I recently started having night-time driness causing my eyes to stick to my eyelids in the morning, in addition to mild symptoms during the day. First, I tried house brand "compare to Systane Ultra" drops, but they didn't seem to do much of anything at all. BTW, other than having the same "active" ingredients, they were NOT the same as Systane Ultra. Then I tried actual Systane Balance, and at first it seemed to soothe the driness for a little while, but then my eyes would be more irritated afterward. At nighttime, my eyes were sticking less tightly but were still sticking in the morning. Next I bought a package of Soothe XP and a box of Retaine MGD. I haven't tried the Retaine MGD because the Soothe XP is working for me. The Soothe XP has the same preservative as the Systane products, and the first few times that I used it, I noticed a slight irritation about 10 minutes after instillation, but it passed. The first few times I used it, my eyes did not stick (yay!). The did feel dry as in the tear film felt thick, but there was no irritation, friction, abrasion, foreign body sensation, pain, or any of the rest, and after a few minutes of blinking and rubbing the crud out of my eyes, my eyes were more or less normal. Now I use the Soothe XP every night, whether I think I need it or not. I have had no recurrence of sticking eyes, no more irritation from the preservative, and I'm very happy. BTW, I have not had my dry eyes diagnosed, but I've had them off and on for decades. I was unable to tolerate wearing contact lenses in the 1980's because of dry eyes, and back then I was placing drops every 20 minutes all day. I suspect my dry eyes are evaporative in nature.Read More Read Less
