I've been on Tegretol for 18 yrs. For seizures, been seizure free for that lenght of time. After reading reviews, maybe Tegretol is what causes me to be tired alot of the time. I have trouble with memory and recalling words in conversation with people.

I was given Tegretol after having several mild seizures and after just one week of taking the drug I had my first grand mal seizure. In the space of the 2 months I was on the drug I had 4 grand mal seizures, 15 fitting seizures, 8 stiffness seizures and my absences increased to multiple times an hour. After this my neurologist changed my prescription to Keppra and after some experimenting with dos...

I'm a 46 yr old bi-polar male who has taken tegretol for mood swings since I was 19 yrs old. The medicine works great with stabilizing my moods and the only problem I have is when I had either ran out of it or stopped taking it and had to go through withdrawls. This medicine took over having to take lithium.

Tegretol seems to help me identify my depression from periods when I'm manic; this helps because knowing what mode I'm in, I can treat the symptoms of depression like not being too hard on myself, knowing my limitations, accepting them, be kind to myself, make sure that I eat. When I realize that I'm manic, I treat the symptoms by taking a walk to release increased energy & journaling to purge myself of racy thoughts. I still cycle about every 2 weeks, and I have terrible problems with irritablity & anger management. Whether manic or depressed, its all about self-care. Before taking tegretol, I was in a state of constant chaios because I didn't understand what was happening with my mind. I thought I was either going crazy or just being carefree; I couldn't understand why I couldn't keep a job and such. The only side effect I feel I have is fatigue. Tegretol does not do alot to control my manic-deppresive episodes; there are times I feel like I could crawl out of my skin, my head reels, and things seem so surreal or I get so depressed that I don't get out of bed for a couple of days feeling catatonic. Like I stated before, the tegretol does help me identify my mood swings somewhat and that helps.Read More Read Less

This drug gave me dizziness, vertigo, did not stop any pain, and I actually passed the pill in my stool after 12 hours for a 24 hr extended release. Worthless after metal TMJ implant surgery.

I started taking this in the hospital when I was diagnosed with GBS. I tried Neurontin but that did not work. In contrast this really help with what I described as "the buzzing" in my body.

I've been on Tegretol for 21 years. The past few years things have been getting worse for me. I'm required to have a bone density test done every year due to me getting close to Osteoporsis. It eats Calicum which causes a big effect on my bones. I'm in my late twenties and my doctor says I have bones of a much older person. My doctors were stunned when they saw this. I went to two doctors to review it and get a second opinion.

Nausea and vomiting increased leg pain, pain in hands and elbows. I am taking this drug for RSDA. And the side effects seem to make this condition worse since joint pain and nerve pain is why it has been prescribed for me. With RSDA you already have depression, muscleweakness, severe joint pain. Also I have seen a increase in Migraine headaces while taking this drug. It has not helped at all at first it seemed to make the symptoms worse. Thank you. I donot recommend this drug for people diagnosed with RSDARead More Read Less
