, I'm in bed by 8pm, after a full night sleep I still can hardly go, My hair is falling out by the handfuls, I find myself dazed and confused, I hurt all over and I've had sores in my mouth. I went to the dermatologist and told her that I am concerned that it is the medicine, it has to be this as this is the only medication I take. I was surprised when she said that she had not heard of these side effects and solodyn and wants to check me for lupus. I have read over the comments on this site and it seems like a lot of the people have the same side effects that I do. I am quitting this medication. Does anyone know how long it will take to get out of my system? I think we have to take control of our own health sometimes as Doctors do not always know the side effects of the medicines that they are giving out.....Read More Read Less

Not clear yet, but I think it's working. I was originally covered-literally, face, scalp, back, chest, butt, and legs in cystic acne. Started solodyn a few days ago and had the initial breakout from it already, derm said it was pulling all the junk out of my skin. No new breakouts now. Face is clear, back is healing, so is chest, chest no longer looks like boils on it, butt looks human again and is healing-it was so bad it hurt to even sit, so I'm healing and that makes me happy. Legs stopped breaking out and are healing too. So besides the initial breakout I would say that I had no other side affects and this medication is working. Amazing considering 3 rounds of accutane didn't do a thing. I'm also using mupiracin on open wounds. I think in 2 more weeks the body acne will be gone. No complaints here.Read More Read Less

My daughter who is now 14 took this medication last year for horrible cystic acne on her forehead. It cleared up very fast and she experienced NO side effects. She took the drug for six months straight, has been off of it for six months and hasn't had any problems since. I would highly recommend this drug. The only problem was the cost was $800 per month (YIKES!!) with our insurance (Anthem BC/BS) not covering it...so we had to get it directly from the manufacturer. They were very nice and sent us a lot of free month's worth of the drug. Read More Read Less

At 50+, I still get times of cystic acne. This med works very very well. No side effects and good results. To the 19-20 year old who said "don't take this drug"...in all caps...oh please! Ignore her drama. Every person can react differently. If your doctor prescribes it, it is definitely worth trying.

I was diagnosed with adult onset acne (I am 49) and took Solodyn for 2 months. It took a few weeks and my face cleared completely. In the meantime, my scarring from the acne was a dark brown, when I usually have pink scarring and then goes away. In the meantime, the same doctor tried removing sun spots with no luck. they scarred a brown color lighter than they were, but did not come off and she was surprised. She said they usually do, and we had done a test of some spots on my hands (before the Solodyn) with success in removing them completely. I also had stomach issues (gurgling, severe bloating and pain). I gained 7-10 lbs in these 2 months (and I rarely gain weight). I have been off the medicine for a week and my weight is still high and I am very dizzy at times. The bloating has lessened, but not gone. After reading all of these reviews, I would not take Solodyn again. Read More Read Less

I've been on Solodyn for a few months now. We kicked up my dosage from 80 to 150 mg but my chin continues to break out. I also have some sort of irritation on my scalp that my derm. said Solodyn would help and it has not. At first, it did help keep breakouts at bay, but lately my problem areas are persisting.

I have been taking Solodyn 115mg for the past 3 weeks due to cystic breakouts surrounded by smaller pimples. I have to say that reading the reviews Im a little shocked. I never got hives or itching..sometimes I think its all in these poeples heads... my cystic pimples/breakouts have subsided and in the last day I had a small flare up with a little group of pimples but nothing I cant cover up. I really think that in the next 3 weeks Ill continue to see improvement and for me that is exciting. Read More Read Less

My 20 yr old daughter was suffering from cystic type acne. She has been taking it plus a day and night cream for her face for 3 weeks. she has begun to be very itchy, developing whelps on her skin, nauseated, and general fatigue. Dermatologist said " no this cant be from the solodyn but this is the only difference in her routine. The doctor is now saying keep taking the meds and I will put you on some steroids to clear rash. after reading other reviews I am taking her off this medication. we will see our regular doctor on Monday!Read More Read Less
