I've had extreme fatigue for the last 15 years. It started after I was diagnosed with Mono and it never went away. I would take a nap any chance I got. After work, I would come home and fall asleep. If that was not possible, I would lay around with no energy to do the needed tasks. I negated my duties as a wife and mother and did the minimal amount. It was an extreme sacrifice to do anything ...

Recently diagnosed with Shift Work Disorder. Nuvigil does the job, however, the side effects seem to be very common. Nervousness, dizziness, spaghetti brain, headaches...I've discontinued it for 3 reasons. 1. Most insurances don't cover it and the retail price is approx. $799. The company does give you a prescription card to help with the costs. You can apply through their website 2. Strong side effects. Pre Nuvigil I already suffered migraines and low blood pressure. This aggravated both conditions. 3. Took this 1 hour before the start of my shift (11:30 p.m.) as directed. Problem was I was still WIDE AWAKE at the end of my shift (7:30 a.m.) which means I also had to take sleep aids. After having gone 48 with NO sleep, I decided this medication wasn't for me. The first two days of this medication were amazing; after this, I suffered from massive migraines, dizziness, trouble breathing (chest tightness), heart pounding like it was going to jump out and do circles around me. Needless to say, after only a week, I will be stopping this medication.

I have a medical condition that requires the use of several medications that all have sleepiness and short term memory loss as side effects. Nuvigil eliminates the tiredness and makes me totally mentally alert and focused. Try to keep the dosage as low as possible, otherwise you will not sleep at night.

After using CPAP machine religiously for 8 months, I was still exhausted and my brain was mush ("fog"). After talking to my doctor, I learned I likely had CPAP resistant apnea. Wonderful..........Hooked to a machine every night and still tired all day long. I was prescribed Nuvigil (250 mg). I tried the whole pill a couple of times, but it made me feel more disconnected and anxious. A half of pill makes me feel alert, somewhat more focused, and provides a moderate increase in energy. Although, when I start physical activity (hiking) or projects (yard work), I seem to go for longer periods and have a hard time stopping. Drawbacks for me include: mild headache for about a month, mild nausea at times, mild impulse control issues, and an interesting phenomena of reduced verbal filtering (really say it like it is). Normally, I am a calm, thoughtful, and relaxed person, so my friends are very surprised at some of my off-handed comments (i.e., did he really just say that out loud?) I would not say Nuvigil has radically changed my life, but I would say it has made my life more enjoyable, since my brain is awake to experience the world around me. If you are struggling with apnea, you should explore taking Nuvigil. Read More Read Less

It didn't help me stay awake, caused bad depression and anxiety, couldn't concentrate, and really fogged my brain. My depression and anxiety got so bad that I took myself off. All the other meds I have tried for narcolepsy have caused the same thing so I would rather be sleepy all day than be depressed.

I have been narcoleptic for years (fall asleep during the day). Recently I have the need to drive long distances with my wife and my doctor prescribed nuvigil to help me to avoid sleep episodes while driving. It's godawfully expensive but... it works! I only use it when I need to drive all day with my wife but when I do I don't sleep during the day, have no problems sleeping at night (I don't take it at night), and feel MUCH better. I'd recommend it to anyone with this problem.

i have been taking this drug for quite some time and it does help with the sleepiness during the day. I was falling asleep 10 to 5 times a day and most dangerously while driving. It has helped so much but work with YOUR DOCTOR FOR DOSAGE! i take a 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at noon to get me through the day and still sleep at night. Bad thing is my insurance doesn't pay for it so it is very costly.

It does it's job as far as keeping me awake and alert but the side effects are bad. It causes terrible anxiety and body tingling. It also makes me feel a little dissociated from my surroundings sometimes if I don't take days off from it. The emotional roller coaster is probably the worst thing ever. I can go from really happy to really sad in a matter of minutes. It has nearly destroyed my ability to concentrate and I've noticed my memory is getting bad too.

I should start by saying that I was prescribed Nuvigil for help with depression fatigue. Nuvigil has been a miracle worker for me. I have tried many different cocktails of antidepressants, and while I felt better mentally, I was always exhausted even with 12 hours of sleep a night and a 3 hour mid-day nap. Right now I am taking Cymbalta for depression and 150mg of Nuvigil for fatigue. I am more clear headed, definitely have a great deal of energy without the jitters and I feel like I have my life back. I did have an initial side effect...nausea. It took about a week for the nausea to subside and I'm so glad I stuck it out. No more need for naps, and I have motivation again to do the things I love.Read More Read Less

This Medication has changed my life. I am awake all day long, and my memory has improved. I have not had any side effects from this medication. I have read that Nuvigil could be addicting, I do have to agree with this because if I don't take it every day, I fall asleep. So if being addicted means that I get to have an active Life again, and that I can stay awake when I go see a movie ( after paying $60 for the Family to go) I think I want to be an addict to Nuvigil. So for me personally, I am greatfull for this medication. I am so glad Insurance pays for it, I wouldn't be able to afford it, can you say EXPENSIVE!!!!!! (Thanks to ObamaCare the cost went up over 600%)Read More Read Less

I have been diagnosed with OSA along with some other sleep issues. For instance, I sleep very lightly and if I even snore lightly the sound wakes me up. My legs move from time to time when I sleep as I am still very athletic. OSA also kicks in. I am claustrophobic and get nervous even writing about wearing a mask. CPAP is not an option for me at the moment. The mandibular adjustment device would have helped with the OSA and snoring but I was not a candidate for this for a number of reasons. I am researching the surgery option now. So though I am trying, my OSA remains pretty much no better described than poorly managed. I felt the benefits of Nuvigil within one hour of dosing. I have substantial energy, clear thoughts, great focus, no jitters, and no side effects that anyone else has mentioned. I am 48 years old, very active, need to lose about 20 pounds, have no medical history other than sports injuries and the OSA (oh yeah…gastric reflux). This use of Nuvigil only temporary for me hopefully but I can say that the results of taking this medicine have been nothing short of life altering (for the better). The acuity and energy that I had before developing my sleep issue has been restored. Hopefully I can be there without and medicine in the near future. Read More Read Less

Side effects have been more significant with this drug than any I have ever taken. They include mild nausea, pressure around eyes, dry eyes, and anxiety. Side effects may be due to interactions with omeprazole and/or duloxetine.

Mixed reviews for this med. I was on Provigil for a year, and had to quit due to excruciating headaches--which started near the end of that year and just got worse. Nuvigil also gives me headaches, but not as severe. This may be due to the fact that I'm on a relatively low dose and taking it PRN rather than daily. This decision was made due to the anxiety and impulsive behavior Nuvigil can trigger for me. It is important for everyone to understand that any medication can produce side effects and those--as well as a drug's effectiveness can be different for everyone. What works for one may not work for someone else. I'm not sure about long-term use for this drug for ME, but at this time my doctors believe it is the best choice. Amphetamine was much worse for me, unlike for many on this forum. Everyone is different!Read More Read Less

I have been on Nuvigil 250mg per day for over 2 years. I have Lupus and Narcolepsy and my life was passing me by because all I wanted to do is sleep. I found this med to be extremely helpful. I am able to do everyday stuff now and keep up with my 7yr. old son. I am fortunate that my insurance pays 100% of the cost, however it did require a "hearing" to get approval. Now, they approve it for a year and then re-evaluate the need for it. When I first started taking it I did have an elevated heart rate for a few days and I recall my hands being shaky, but that subsided rather quickly. Not every drug is for every individual. Don't base your decision to take/not take a medication based on a message board. Work with your Doc to figure out what's best for you. Best of luck to everyone in your search for a better quality of life.Read More Read Less
