I've been on VyVanse (60mg) for 5 months now. I have been able to compare the medication in 2 different scenarios during this time. For 4 of the months, I was working 40 hours a week landscaping. Prior to the meds, I had constant racing thoughts and never seemed to be able to focus on something long enough to finish it. I switched from Adderall to Vyvanse 2 months ago. I took 20mg 2xday Adderall for 11 years. I was unable to get much more than 6 hours of efficacy from the 40mg total. I now take 60 mg Vyvanse 1 per day in the AM. I love the 1x dosing. Vyvanse gives me a good 12 hours of ADHD symptom relief. Vyvanse does not work as well as Adderall but well enough to keep me happy. The trade off of a little less effectiveness for 2 times longer relief is well worth it ... for me. Some people love Adderall, others hate it. Same for Vyvanse. I tried Strattera for a month. It raised my BP, nothing more. I hated Strattera. Yet I know a few people who swear by it. Moral to my story: The only way you can determine with certainty how you'll react to a particular medication is to try it under your doctor's direction.Read More Read Less

I have been on over one dozen medications throughout the last 20 years for ADD/MDD and it has only been Vyvanse that, at last, secured a permanent difference. Second, I would say that only Dexedrine was anywhere near as helpful.

3 blood pressure medications well control otherwise high blood pressure, but sedative side effects nearly unbearable. 40 mg. Vyvance acts as perfect counter agent.

The meds stopped the racing thoughts and seemed to "zone me in" on the task at hand. That was fine when I was working and physically exhausted at the end of the day. Now I am back in school. My class schedule ranges from 9am-7pm some days and doing extra work until midnight or later. I wake up around 8am and take the medication, but feel that it looses its "zoning" effect by 3 or 4pm. I feel like I am gradually building a tolerance to it (I also have a history of drug addiction, mainly thc and xanax though). At this point in time, the meds peak then wear off while I still have half of my day to finish out. I am now experiencing insomnia (I'm writing this at 4am). There are days that I don't take a dose and the effect usually ends up in extreme exhaustion. I didn't take it over the weekend and sleep from Sat. noon until Monday 9am - waking occasionally to have a meal. I don't know if it's due to the fact that I am no longer working a physically exhausting job that would put me to sleep at 1030pm every night, but the insomnia is starting to interfere with my daily routine. I am seeing a doctor tomorrow to see if he will put me on adderall 10mg 3x daily, or 20mg 2x daily. I would much rather peak and crash throughout the day at my own descretion, knowing that I can get a good night's rest.Read More Read Less

The concept of the drug was interesting, it becomes a stimulant only after oral ingestion. Thinking it would work well, stop the "LOOK" at my pharmacy, and be useful were soon found to be false for my system. It felt like ritalin XR, kept me awake but not helping th ADD.
