I was recently given tegretol as a mood stabilizer for bipolar. I’m taking 100mg in the morning and 100mg in the evening. I’m also taking 20mg of adderall RX in the morning. Ever since I started to take the tegretol I feel very fatigued. I find myself fighting to stay awake about 45 minutes after taking tegretol and at times I end up taking a 30 to 45 min cat nap after taking it in the morning. Although it has be a very short time taking this medication I’m hoping this does not lead to long term side affects with the fatigue and drowsiness. I would of thought the adderall would of counter acted any of the sedation affects of tegretol but so far it has no affect at all Over all I do feel much better taking tegretol but hate these two side affects I’m currently experiencing. . UPDATE..Been on tegretol since jan. Great relief, however I have a sinus infection and its like I'm not even taking the drug! Definatly going to look into the gamma knife sugery.

I have been able to get back some of my normal activites that use to do. but i have noticed that im losing my memory more and more daily...

i have been on this medication for 6months and i had sideaffects like breakout because of hot sun.and also itching allover my body.another thing is having really bad headach.but one thing it is very good in treating my seizures.

I have Trijeminal Neuralgia. About day 7 on this drug, it took my pain from a 12 on the 0-10 scale to about a 2-3. I am still havin some pain in the evening and early morning, but this is much better. I feel dizzy all the time. I am so lethargic now it is unreal. I dont want to do a thing at night. Likewise, I have had a 10 lb wweight gain in the last 10 days.

Tegertol has worked for me the last three years but I am tired all the time and a lot of the time I can not keep food down.

I have peripheral neuropathy and this has taken the burning fire from under my skin away. Anything that can do that has my vote! A sideline is that it seems to also help my migraines. I still have them and in the same quantity, but I don't feel I have to go to the ER. They are much more manageable since I have been on Tegretol.

i feel dizzy and do not have good balance after only one week on this drug.

Tegretol Rx used successfully for seizure disorder and to help control mood swings. Taken in conjunction with Zoloft. Have noticed the Tegretol definitely helps lessen my disfluent speech, but I need to take it AFTER eating (Tegretol occasionally causes GI symptoms & lowers my blood sugar more if taken before eating). Also, I have noticed it is VERY IMPORTANT to get enough sleep each night to reduce the chance of having seizures.

Felt very sleepy and off balance with 4/day. My doctor decreased it to 3/day, but now I feel so tired by afternoon. I don't feel like doing anything after I get home from work. This fatigue is new.

Tegretol has been very effective in preventing seizures for me, I take two pills before sleeping and am able to wake up rested in the morning. I don't care to take it during the day, it makes me feel dizzy and unable to function well.

Very good! I have been on it for 23 years and it has helped me so much!

tmj disorder

I started Tegretol 3 weeks ago and after 5 days of increasing my dose I found relief from my pain. Today I have had some bleed through pain, but it was nothing compared to what I was going through without this drug. So far so good.

I take this drug to treat bipolar disorder. I do have memory problems on it but otherwise it is well tolerated.

I have been prescribed Tegretol as in Retard since a child for Epilpsy, Teenage yrs depression mental disorder etc.. It has long controlled my condition of vits vomit when child, but Psy DR now keeps increaing the doses to over 400 mg 200 each used to be 100, I always believe it caused Tiredness Fatigue in my late teens still in adult yrs now I'm 30 addicted to it or would collopes not taking it. I reduce the dose to 100 taken only at night to sleep can't sleep without it taken with Kalms herbs. For those of you suffering Fatigue hard to wake up I could not survive if I never found Supplement in big red writting FRelieves Tiredness Naturally called YARIBA Red Box 50 tabs wakens me up right away fully I recommend it to anyone who's drugs causes sleepyiness. 1st came ot in 1990 when I was 17 to Superdrug no longer sell it nor Boots, only least Holland & Barretts & other main town Health food shops stock it. At this time any relief has been welcomed. Still have break troughs but tolerable for now.

I was on tegretol for 3 weeks for trigeminal neuralgia. It was working very well to relieve the pain. But then I developed a nasty rash, first around my knees, then up my legs, arms, neck and face. Dr. had me stop taking tegretol immediately, saying that the rash could be life-threatening. I was broken-hearted to go off tegretol because it provided the first relief from pain that I'd had in years. I'm on gabapentin now, but it just does not relieve pain well, and I'm gaining weight despite daily exercise and a lowfat diet (7 pounds in 8 weeks.)Read More Read Less

Tegretol has kept me seizure-free for over 20 years, with no side effects. I just switched to XR a year ago. To the person who posted "I actually passed the pill in my stool after 12 hours for a 24 hr extended release": What you passed in your stool after 12 hours was the shell/casing, not the pill itself. And each pill lasts 12 hours, not 24. That is why you take it twice a day instead of once. Hope this helps someone with the same concerns. :-)
