This medication does work, but for the first month or so you have dark brown soptting between periods. Sometimes you get vaginal discomfort and nasusa and/or headache once in a while when using this medication. I think this form for birth control is good and very easy to take. The pills are pink the first 21 pills. The 7 other pills are white and contain estorgen hormones when you are not on your ...

I just started on this pill last Thursday and it's Monday. My doctor switched me because Loestrin24 was too low hormone for me and I was having 2 periods a month for the first time in my life. I used to be on .25 mcg of estrogen before Loestrin and that seemed to work well. I'm now on Balziva and it's .35 mcg of estrogen, which I hope is not too high for me. I will see. The reason I'm posting is...

My doctor prescribed Ovcon-35 (Balziva is the generic) to treat very heavy, long periods. My periods were lasting 10-12 days and I was bleeding through a tampon ever 2-3 hours. Balziva did cause me to stop having periods altogether which was a relief. HOWEVER, within just a few months of taking it, I'd gained 15 pounds. I was an emotional wreck. I'd cry when I got stuck in traffic and was late to work. I'd cry when my dog peed on the carpet. I'd cry when the chicken came out too dry. I even cried when the employee at my bank told me I needed one extra document to change the name on my debit card after I got married. And to top it off I was ALWAYS tired and my sex drive totally plummeted. Finally, after about two years of taking it, I started to have occasional, sharp chest pains and really weird, unusual headaches at the base of the back of my head. They were causing me to be light headed and dizzy. During a routine checkup, my blood pressure was a little high (130/85) for someone my age (25), who works out 6 times every week. Over the next two months it began to rise until it was at 155/100 and my doctor took me off Balziva because she was worried the high dose of estrogen was going to cause a stroke. Its been 2 months and my blood pressure has come down considerably but I still haven't started a period. I don't know what's going to happen when my husband and I try to get pregnant. I absolutely do not recommend this drug to anyone. Read More Read Less

I have endometriosis, my symptoms are severe cramps, vomiting, nausea for three to four days to the point of not being able to function, diarrhea, migraine, fever and heavy bleeding. I basically have to take the week off from my life once a month. I took Balziva for three years and I would have light cramps, small headache and my period was just spotting. I would have a bad period every 4-5 months. Eventually it stopped being effective in controlling my endometriosis and I am trying a generic for Seasonique. These past three years have been the best time of my life. I forgot I had endometriosis. I hope I can eventually take Balziva again.Read More Read Less

I started taking Ovcon (Balziva generic) for lack of menstrual cycle (28 y.o. and never ever had a period), extra hair growth, abnormal hormone/thyroid levels, and birth control factor. I did the quick start method (where you start on any given day.), this was decided by the doctor seeing as how I'd never in my life had a period, I couldn't wait around for a Sunday start. I was told to take 2 weeks of pills before engaging in any unprotected excursions because we had no idea where in my cycle my body was. I've been taking it for 4 months now. After 4 months I can say that my body has adjusted pretty well to these meds. The first 3 months I suffered with very tender breasts, headaches, breakthrough bleeding, bloating, and nausea, but month 4 has been a breeze. Give your body time to adjust to the meds, especially if birth control is new to you, eventually all of the side effects will go away, just wait it out! It has worked wonders for me! I actually have a cycle now and they're extremely regular. It only takes 2 placebo pills for me to start and lasts about 5 days. I've been told over time it will lessen and may even actually skip a few. So, word of advice, give Balziva at least 4 months before you decide to try something different. It WILL take that long for your body to adjust to it! I'm pleased.Read More Read Less

I started taking Balziva because my periods were crazy. They would come every other week and last for three days. So far, they really haven't improved much. I haven't had any side effects, which is GREAT. I just don't think that the hormone dose is strong enough for me personally to hold off my periods. I have only been on it for a few months, but my periods come early, usually at the beginning of the 3rd week of the pack and I will bleed (sometimes heavily) all the way through the sugar pills and have a 2 week long period. I just want to find something that works. I think Balziva is worth a shot. It doesn't personally work for me, but that doesn't mean it won't work for someone else.Read More Read Less

I started taking this medication because I was experiencing very long periods... 3 months long.. started this drug and boom, periods were back on track... However, 6 weeks into taking medication I wanted to kill the entire world.. I had no sex drive, was always tired and depressed... I would rather bleed for 3 months straight than feel like that again... stopped taking the pill 2 weeks ago, and finally feeling back to normal... bad experience for me... wish you all better luck!

