I've been on Tegretol for 18 yrs. For seizures, been seizure free for that lenght of time. After reading reviews, maybe Tegretol is what causes me to be tired alot of the time. I have trouble with memory and recalling words in conversation with people.

I was given Tegretol after having several mild seizures and after just one week of taking the drug I had my first grand mal seizure. In the space of the 2 months I was on the drug I had 4 grand mal seizures, 15 fitting seizures, 8 stiffness seizures and my absences increased to multiple times an hour. After this my neurologist changed my prescription to Keppra and after some experimenting with dos...

Unfortunately had reaction with low white blood cell counts, and feeling really sick all the time. Had to discontinue. I've also reacted to lots of other meds. Not for the very sensitive.

It 5 days for my body to gain a tolerence for the pill. I stated taking tegretol for TN. It has taken my my pain from a 10 to a 5. When I first started I was very dizzy and nauseous to the point were I could not function. I reduced my dosage and am doing much better. I have also developed a routine when I take it. A piece of bread goes a long way. I am going to try two times a day but the spasms. Are bad and my body tells me when it is time and that is 3 times a day. For those experiencing dizziness and nausea it gets betterRead More Read Less

Been on tegretol/carbamazepine for over 6 yrs for trigeminal neuralgia.First 2 weeks was hard-crazy doc didn't ween me off neurontin first and tried to substitute.WRONG.(Works on different brain chemicals with same results-per pharmacist).Should have ramped down neurontin while ramping up tegretol, so I was in a stupor for about 2 weeks-not in pain, but in a daze until I adjusted. Now it doesn't affect me at all. I take about 1000-1200mg per day.I was stable on 200mg per day for years until recent flare-up. Much nicer drug than Neurontin-that made me listless and in a daze with high dosage and I never adjusted to it. Topamax made me stupid, literally.Had to stop taking, couldn't do simple add/subtract, and forgot names of things(that never got back to baseline-grrrr)Tegretol is the one for me. Old tried and true inexpensive medication.Read More Read Less

At first I though I had a tooth ache but then the pain moved up and down my jaw. My GP was giving me Vicodine to help but it didn’t. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon who quickly diagnosed it as Trigeminal Neuralgia. When I went back to my GP with this diagnosis he started me on Tegretol. After about 48 hours I was mostly pain free and after a few weeks I am pain free. I still feel a twinge in my jaw and I can’t even think of drinking anything cold, but I can sleep and work.

I am on 600mg am and pm. It has helped me feel more balanced and calmed down for sure. I do note facial and finger numbness and forgetfulness/confused quite a bit more than I ever was. I have not been any more tired or fatigued, and no weight gain. Overall I am happy with this medication. I also take Concertta, and Effexor XR with no probs.

My husband is feeling very sick, upset stomach, nausea, and profuse sweating that comes and goes. He has been on the mew med 3 days. Mood wise he feels much better But..... Psychiatrist had him stop all other meds and start this one. Those meds were Cymbalta 90mg tid, hydroxyzine 25mg bid, and clonazapam 2mg tid. No weaning off of them! Could he be going through withdrawals? Or is this a possible side effect?

Other than the "normal" side effects of all seizure meds, comparitivlely speaking, this has had few for me. I was having 4-6 seizures perday, & upon starting Tegretol, they immediadetly stopped. Just like that. At that time, & now, it seems to my 'miracle drug'. The headaches I can live with, the seizeres I cannot.

Tegretol at first was working; then to quote and unquote an old saying "all the hell broke lose" would be best to imply it, not only side effects manifested, lapsed also into "Code Blue" in early 1980s, marked and noted as "allergy". Then was reintroduced back to it again (?) in spite of the allergy warnings from years earlier, in the 1990's; just doubled it up where Tegretol was moved up with Red Alert Warning in allergic reactions, not just side-effects. Did absolutely nothing to control seizures, in fact, when the titration increased, so did the seizures on the EEG's - both eras.Read More Read Less

Love it! No weight gain. Take Ziprasadone along with it and no problems. I walk every day and maintain a relatively active life style. I do get some muscle aches and have to wear glasses to read up close but that could be also because I am in my 50's and your eyesight doesn't stay 20/20 forever. The main thing I like it about it is it keeps my mood stable and THERE IS NO WEIGHT GAIN.
