I have been on this birth control for over 2 years now and I love it. The worst part about it is that I get really moody the week before my cycle. As I was reading other reviews I noticed a lot of people saying that they've been on it for 5 weeks two 2 months and keep bleeding. That is normal, I had the same problem at first, I pretty much bled for two months strait so called my doctor. She said t...

I gave Jolessa 6 months of my time and I hate it. Hate. I was taking Sprintec  (orthotrycyclin lo) for about 8 years prior to that and loved it with the exception of the hormonal migraine I would get the day before starting. I switched to this first the purpose of only getting 4 periods a year, hence 4 migraines a year. Jolessa has indeed helped my headaches,  but the bad definitely outweighs th...

I just finished my first month on Jolessa. I had no spotting. I switched from orthocyclen because of pelvic pain and repeated UTIs and yeast infections. This has not gotten better and the pain is worse but I'm not sure if it has to do with this birth control. I did get acne, but nothing terrible. No mood swings. I have noticed an increase in appetite, I see why many women gain weight on this pill.

Three days after starting Jolessa, I had lower abdominal pain that lasted for over a week. I broke out in a rash like acne that covered my face, chest, back, and arms. After almost 3 weeks, I called it quits and went off this pill.

I have been taking this BC for two weeks and it's been absolutely miserable. When I took my first pill, I woke up the next morning, and had to call into work to stay home because I was so nauseous. I take my pills every evening, and the nausea sticks around until about noon the next day, if not longer. I've also experienced migraines for the past week, it has affected my sleep (I haven't been able to wake up easily in the morning and I have been sleeping for 11+ hours at night), and I have been "spotting" the entire two weeks I've been on it. It has also made me break out very badly on my face, and I think it even made my nose ring infected because of how oily my face is. Lastly, it has made me feel horribly depressed. After reading all these reviews, I'm stopping this drug immediately. This isn't what birth control is supposed to do. I have taken a few different kinds for the past three years and nothing has made me feel this bad. Read More Read Less

I took this for a week before giving up. My acne flared up and I couldn't sleep at night. The part I could not deal with was being nauseous every single day for the majority of the day. I missed work because I felt so sick from taking these pills and to me it was not wort it when I have been on several other bc pills that have not ever made me feel sick like this.

I started taking Jolessa because my doctor told me that is completely normal and okay for a woman to not have her period every month. This idea sounded wonderful to me. I have had issues with spotting/bleeding twice (I have been on the drug for 7 months). At one point I bled for almost an entire month! What concerns me even more at this point, and why I have decided to try a different medication is that I have been losing my hair for around 6 weeks now. I have a stressful career, and I will admit that there has been some stress in my home life. I recently had blood work done to rule out any vitamin/thyroid/auto-immune issues. Everything came back normal. So I figured that it is the stress in my life that needs controlling. While doing research, I came across an article that states that this drug could be a cause of hair loss. I also read another woman's rating on Jolessa and she mentioned that her hair was thinning tremendously. If anyone knows anything about hair loss in combination of this drug, I would sincerely appreciate feedback. In addition, today I switched to Kelnor, a type of BC that will allow me to go back to having monthly periods. If anyone has tried or knows about Kelnor, again I would be very appreciative of feedback. Thank you, and good luck to all of us that are just trying to be responsible, and in conjunction live normal lives. :-)Read More Read Less

After having to switch pills because Loestrin 24FE was taken off the market, I was given Jolessa. I read all the reviews and was hesitant to take it but had no other option at the time. After 1 week of taking it, I experienced HORRIBLE mood swings and feelings of depression constantly. I was nauseous daily, mainly in the evening. I stopped taking it a few days ago and already feel better. My suggestion - DO NOT take this pill unless you want to feel crappy all the time!

I've been on Jolessa for a couple years. Before Jolessa I was on the depo shot, I have had no problems with Jolessa besides forgetting to take it. My periods are light and usually only last for 2 days.

I have been taking Jolessa since 2009. I have not had a period (more than an hour or two of light spotting), in those four years. EXCEPT, when for a three month period, I tried Quasense, as Jolessa was on extended back order. I bled for three months straight with Quasense.