I had very painful periods which caused severe pain before I started taking this pill. My periods would be very heavy at times and would last anywhere from a half a day to two and a half days. On Balziva, I have no pain whatsoever, and my periods are extremely light (light enough for panty liners), lasting only 1 day. I do not have any mood swings, and my high sex drive is greater than ever.

I started this medicine about 3 months ago. This is the first birth control pill I have had success with. I formed clots with the other three I tried, so because I am able to stay on this one so far, it's a big plus for me. However, I have noticed I am moodier than I was before, and I feel bloated, but overall, having my periods go from 9 days to 4, and from extremely heavy to extremely light, this has helped me a lot. Also, I have not bad cramps since I started. My endometriosis used to keep me in bed for days, but now I can lead a more normal life.Read More Read Less

I was on Ocella for years, (generic for Yaz) and loved it. My periods have been getting worse since entering my mind twenties so my doctor put me on Balziva, telling me that switching up would help with painful periods. It has been awful. I gained about 8 pounds (I have a small frame so it might as well be 15) I am a very healthy eater and go to the gym about 4-5 times a week and haven't been able to lose the weight at all. I developed horrible depression and mood swings, and I lost my sex drive. That being said, I am going back on Ocella. I do believe that it really depends on the person for the birth control but it just was not right for me. Read More Read Less

I was on this pill for over a year, and it was the worst year of my life. I had severe mood changes to the point that I was clinically depressed and suicidal. I gained about 30 pounds and looked swollen or bloated all the time. My boobs went from B's to DD's, which may sound good, but I outgrew all my clothes and experienced severe back pain because of them. I got headaches all the time and was tired 24/7. It took me a very long time to figure out that the pill was the cause of all of these symptoms, but as soon as I stopped taking it, within two weeks I felt completely normal again. I am also not the only one who experienced this. My friend was also on Balziva and had the same problems. It wasn't until after she was prescribed antidepressants that she realized that the pill was actually the cause. I very very very strongly caution against taking Balziva. I wasn't myself for over a year and almost ended up taking my own life because of it. There are plenty of other options for birth control that work much better, but if you do decide to take it, please just be careful and be very vigilant in watching out for yourself. No one deserves to feel the way I felt. Read More Read Less

I have been take this pill for 5 months now and I have not experienced any major side effects. It made my skin clear, which I am so happy about because I had aweful cyst like acne. My breasts get really tender around the 3rd week before the week my period is due and as far as my periods, the flow is lighter but I am still bleeding for five days. I don't have any mood swings, nothing out of the norm and my sex drive is even better. This is working for me and this is the first birth control pill I have ever taken.Read More Read Less

I am on this med for hormone inbalance. I was on FEMCON with great results (3 packs from the DR) and was given a rx for OVCON 35..my pharmacy gave me Balziva. OMG!! I've been on this for 9 days and I am ready to kill someone. No joke. I feel like I am in the middle of the worst PMS of my life. My breasts are tender, my moods are horrible. :( Called the pharmacy and they are sending out the brand name OVCON asap..it's going to cost me $30 a month, but my sanity and that of my family is worth every penny. I suggest you think long and hard about taking this med..I know everyone is different, but this did not work for me. I read the reviews and was sure I wasn't going to have any issues....well, here I am on day 9 and I'm ready to blow my top..for no reason..at all. My kids and dh noticed a difference right away and asked if I was PMSing..I'm not..my period is 10 days away. Read More Read Less

I've been on Balziva for about 2 years now. I've been mostly satisfied with it. Before my periods were irregular and very painful. I also had problems with acne. They are now very regular and have shortened to 2 or 3 days a period. The cramps haven't subsided much, but I can tell a little difference, but my acne is just as problematic. I have frequent mood swings and anxiety which I didn't have before, but I haven't had any of the problems with hair growth, thank goodness! Overall, I'm satisfied, but I'm sure there is better out there.Read More Read Less

I was put on this BC after having to have 2 large cysts and scar tissue removed from both ovaries. I have spotted or more, every single day I have been using this, I have extreme episodes of depression and my ability to handle frustrating situations has lessened. It has literally been epic PMS every single day. I haven't had my check up ultrasound for the cysts so I can't comment on that yet, but this has been an awful experience and I am hoping when I go back to my GYN, there will be an alternative. I began taking this drug about two years ago; I had heavy periods and bad cramping. Taking birth control has helped with the cramping and has been 100% effective. I'm not pregnant yet lol...the only problem I have is remembering to take the medicine but I haven't had any of them other problems that I'm seeing people have been saying they have. Just like with any medicine it will effect everyone differently. But I would recommend giving it a try to see if it works for you.