I started taking this pill to control excessive bleeding that had been going on for about a month. My doctor said this would work, and that I would only have a period once every 3 months. I was excited to only have a period once every 3 months, and have it be more 'regularl'. Well I was good to go on my first pack, light spotting here and there, but nothing too serious and no other obvious side effects. But as soon as I switched to my second pack I began to bleed heavily, with painful cramps. It's been 5 days now since the bleeding began and it is only getting worse. I also have many new problems with my body that I'm not sure I'd have if off these pills, but after reading other reviews I realize some of my symptoms may be attributed to this pill. I'm going to see the dr. today to see if I can get switched to something different. Either way, I won't be taking anymore of these pills.Read More Read Less

I have only taken Jolessa for 8 days, as of today, after taking Seasonique for 5+ years satisfactorily. My only complaint about Seasonique was the cost even with insurance and with the new health care act that fully covers certain birth control now, I was simply looking for a less expensive, yet just as effective option. ($0 versus $150/3mos. is quite a difference!) However, I seem to be having some side effects (nausea, worsening & daily headaches, sleep disruption) that I'm not sure are related to the change to Jolessa or if I'm still recovering from whatever bug I had a couple of weeks ago. I also feel like I have a lump in my throat (a full feeling). The nausea makes it hard to determine whether I'm hungry or just nauseous. Since I am prone to migraines and had recently had my period, on top of a 100.2 degree fever for a couple of days, that included body aches and nausea and having to take a lot of Advil, I'm unsure whether I'm having rebound headaches and nausea caused from the Advil, or if it's actually the Jolessa. I will call my doctor, of course, if the symptoms do not go away soon (not sure how long to give it?) It would definitely be more cost effective to keep taking it, but I feel pretty miserable and might have to go back to Seasonique, which gave me no problems aside from having my period at unexpected times, which was minor compared to how I am feeling on a daily basis. I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced the nausea, worsening headaches, etc. when switching from Seasonique to Jolessa or when beginning Jolessa, in general. I tend to be very sensitive to medication as it is, and I'm pretty good at trusting my gut, but any feedback would be appreciated.Read More Read Less

I've gone through almost of year of Hell on this BC. Thought is was supposed to make my symptons better, not worse. Severe cramping and stomach issues all the time. Also spotting, nausea, heartburn, hot flashes, severe mood changes, skin issues, vaginal discharge, migranes, the list goes on. Been to the Gyno and Dr. on a monthly basis. Told to stick with it. Well, after almost a year, the gyno can stick it you know where.

Love this birth control. Switched to this birth control 5 years ago after having trouble with another and this one has been life changing. I experienced spotting the first few cycles I took Jolessa as my body needed time to adapt but ever since then I have experienced lighter periods only 4 times a year! I feel great and it has actually improved my quality of life...I can't imagine having a period every month!

I have been on this BC for 2-3 years. I LOVE only having 4 periods a year. Jolessa has reduced my menstral migraines, and no spotting/between periods (unless I miss a week of pills-Oops). Has beed effective when I miss AND double up doses -(however not recommended)

I was happy to start Jolessa due to the fact that I would only have 4 periods a year. I took it for 9 months and never had a problem with spotting or weight gain, but I had severe acne and was an emotional wreck. I would go from angry to crying in no time. I have always been a very laid back person, I am going to switch medications asap!

If you would have asked me the first 5 weeks taking it, you would have a completely different review. At first it was a miracle, as I was taking it due to very heavy periods, hormone related migraines and horrible PMS. Although I did gain 10 pounds almost immediately (I eat right and exercise daily, this is the only change I've made), the first few weeks I had no other side effects except for a little bit of spotting. Fast forward a couple of months, and I'm on my 50th day straight of bleeding! I can't believe I'm actually still taking this pill and I won't be after today! My doctor encouraged me to finish the 90 day cycle of pills, saying it typically takes a cycle for the body to adapt to the pills. It's clear now that my body will not adapt. It breaks my heart because the migraines are gone and I'm not as cranky and evil with PMS, but at some point in EVERY day I go thru a period of blood clots and gushing blood. I never know at what point in the day this will happen, of course, so I have to wear tampons and pads 24/7 just in case. I hate the thought of the nasty migraines and PMS coming back, but I'm going to have to try something else. 50 days straight of bleeding is not worth it!Read More Read Less

I knew what to expect after reading thru the info packet with these pills. I am on week 10. I had break-thru bleeding after 6 weeks of use; this lasted 10 days, and I only had to use one liner per day. I have had a bit of darker discharge on occasion, and my facial acne has acted up a tiny bit. I am expecting this to calm down as in the past I had perfectly clear skin when on the pill. I am taking this to reduce the number of periods I get, and so far I have had 1 normal period (lasting 3 days) and the aforementioned spotting. That is it! My moods have been better, PMS and PMDD symptoms all but gone. It is true that you should take it at the same time every day; I tend to notice the darker discharge if I switch up the time I take the pill. Also, I missed a day somewhere along the third week; there is a warning that you will have more breakthrough bleeding if this happens. I have gained about 5 pounds, but this is worth it to not go thru menstrual products like crazy!Read More Read Less
